North Korea: 2 U.S. journalists pardoned

I think their sentences were too harsh but I don't think they deserve a pardon. They knew the risks and willingly broke reasonable N Korean laws.

However, this was never about law and order. This is about politics.
 
Watching their return to the U.S.with B. Clinton right now.

Question is:

When will the far right start painting this as a failure of the Obama administration for not being "Cowboy" enough diplomatically. (wonder what Fox News is saying?);)

I don't know about that but asking what the unpublished price is for this favor may prove interesting. We can be certain that "goodwill" was not the focus.

A cooling of hostilties towards the North's recent nuclear and missile tests. NK just got their ass paddled with sanctions by the UN which was supported by their big brother, China. This move is probably an effort to regain a positive status in the court of public opinion as well as bring the US back to the table to acquire more "freebies-for-broken-promises."

It can also be an attempt to work towards stabilzing the country to prepare for a transfer of power to a new, younger leader.

Well, whatever it is Korea didn't release them for nothing. They are getting something out of it. And since they have been jerking the world around since 1993, I don't think a "positive status" is a practical North Korean goal unless as you state...."freebies-for-broken-promises."

We agreed to something.

I certainly agree. And there is also this bs out there, that Bill went of his own accord and was not sent by the Obama administration. This is obviously bogus, he went over their for the Obama White House with the authority to make some kind of deal with them.

And also I think that this whole thing is pretty messed up. North Korea did not sentence the reporters to death, they gave them the normal punishment for the crime, the same punishment they would have given any Korean. They broke a law, they should have to pay the price.
