Woops. I guess them small government conservatives aren't so small government when in comes to their home states. I suppose they want a socialist state in the US. HAHA. Hilarious.

13 Republicans Voted To Allow Single-Payer Systems In States

The amendment to the committee's health care bill allows states to essentially opt out of a national public health insurance option if they set up a single-payer alternative that meets similar standards for coverage. Offered by one of Congress's foremost liberals, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the legislation enables a system progressives have long desired.

So why would 13 House Republicans, after bemoaning Democratic plans for public health care for months, attach their names to the provision? Depending on who you ask, it's either a philosophical belief in states' rights or childish political shenanigans.

I think it's the latter.

Jesus what Hypocrites...I wonder how many of those publicly supported allowing single-payer provisions?

And your objection to allowing states to take care of their own their own way is what, precisely?

Or do you disbelieve in the notion of states rights, and consider the 10th Amendment to the Constitution a mere trifling annoyance?

Wow, this author is a moron.

In an exquisite political irony, 13 Republicans on the House Education and Labor Committee offered their support for an amendment that allowed states to set up single-payer health care systems.

The amendment to the committee's health care bill allows states to essentially opt out of a national public health insurance option if they set up a single-payer alternative that meets similar standards for coverage.

How is that ironic at all?

Assuming that you're someone who opposes single-payer, it's completely reasonable to say that if you're going to be forced to have single-payer, you would prefer it to be by state rather than national.

If you have control of Congress and are proposing a bill to kick me in the balls 10 times, I would support an amendment to make it so you could only kick me once. Does that mean I want you to kick me in the balls?

Why don't you try reading and thinking on your own next time before you just blindly CTRL-C, CTRL-V some HuffPost writer's idiocy?

I realize the question is rhetorical, since these communists want all of us to pay for some bull**** program to take over 30% of the economy.

Let's see if I have this right. Thirteen republicans voted for an amendment sponsored by the very liberal Dennis Kucinich, and one which promotes progressive ideals, yet they are getting attacked for it anyway?

Good grief. In any sort of sensible world, a true liberal would be thanking them for their vote.

The question is are these 13 republicans guys who have railed against Obama for "socialism" and about the government taking over health care. If you have quotes from them saying such yes that would be hypocritical. Another thing you missed is the vote the other day. Several republicans have come out against Medicare calling it a failed program and bashing on it. So one democrat called their bluff and introduced a bill to kill Medicare. Everyone in congress voted against it including the republicans. This just goes to show this is political show its more about hurting Obama than protecting Americans.

Yeah, have fun with that argument.

Medicare is a failed program--or is about to be. Bankruptcy == failure, and Medicare is going bankrupt; as constructed it is not sustainable. There is no avoiding that reality, and there is no debating that reality.

So some bright brainy lunatic liberal in Congress gets a wild hair up his butt to just cancel Medicare. Solves the financial problems right away--and the people who paid into the system, who played by the rules set up by Congress, are left stranded. It would be just as harsh as eliminating all health insurance today--you would bring healthcare costs down pretty damn quick, but the body count during the transition would be pretty damn high. The Republicans, being possessed of at least some brains and every politicians desire to get re-elected, voted down the bright brainy lunatic liberal.

That's not being hypocritical or anything else but realistic.

Or using a modicum of critical thought to try to figure out why they voted that way.

Oh, I'm glad they had some sense of justice for their states, but in terms of how they are reacting to proposed Health Care in general, they are hypocrites.

Amen, this was exactly my thoughts. It is a tireless rant for Republicans to continually whine about "Socialism" and such, when they themselves support these very same programs. In 2003 the Republican party had control of House, Senate, and White House, yet they did not end that socialism called Medicare. Worse, the party of fiscal responsibility provided a bill that had massive cost increases, yet provided absolutely no plan to pay. Hence the defecit expands, the debt increases. As if that was not enough, they just could not stop there. There whole plan was a gift to private insurance (Medicare payment lock-ins) and gift to pharmaceuticals (forbid the largest insurer to negotiate prices).

As I have pointed out several times, why don't these same Republicans truly end all this socialism we have? When can we expect public education to end? State colleges and universities to be closed? Public libraries to shut down (most of them obviously never use them anyways, what with nothing but books there). I seriously want to know why Republicans time and time again do not end public education? Why do they continue with this socialism?

Why do we still have police and fire? Why not use the free market to provide for private contractors?

Is it hypocrisy that I oppose Roe v. Wade but support legalized abortions?

Only if one doesn't possess the mental faculties to comprehend what anti-federalism and small government conservativism really is.

I like these 13 republicans very much for doing the correct thing and supporting small federal government authority over the states.

The real pity for the Republican party is that they don't have more of these people around.

The real pity for the Democratic party is that this befuddles them and they can't figure out why these guys did it.

The real pity for America is that of all of our elected officials, apparently only the minority actually get it.

You hit the nail on the head my friend. Totally hypocritical. It's like Palin saying she's a free market capitalist as she sends checks to every household in the state from the oil company.

Let's not forget she then railed about "Socialism". This of course was all brought about by one comment Obama made about progressive taxes, something that even McCain was on record, on video in fact, supporting. Like I say, these people have to be born without the shame gene, no other explanation as to how they can so shamelessly lie and be such shameless hypocrites. But then when revenues drop and she can no longer send out the big fat checks, when she has an actual budget to deal with, she quits. Yet here where are arguing with people that think this is someone who is qualified to be President.

Did you really just drag Sarah Palin into this thread?

We really need to have a corollary to Godwin's Law here.

It ain't rocket science. This is a Republican attempt to comprimise on the bill, but at the same time not attaching their names to a falling star. It's also a Dem attempt to not have their name dragged though the mud, plus remaining loyal to the party. When/if the states decided to adopt a one payer system and it flops--and it will flop--they can just blame the states.

I can hear it now, "Hey, we tried to pass health reform, but the states dicked it up. Sorry, we tried. Next?"

What ever gave you the idea that conservatives were for small government? They've been peddling that bull**** lie for years.

This thread

I laughed when I saw Republicans responding to every post by a democrat but democrats only responding to each other and ignoring Republican posts. I guess the truth of the matter is they don't want to get into a discussion, but rather just build up straw men and foam at their mouth about Sarah Palin... which would be completely irrelevant, but meet the partisan ends they are trying to reach.

This is the second hyper-partisan thread I have seen in the last day. I'm already sick of them.

How many industries were nationalized by the Conservatives?

Really?!? Gonna have to ask you post some documentation supporting that notion, friend. Thanks in advance for the info.

You don't know what TARP is? True, it wasn't complete nationalization, but it gave the government a stake in most of the banking industry and a controlling stake in several institutions. Bush along with the Democrats helped orchestrate that.

TARP didn't nationalize banks. Keep trying and let's see some source documentation. I'm sure you know what that is, since you're such a great speller.
