None of that takes away from personal responsibility. The woman in this case is solely responsible for her actions. This is important to remember, because next time it might be some one shouting at a conservative, and we get blamed for it.

I am not going to say that Rush, Beck or Hannity are anything other than assholes. They are. They are also not at fault here.

Lets get real here. Both sides have nutjobs in their base, but its quite obvious that the Republicans right now have a significantly larger number of nutjobs in their base then the Democrats have in their base.

Being you are up there in NYC, I don't think you really have an accurate picture of how extreme many in the Republican base have become. Those New York Republicans, they are anomalies. They are not representative of typical Republican activists in the south and parts of the midwest. The birthers, the deathers, the fundimentalists, that's your party's base right now. So yeah, you can find plenty of examples of extremists in the Democratic base, the types that called Bush a war criminal and protest WTO meetings and the like, but it's not a majority of the Democratic base like the nutjobs are not a majority of the Republican base.

To get an accurate picture of what they base of the Republican Party looks like you need to get out of NYC and go to an Assemblies of God revival down in Tennessee or Arkansas. Talk to those people for a little while about current events. Get to know them, that is the party base. So don't get mad when someone points out the nutjobs in the party, its not like they put them there.

There's got to be a line somewhere, and I'm not saying Beck and Hannity have crossed it yet, when hyperbole turns into dangerous libel. They are definitely pushing the envelope.

People without a college education or a basic understanding of 20th century political history are very susceptible to these images. Maybe they (RW pundits) are just trying to fire people up for the midterms.

But what happens when one of these armed town hall folks really loses his cool. Look at some of the posters on this board--they can't see the problem with slinging an assault rifle over your shoulder and walking around in public.

No, you won't be able to tie a shooting in AZ to Sean Hannity's nightly video montages, unless the shooter is very specific about what inspired him. But why does it have to come to that before some of these far-right folks tone it down.

How many people hang out in Haight-Ashbury versus how many people are you going to find in typical fundamentalist revival? Only a tiny percentage of the Democratic base lives in San Fransisco.

As I wrote, there are nut jobs on the left, no doubt about it, just not nearly as many right now as there are on the right. These Republicans on here from places like the North East don't get just how extreme many Republicans are anymore in places like the south and lower midwest.

Ok, you have to understand that America has f***** up the political lexicon from the past. Hitler is not "middle of road" in the sense of moderate or independent, nor is Nazism or facism. What I'm saying is that many Ivy League educated historians and political scientists cannot classify Nazism or facism as left or right because it has properties of both. Nazi Germany had a government run, centrally-managed economy that Marx would be proud of. Your link said that Hitler did not end capitalism, yet that is not necessarily true. Hitler detested the theory of class-struggle and hated Bolsheviks and Communists. You cannot define Nazism as left or right, but it's not "middle of the road" in terms of American politics. Think outside the American paradigm, Nazism/facism is its own separate entity. And, actually, Nazism and facism are separate in and of themselves.

It doesn't matter who gets free s***, it's the fact the government takes from one, redistributes the wealth, and gives to another. That's a leftist idea, you can't argue that. Just because race is injected, doesn't make it any less of a leftist idea. Plenty of leftists are racists too ya know. Stalin killed almost as many Jews as Hitler did, and Stalin was a leftist Communist radical. Leftists don't usually create paradises of equality and racial harmony, don't kid youself.

There is a Research 2000 poll from about 2 weeks ago that asked if you believe that Obama was born in the United States.

77% of Americans said yes.

Only 42% of Republicans said yes. Where are Republicans mostly concentrated, the South.

They conducted another Poll a few days ago that asked the following question:

Do you think the health care reform plan being considered by President Obama and Congress creates “death panels” which have the authority to subjectively determine whether or not a gravely ill or injured person should receive health care based on their “level of productivity in society”?

43% of Republicans said no. 57% of Republicans said yes or they were unsure about the veracity of the claim. Where are Republicans mostly concentrated? The South.

A full 68% of Republicans reject the scientific explanation of creation.

Again, I am not going to say that those people are anything shy of assholes, but I think we need to keep in mind the concept of personal responsibility. Just because Rush compares liberals to nazi's does not some how make those who act on it less culpable. By focusing on Rush and crew, we are making it easy for conservatives to dismiss what we are saying, because people are responsible for their own actions.

I live in the South, and I see the nuts everywhere. The funny thing is that most people in the South who are Republican, should not be in anyway. The GOP is the party of big business, yet I see dirt-poor Southerners cheering them on. Makes one think they get what they deserve when they stay poor and in the trailor.

Millions marched in hundreds of war protests, with almost no incidents. And that was based on factual evidence that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11

The stuff we are seeing now is largely based on disinformation and people who can't get over the election results.

It's the kind of stuff we used to only see in Jerry Springer shows. It's a little scary that we have so many mentally unstable people that have fallen for all these conspiracy theories.

Tell me, why should a poor person vote for a party that constantly shifts tax burdens onto them and the Middle Class, in order to practice the famously failing "Trickle-Down," economics? Why should a reasonable person in a lower tax bracket vote for a party that is backed by Pharmaceutical companies that wish to keep prescription drugs as costly as possible? Why should the lower classes, many of whom depend on the manufacturing sector, vote for a party that supports sending manufacturing overseas to increase corporate profits? Why would the poor vote for a party that likes to fight wars, when it will certainly be the poor who fights these wars?

Why? Because the party in question plays on their ignorance and tells them if you vote for Democrats they will take away your guns, your bibles, and freedom. Fear tatics, rather than honesty on policies. Where is the intellectual honesty there my friend? Why would the poor not vote for a party that fights to lower their taxes, while shifting the burden onto the top 2% that control 60+% of the capital in this country? Because the GOP scares them away from it with lies and misinformation.
