Talking heads bite Barack Obama - Mike Allen - POLITICO.com

When you’re Barack Obama and you’ve lost Jon Stewart, you’ve got a problem.
“Mr. President,” the “Daily Show” host said Monday night, “I can’t tell if you’re a Jedi — 10 steps ahead of everything — or if this whole health-care thing is kickin’ your [rear.]”
The media made him, and now the media will break him. With no core political, civic, or even moral virtues emanating from his Presidency, the only surprise is that it took this long for the defenestration to begin.

However, the most enjoyable bit of this article has to be the closing paragraphs, rich as they are in irony.
On “The Daily Show,” Stewart went on to deliver a double whammy: He complimented the Bush administration for comparative political acumen, and questioned Obama’s idealism.

“Remember the Bush team?” Stewart said. “Little bit of discipline, little bit of repetition. They sold us a WAR nobody wanted and nobody needed. … Salesmanship! Those guys could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. The Democrats, I don’t even think could sell Eskimos BEEP they need — insulation, heating apparatus. … Yes, we can! [pause] Unless you don’t think we should!”

You obviously don't watch the daily show on a regular basis and are just basing your views of the show off your right-wing radio talking points Celt.

Despite what you want to believe, Jon Stewart often pokes fun at the left as well as the right.

You might try watching sometime. That is...if you can find a sense of humor.

And if you don't recognize that Obama is driving another nail every day into his political coffin, you aren't paying attention.

This guy is polishing up the legacy of Jimmy Carter, if that could be even possible.

Better Jimmy Carter than George W. Bush:doh

I've seen both Stewart and Maher go after Obama now. This doesn't quite rise to the occasion of the media slaying their creation, but it's a sign that there is trouble in paradise. At least to some degree.

Very few Americans base their political perspective on what talking heads like Jon Stewart has to say on a particular issue. He's getting paid to say something stupid for it's comedy value, not necessarily because it's a point of view shared by a majority of Obama supporters.

Given the challenges Obama had to deal with on day 1 it was inevitable that he would lose some of his political capital early in his term, but to start the countdown to his political downfall this early in the game is wishful thinking.

It's no joke: IU study finds The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to be as substantive as network news: IU News Room: Indiana University

I am not certain as to exactly how influential Jon Stewart is, but I have seen more than one study like the IU study that suggests people may give greater credence to the stupid things he says than one might first think. Of a certainty Stewart was a much-talked-about person (and persona) during last year's elections.

Of course it's wishful thinking. Actually, my wishful thinking when he was inaugurated was that he would have done something stupid by now to get his sorry ass impeached, or be found in serious cahoots with Blagojevich, to where he was looking at being Blago's bunk buddy at Joliet.

i'm glad stewart is blasting obama and dems.....they need to be bitch-slapped. it's true, republicans were absolutely the MASTERS of their Domain.......able to sell not just one war, but two wars, along with a deficit and debt that was unprecented and then inherited.

maybe obama et al should start playing the fear card? take page from rove's book?

Stagflation, malaise, hostages in Iran....those were the days, weren't they?

Watch out Lerx. You may get called a fake liberal with no sense of humor ;)

And wow. You know, all this time I've been thinking your new(ish) name started Lexr not Lerx. I've been calling you Lex for ages.

Excellent post...except I disagree regarding playing the fear card. However, the Democrats need to learn a lesson from the GOP. When you have political capital...you have to use it, not peter it away.

Granted, it wasn't great, but when you compare it to the GWB administration it looks like Utopia.
Stagflation and unemployment is preferable to job growth?

Do not worry, Mr. Vicchio will set those folks straight about how big of a hyper partisan liberal I am. ;)

Yeah, lots of people call me Lex, Lerxist, and bigdumbasslex, sexylexy, stuff like that.

job growth? under Bush? Get real.

Oh...that's right, I forget that you are under the mistaken belief that GWB was actually a great President. Oops.

They dont remember Jimmy Carter at all do they?

People that forget history are doomed to repeat it.
