This is some of the best news I have ever heard. Perry has been a disaster, taxing just about everything that can be taxed, and also attempting to force mothers by law to vaccinate their children for HPV or face criminal charges. This was overturned by the Texas legislature.

But the best part about her running? As she stated today "I don't know what Rick Perry calls the Trans-Texas corridor, but when I take office, I will call it dead."

She has my vote in the Republican primary**. Screw that RINO Rick Perry.

** Unless Kinky Friedman runs.

# Voted YES on recommending Constitutional ban on flag desecration. (Jun 2006)
# Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)

That tells me all I need to know about her. Way too quick to want to amend the constitution. Neither of those issues is worth an amendment to the constitution.

Edited to add: now that I have made it all the way through the "On the issues" page, I don't see her appeal. She is a typical republican, nothing I see stands out.

I agree, it seems that Hutchinson believes she has business in people's personal lives and that she believes everyone should abide by her definition of patriotism.

She is old Conservative, so last season.

Meh, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Slight, very slight, edge...Hutchinson...only because Perry is bat **** insane.

Voted YES on spending international development funds on drug control. (Jul 1996)
Voted YES on increasing penalties for drug offenses. (Nov 1999)

Voted NO on spending $448B of tax cut on education & debt reduction. (Apr 2001)
Voted YES on additional $10.2B for federal education & HHS projects. (Oct 2007)

Voted YES on $40 billion per year for limited Medicare prescription drug benefit. (Jun 2003)

Voted YES on increasing minimum wage to $7.25. (Feb 2007)
Voted NO on raising the minimum wage to $7.25 rather than $6.25. (Mar 2005)

Voted with Republican Party 89.7% of 319 votes. (Sep 2007)
What concerns me.....

I want Ann Richards back

I want Ann Richards back

Ann Richards on How to Be a Good Republican:

"1. You have to believe that the nation's current 8-year prosperity was due to the work of Ronald Reagan and George Bush, but yesterday's gasoline prices are all Clinton's fault.

2. You have to believe that those privileged from birth achieve success all on their own.

3. You have to be against all government programs, but expect Social Security checks on time.”

From what I've seen, I'd vote for her. Seeing how the Dems have goat ****ed everything they've touched since '07, I would bet she has a better than average chance.

huh?

The repubs have had total control of Texas since 2002.

But Hutchinson will likely beat out Goodhair Perry, a slight improvement at best.

Agreed, but I will be voting Dem. I want to live in a blue state and take it back from the crazies. :)

Actually, in Texas, it is the Republicans who have ****ed up everything for years, but that may be about to change. Hutchinson is a bit too authoritarian for my tastes (I would prefer someone more Libertarian), but she would still be much better than Rick Perry, who thinks he is Napoleon.

On this I agree. I will take K. over Dick Perry anyday.

I likely will too, it may sound like a longshot but Texas has been trending back to the dems in the state house and senate the last three elections.

Rick Perry actually raised taxes...or rather tolls. I figure you would agree with that..oh well.

Shows how ignorant you are in terms of my point of view. You see, raising taxes just to raise taxes is stupid.

I just read this gem from Kay Bailey Hutchinson from her announcement speach

I want to help to create an education system like I had."

Hmmmmmmm she went to a segregated whites only school....

Somehow I don't think that is what she meant.

No one raises taxes just to raise taxes, they raise it to get revenue.

I figured she'd get around to throwing her hat in the gubernatorial ring. I'm looking forward to voting for her.
