Gates says it's time to 'move on' from his arrest

I agree. No good will come from beating a dead horse.

Everyone has a crappy day sometimes. Doesn't matter whether you think Gates had the crappy day, Crowley had the crappy day, or both of them had a crappy day....sometimes the best thing is to just let it go and move on.

This is one of those times.

Yea right it had everything to do with him and how he was a complete arse.

He owes the Officer an apology and so does Mr. Obama

Fame is fleeting. Now that he's had his 15 seconds of fame, played the proverbial "race card" and secured his seat in the Jessie Jackson Hall of Fame of Black Victims  we can now put this to rest.

And what better time, I ask you? Now that the black officers, who actually witnessed the event, came out on the side of the alleged "racist sargeant."
Now that the tide of public opinion has turned based on the dictates of reality, let's all just piss on the fire and call the dogs.

Move on. Nothing to see here folks.

Instead of thanking the officer for investigating a legitimate call at HIS property, he, instead chose to "cry black."

Move on indeed. I'm still waiting for BO's apology. Just like Bush, BO refuses to admit his error? Perhaps?

Sorry Scorp. Didn't mean to mirror your post. I was writing while you were posting. We were a minute apart. That just means that great minds think alike.

BOSTON — Black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. says he's ready to move on from his arrest by a white police officer, hoping to use the encounter to improve fairness in the criminal justice system and saying "in the end, this is not about me at all."

After a phone call from President Barack Obama urging calm in the aftermath of his arrest last week, Gates said he would accept Obama's invitation to the White House for a beer with him and Cambridge police Sgt. James Crowley.

In a statement posted Friday on The Root, a Web site Gates oversees, the scholar said he told Obama he'd be happy to meet with Crowley, whom Gates had accused of racial profiling.

"I told the president that my principal regret was that all of the attention paid to his deeply supportive remarks during his press conference had distracted attention from his health care initiative," Gates said. "I am pleased that he, too, is eager to use my experience as a teaching moment, and if meeting Sergeant Crowley for a beer with the president will further that end, then I would be happy to oblige."

It was a marked change in tone for Gates, who in the days following his arrest gathered up his legal team and said he was contemplating a lawsuit. He even vowed to make a documentary on his arrest to tie into a larger project about racial profiling.

Holy ****, this is hilarious.

You have to wonder what was the biggest factor in his decision to completely change course:

1) Public opinion and facts turning against him,
2) Prospect of this becoming a bigger issue with tapes, lawsuits, etc., or
3) Obama asking him to drop it to get this out of the paper.

Too funny. I also love how the whole "having a beer with the president" thing is being so hyped.

If BO wants to impress me I want to hear him say that he and the good professor are going to smoke a blunt and have some Cognac and forget the whole "blame whitey" mess.

But somehow, I don't see that happening.

Maybe all of the above. Still, as far as moving on being a good idea, Gates is right. One man's crappy day and Dear Leader's crappy commentary are small controversies. This story has had its fifteen minutes. Time to let it die.

Gates has been ordered by Hahvahd and the Messiah to turn it off and STFU, because it's blowing up in the Messiah's face.

That's all.

It's starting to blowup in Gates's face. Of course he wants to move on.

While his request to move on is probably the right thing for everyone, it's all too convenient and seems very disingenuous to me.

The only thing I think the tapes will show is that Gates was in fact a complete asshole. Many people will say that right or wrong, Gates deserved to go to jail for the way he was acting. You all know my opinion on this for the most part so I'll not belabor the issue.

The problem I have is that Gates is sticking to this race angle. How is this going to be an opportunity to improve fairness in the criminal justice system? Gates said...
"This could and should be a profound teaching moment in the history of race relations in America," Gates said. "I sincerely hope that the Cambridge police department will choose to work with me toward that goal."

This was not about race. His comments are insincere. He's holding to the idea that he was persecuted because of his skin color and not because he was a loud mouthed jerk.

I don't like this guy. Not at all.

Speaking of tapes check this one out,

He's not a likable guy, but there is no freedom more essential than the freedom to be a loud-mouthed jerk.

He ran his mouth, he got his time out, he got his fifteen minutes....let's go back to ignoring him and treating him like the irrelevancy that he is.

Gates is a race hustler. And he makes good money at it which is why people like him, Jackson, and Sharpton, are still around.
