Joe Biden is launching his first general-election TV ads in Texas as a growing number of polls show a close presidential race here.
"I'm of thinking all of you today across Texas," Biden says in the ad, which opens with a shot of Marfa. "I know the rise in case numbers is causing fear and apprehension."

"The virus is tough, but Texas is tougher," Biden later says, telling Americans to follow guidelines to slow the spread of the virus — and that he wants them to know: "I will not abandon you. We're all in this together."

Is Texas possibly becoming competitive? Hard to believe! Who'd, have thunk it? But with the recent Forbes & Dallas Morning News polls both showing Biden up by +5, it may be. At the least, the GOP find themselves in the unusual position of having to defend Texas. Though with the solidly Left Beto O'Rourke causing Ted Cruz to have to defend his seat in '18, maybe there were signs we missed?

After his more competitive than expected loss to Cruz, I wanted Beto to skip his pipe-dream Presidential bid, hoping he would instead go after John Cornyn's seat. I thought Cornyn might be weaker then we realize. Regardless, we'll have to see how Cornyn's new challenger works-out after the Dem run-off. You never know, Cornyn might get knocked-off. Wouldn't that be something?

Yes, we live in strange days. Could "Make America Great Again", have devolved into "Make Solidly Red States Competitive Again"?

We shall see ...

Only in the first furlong.........

Texas is slowly turning blue with all the immigration.

You'd think that would make Texans anti illegal immigration, and some are, but there's too many who make money off of cheap labor from Mexico.

I wouldn't doubt it. I was very surprised to find Texas is a minority state! Yep. It's majority minority. In addition, Hispanics only number a few scant percent less than Caucasians, and the Hispanic population will soon outnumber the Caucasian population in 2022 - two years!

I was not aware of these demographic changes. I suspect our romantic image of this guy below, will need to be left to the dustbin of history:

(Ironically the original RL actor who also was a RL cowboy & rancher, passed last year)

The demographics have changed faster than the voting patterns. Whites vote at a much higher percentage. If the minority populations voted at the same percentage as whites it likely would have turned purple/blue a decade ago. So always Texas polls with a grain of salt. I just hope Biden doesn't forget to absolutely pump the swing states full of ads. I would love to see Trumpism get absolutely trounced from coast to coast, but actually winning is the most important goal.

Yes, I do believe that Texas is becoming competitive.
I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime, Tres. But we lost the Marloboro Man, and so it seems we are poised to soon lose the Old Texas. Would LBJ approve? I think so!

The bolded was pointed-out in another article I researched for the OP. It would be Blue.

The Marlboro Man was a real man.

The Marlboro Man was a real man.
I've commented about it, above. The original Marlborough Man just passed last year - ironically.

Even the Stones referenced him in 'Satisfaction'!

Rachel Maddow in 2016. Exact same claims, exact same poll situation in Texas
Wasn't aware, but this year there does seem to be reasonable polling in support of the claim.

It was the same situation 4 years ago- Several polls had Clinton within the MOE in Texas, one had them tied, or had Clinton slightly up

I'm telling you all, Trump voters don't return e-mails from pollsters, they hate Washington bureaucrats, and they don't want to spend 45 minutes completing a lengthy poll. Some pollsters are even coming out now and saying directly, don't trust these numbers, we had a similar situation in 2016.

I think there's some truth to this, but then how do you explain the relative high degree of accuracy in the 2016 election? The national polls' aggregate was within 1-1/2 pts, which was pretty much the most accurate Presidential polling year yet.

Edit: Ah, I see you were referring to TX specifically. I'm not familiar with those numbers, so I won't dispute them in this edit.

Not bad!
Thanks for finding & posting the ad. Yeah, I think it was decent. The "I will not abandon you" phrase & scene was powerful, I must admit.

Will it play in TX? I don't know. I'm not a Texan. But I like that Biden is taking a calm inclusive tack. It provides a stark contrast to Trump. Let the voters decide. It's all you can do.

Yeah, Trump ended up winning by 9 points in Texas

In terms of polls closing the Clinton-Trump gap in November, I know that in the couple months leading up to the election pollsters stop oversampling for data collection reasons, but I still think there’s an issue though of Trump voters not responding to pollsters that lasts through Election Day, which is why I think the Swing State polls were off. And why although most polls in Nov 2016 were within the MOE, nearly all of them slanted towards Clinton, rather than slanting towards Trump.

Not that this would ever happen, but if people want an accurate picture of the election, simply CALL people and ask them two questions: Who do you support, and what is your political party. And then end the call. And be sure to call rural areas as well as urban and suburban.

I don’t have a TV, what are these Ads you speak of?

I’ve learned that time spent in front of a TV is a waste of time. Internet gives me all I need for news, weather, etc., ad blocker on.

Books more better than TV.

You can target ads to people in certain states on facebook, google, youtube, radio etc. No one said anything about a TV.

They might respond if the questions were simpler.

"Do you like good stuff?"
"Biden is a poopyface libturd communist. Do you agree or disagree??"
"Do you like freedoms?"

That sort of thing.

There were several men who were models for that advertising icon

Another Marlboro Man from California, David McLean, died of lung cancer at 73 in the UCLA Medical Center in 1995. His widow later sued Philip Morris, contending that McLean had to smoke pack after pack of cigarettes during Marlboro shoots so directors could create the perfect scene.

Marlboro was initially marketed to women.

Liberals enjoy data. They enjoy assigning numbers and percentages to people's opinions, grouping people into categories, graphing the data, looking for patterns...

Many Trump voters could care less about all this. They know one thing, who they're voting for. ;)

I wonder if you’re able to reconcile your post with your other thread celebrating Rasmussen’s 3 point lead for Biden.

No, scratch that. I don’t wonder. I know that the contradiction has gone perfectly over your head.

I'm well aware that Trump voters do not care for data, thought, or any sort of analysis. It's all and only about screwing the libs.

And so democracy falls.
