Whole Foods boycott

"Poor old Whole Foods Market. As if that "Whole Paycheck" joke wasn't mean enough, now there are lots of shoppers who say they won't go there to buy things anymore.

To recap: On Aug. 11, the Wall Street Journal ran an opinion piece by the company's chief executive, John Mackey, in which he spoke against deeper government involvement in the nation's healthcare. mericans, he said, should be responsible for their own health. Like, for example, by eating healthy food (of the kind Whole Foods sells).

"While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction—toward less government control and more individual empowerment," Mackey wrote.

That editorial led to a call for a Whole Foods boycott by a group called (aptly enough) Boycott Whole Foods. It says its membership now stands at more than 20,000."

This guy cut his executive paycheck to a dollar for around two years already and donated his stock dividends to charity.

However....
He dared to question dear leader care and the disciples of the messiah are now out in force to destroy his place of business.

Ouch.

So there's some random boycott of a random company for some petty reason, probably with all of 2 or 3 people participating.

I love how they say that they have 20,000 people participating in the boycott because they have a Facebook group with 20,000 members. :rofl

Why is this breaking news again?

Hell, I "boycott" Whole Foods just because even if there was one in Cheyenne, I couldn't afford to buy anything there.

Boycott campaigns like this are meaningless. Just ask Disney.

It was a quite deliberate attack on whole foods. It was breaking news because it was ..well breaking news as I caught it on CNN. They were interviewing the ranting hippie horde outside. "Why does he have to be against Obama..Why WHy WHY?!!!"

Whole Foods sweats CEO's health care manifesto

"Mackey wrote an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal last week in which he outlined eight reform proposals that "would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone." He also proposed less government control of health care."

The provocative article sparked numerous calls to boycott the retailer and even initiated a dedicated "Boycott Whole Foods" page on Facebook, currently listing more than 13,200 members."

"This has become an instance of who are you going to hate and how are you going to react. You can't do anything to Mackey but you can punish the brand."

"I think it's a pretty extreme reaction to stop shopping at Whole Foods because of it," Aaron said"

"Consumers tend to forget within a few days until the next hot topic comes along," she said.

We will see.

I can agree with you that persecuting this guy and trying to destroy his livelyhood for voicing his opinion is a petty reason. Are you really surprised though?

Just because they have 13,000 members in their Facebook group doesn't mean there are 13,000 people boycotting Whole Foods. They're a bunch of dumb college kids who forward group invites to each other, briefly scan over the group description, and then click the "Join" button. Hell, a lot of them have probably never even heard of Whole Foods, let alone shopped there in the past.

To be perfectly honest I never gave facebook a second thought. It was the ranting crowd outside the NYC Whole foods that drew the cameramen and infobabes like chum in the water .

Maybe Franken and Reid will come out against these people and call them fascists - like they do with the people who disagree with them? "Evil-mongers," maybe?

I may drive 44 miles to the closest Whole foods store just to shop there and show my support.

See how boycotts work?

I have heard support has emerged as well.

Evil will be fought wherever it shows its ugly head eh?

I will as well.
