President Donald Trump said on Friday he will sign an executive order on immigration in the next few weeks with a road to citizenship for migrants who are in the United States illegally but arrived in the country as children.
“I’m going to do a big executive order. … And I’m going to make DACA a part of it,” Trump said. “We’re going to have a road to citizenship.”
In the meantime, we’ll put it in, we’ll take it out… I think people are going to be very happy with it, but one of the aspects of the bill, which, frankly, nobody knows about until right now, because I told no another reporter, so you have breaking news. Congratulations.

But one of the aspects of the bill is going to be DACA. We’re going to have a road to citizenship.

How about that?

This is not an official White House pronouncement. Apparently, these quotes came from an interview with Trump today today on Telemundo. And as usual for Trump, it's delivered in 'word salad' style. So who knows? As always with Trump, we'll see. He may have just playing to Telemundo's audience.

Too late.

His feelings about immigrants are too well known at this point.

Makes me like him even more.

Trump is in a tough spot here. If he does sign it, he may peel off some hispanic support from Biden. However, he alienates the radical racists in his base, who will stay home or even vote third party. Either way he loses here, IMO.

You people are so black and white

The world is complicated

I can't believe you found a way to make this thread negative :lamo

There's a lot of frustrated anti-Trumpers for life out there.

In their eyes, he can never ever do the right thing.

He said no other president has done more for black people than him and American Jews have no choice but to vote for him, so why not start claiming the same about Latinos?

A lot of right wingers are scared of a pathway to citizenship, because they think the GOP will be done in.... it's interesting, becasue Trump is down really bad in the polls and needs to broaden his appeal...

I don't believe him.

Yep, but if he does try to broaden his appeal to hispanic voters, he loses racist white voters who support him in the process. Ann Coulter is already done with him, though she'll probably still vote for him UNLESS he does do something to give a pathway to citizenship for dreamers. In that case Coulter and Republicans like her will jump ship, and either stay home or vote third party. As I said, it's no win situation for him, IMO.

If you read the article you will see that apparently the cleanup crew at the White House is saying Trump doesn’t know what he is taking about. Surprise, surprise.

Read on and you will see:

“Spoke to administration sources: The EO does not include a path to immigration for DACA recipients... because it's entirely illegal. The Trump Administration is still working on rescinding DACA.

This EO is going to be all merit based immigration prioritizing based on skill”

EO’s ARE generally black and white. I’ve never seen one with red letters.

I will need clarification on what "we will put it in, we will take it out....means in reality.

Less than a month ago he was seething over the Supreme Court decision..called it a shotgun blast into the face of those proud to be Republicans. So why the change of heart?

Less than a month ago he stated that he would file "enhanced" papers to again call for the end of DACA.

Less than a month ago he stated he would supply a list of potential judicial appointees to help him get his way on immigration.

So I find it fascinating that he's done a 180 on this issue....and it's a SURPRISE! And his supporters here are all in. Wonders never cease.

Too late.

His feelings about immigrants are too well known at this point.

Not against immigrants, against ILLEGAL ALIENS. Law breakers and criminals. Big difference. Besides, his wife is an immigrant, just not an illegal alien criminal.

Trump was never going to deport the children of illegal aliens as long as they weren't here committing other crimes. He was always willing to figure out the best path forward with them, but the Democrats wanted to hold the DACA people hostage just as a took to leverage for something else. Had the democrats actually cared for these kids they would have done something when they had the power to do so under Obama. But instead all they are to the democrats are pawns.

See post 11. The White House cleanup crew says Trump is confused as usual.

If you want to see amazing reactions, go to the public comment sections of hard-core Trump sites like Breitbart.

I think Trump's audience is the Dem House, where he is dangling DACA to get an immigration reform bill to bring to his base. I doubt the House will buy into it, at this juncture. The time has past, and Pelosi will see it for the desperation move it is.

If he is promising an exec order, why does he need the Dem House?

Trump doesn't care .... he knowingly lies all the time. His interview will go out on Telemundo and let the chips fall where they may.

It is incredible that there is a cleanup crew at the White House....needed just like the circus elephants.

Honestly, and this is no defense of Trump, but it's tough to be a "GOP leader" these days. They have radicalized their base so much, that giving a pathway to citizen to kids who came here out of no fault of their own is considered unthinkable.

Romney had this problem as well in 2012. He was the moderate Republican governor of liberal Massachusetts, who had to pretend to be a "severe conservative" in the primaries to appeal to the far right. Remember "self deportation"? Yeah, that line hurt him badly. Romney would then try to go back to being a moderate in the general election, and it failed. At least Trump continues to pretend to be a "severe conservative" to pander to the radicals in the GOP base, though it's clear now he's getting very desperate as he continues to alienate everyone outside of his base.

Because he talks nonsense. If you read the full transcript of the interview (in the linked article), it seems he's trying to get a deal. But who knows? He talks in circles. And we've had four years of this.

Trump has attacked legal immigration, worker and student visas, and refugee applicants. My local community has a huge Burmese refugee population, and Trump put a total travel ban on the country of Burma. They are having a civil war, and many people face genocide and mass murder there.

Trump's decisions on immigration is very heartless, and he hasn't even offered a decent explanation to communities immigrants.

The camps on the boarder are the most shameful thing to occur in American history in my entire life.

Your post if full of so much cognitive dissonance.

The GOP Leadership's troubles couldn't befall a better bunch!

Let him lose his "racist white voters". He doesn't need them. He has more to gain by supporting a humane pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.

Who gives a **** what has been Ann Coulter thinks?

Uh-huh.

A random "writer" spoke to Administration sources.

And you are quoting it as fact. ;)
