Any President would calculate the political impact on him or her. Obama did the same with h1n1. Trump otoh, put that aside and watched his economy crumble.

It means it will run its course in every household, but then they will be immune for the time being. Those without any infections won't get sick.

We could theoretically go back to " normal" with surveillance based containment going forward. This would require a real effort to get a system in place to actually do containment testing.

Kind of start over from a point more like the first of the year.

Dragging this out won't be good for anybody. Not people, not the economy. The worst thing would be to drag what we're doing in California out for months. Rents and mortgages are going to be due and none of the current relief is going to cover those for long.

Exactly! We essentially get to start over from (near) the beginning. This is somewhat similar to how China abated the virus' progress, and began their recovery. But to begin round two we need to test in order to contain! So a shut-down might accomplish two things:

1] It halts the virus' progress, as you said (somewhat) resetting the clock
2] It allows us to produce tests & supplies needed to battle the virus as it should have been done initially.

I've stayed in for over a week and while I'd like to go pick up some stuff at the store, I'll wait until I need pet food next week. Fortunately I can also stay home with no financial issues unlike the people around me. I guess what irks me is seeing people wave this thing off while refusing to stay home, so if a two week quarantine kicks in, I'll probably be wishing I'd at least gone out to do random stuff while practicing social distancing. :doh

Yeah, just as I thought. Being critical of an expert, turning this into another political fanfare, that is so important right now.
The reason we are not making more strides is not necessarily because of leadership or lack thereof, it is because too many of us think they know better than the experts. We are selfish and spoiled, and our lack of discipline, our lack of personal responsibility, and our failure to give in for the time being and listen to authorities will keep spreading this thing with no end in sight.
We should evaluate if what we say or post is a positive contribution in this crisis, or if we are just looking to pat ourselves on the back.
I just hope that, if more and more people are willing to take personal responsibility, and are adult enough to make sacrifices, that it will make a difference for the rest of the nation.

Agreed. With today's technology, we really aren't "socially isolating". Not at all. Rather, we are "physically isolating".

Now I won't say this is easy or good. But, it's nothing like it would have been several decades ago without our current technologies.

Given all the questions about Trump and his entire administration...and especially about his virus team...starting with the VP and moving on down the line, I don't think it should be out of bounds to look at Fauci, either.

I haven't said, I'm not saying...and the article I linked isn't saying...that Fauci isn't doing his job and doing it the best he can. I presented that article so people who really don't know who he is...and I am one of them...can find out who he is.

And the harder we stop, the quicker we can get going again. Hell, we need to know who already had it so they can go back to work. A test for antibodies would be very helpful.

It is possible the bad "flu" I had the first of February was COVID. I work in convention AV and work in close quarters with folks from all over the world. If I knew I had already had it I could start volunteering, for instance. (I already contacted my union hall to volunteer, but imagine if I could help without worrying about catching it and taking it home?)

We need creative thinking and great coordination.

And most important we need to set aside our differences for a bit.

We can get back to hating each other later

trump has already fired all of his economic bullets, continues to try to intimidate his way out of the mess he created with his bully bullets, but exponentially worse has put the lives of every healthcare professional at risk to keep ‘his numbers’ low.

By the time republican suppliers of PPE’s have price-gouged hospitals into bankruptcy, there won’t be nearly enough healthcare professionals left.

I'm for my country, not for an individual named Trump. The country is best served by getting rid of him, we see it every time we turn on the TV. Many more will be sick & die now, due to him & his. It's kind of funny how the Examiner is now cheering a police state. That's a bit dramatic, but...2 weeks becomes 2 months, all of a sudden the election is happening and we can't have that because it's too dangerous.
