"The army, during certain visits, found some old people completely abandoned, sometimes even dead in their beds," she added.

An investigation has been launched, the general prosecutor announced.

Another 514 people have died in Spain over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 2,696.

The government said the number of infections has surged towards 40,000, rising by nearly 20% to 39,673.

Damn, it's like something out of The Walking Dead.

Absolutely disgusting.

May the staff of that place all rot in Hell.

"Under coronavirus protocols, health workers have been instructed to leave bodies in place in suspected Covid-19 deaths until the arrival of a doctor. But given the upsurge in deaths the delay can be lengthy."

The system is completely overwhelmed.

Ok, so what does that have to do with en masse job abandonment by nursing home staff?

You ever been put in a situation where you feel completely helpless and hopeless? Until you have...I might suggest you save your 'judgement' of others.

I know of health care providers and social workers that work in retirement homes that have breakdowns over the losses on a GOOD day. I can only imagine what they are experiencing in Spain and Italy. I also know pretty much less than nothing about the circumstances in those retirement homes in Spain because there are no details in the actual story.

I wouldn’t choose a career in which I’m responsible for the health and well-being of others if I didn’t think I could handle it. These people are murderers and I hope Spain tracks them down and locks them up for life.

Spoken like someone that is truly clueless.

You should rush right out and join the fray. Show them how its done.

Burnout is a very real thing. Elder Caregivers are some of the most amazing and dedicated people you will ever know. Burnout is a very real problem in the field as it is in most of the helping fields. Spains death toll is so great that the have had to use converted skating rinks as a field morgue. And again...you literally know less than dick about the situation there.

You are wasting your time if you think you can convince anyone that abandoning their patients and without telling anyone for the army to find them dead and dying alone is anything less than criminal.

Oh I get that it is a waste of time trying to get people to think outside of their pathetic little boxes they have created by reading a headline from a news article that you know literally less than dick about. I also get that it is a total waste of time to try to get people that have no idea what other peoples experiences might be like to see things through anything other than their own bigotry and ignorance.

Believe it or not, my responses posted on this site arent meant for you. Because I get that its a waste of time talking to you.

Well said. I understand burnout. I understand needing to get away from it all for a while. I DON'T understand not calling anybody and just leaving their patients to dehydrate, starve, and die. One phone call to give authorities a heads up would have been the least they could do.

Damn, it's like something out of The Walking Dead.

I would not use that comparison. It's a super phnemonia virus with a 3% fatality rate. But agree, how horrible for those elderly and families, it is heart breaking.

I fear that once the virus swamps Florida we will see similar scenes, images of Katrina. As in Spain and Italy our health structure is not ramped up to accommodate how contagious this virus has become.

We dont know the fatality rate....anyone who claims otherwise does not know what they are talking about....clearly.

Its easy to be self righteous when one is an indecent moron, and Lordy, we have far too many of them sort these days....

Uhuh. So this is serious. And you're really mad. You're mad on those peoples' behalf because the staff should have taken this very serious disease seriously, instead of...

I think he meant their exaggeration of the problem was the "hoax"

...instead of going on about how the opposing party is exaggerating it. Is that right, Roadvirus? That was only from a month ago.

A month ago, and you were playing the disgusting right wing game of accusing the democrats of a hoax for "exaggerating" coronavirus.

Bull****

They had a responsibility to those people. Instead, they abandoned them.

People get scared. I won't fault someone for running when it looks like all is lost. The law will deal with them for leaving their post, but human nature is what it is. Not everyone's a fighter; not everyone thought they'd have to go down with the ship. Remember a lot of care home workers are not medics who took the Hippocratic Oath. A lot of them are just regular people; migrant workers, volunteers and part-timers. It's a ****ty state of affairs all around but the numbers are awful in Spain and Italy and their systems are overwhelmed.

If the Democrats would've stopped complaining and actually contributed to a solution, we would be better off. But no. Complaining was all they had. That and filling a relief bill with pork.

quit trying to defend negligent homicide.

I'm not defending the act, just understanding the impulse. People get scared and make mistakes. Their lawyers can defend them as they will probably be prosecuted; they don't need me.
