Trump: I’m a wartime president

Also Trump: states are on their own for medical supplies

So, which is it? Are you a leader, or are you just full of excuses?

‘We’re not a shipping clerk’: Trump tells governors to step up efforts to get medical supplies

President Donald Trump on Thursday put the onus on governors to obtain the critical equipment their states need to fight the coronavirus pandemic, telling reporters that the federal government is “not a shipping clerk” for the potentially life-saving supplies.
Appearing at the daily press briefing of the White House coronavirus task force, the president defended his decision to invoke the Defense Production Act — which would allow the administration to direct U.S. industry to ramp up production of emergency medical provisions — without actually triggeringthe statute.
[h=2]“Governors are supposed to be doing a lot of this work, and they are doing a lot of this work,” Trump said. “The Federal government is not supposed to be out there buying vast amounts of items and then shipping. You know, we’re not a shipping clerk.”
The president’s remarks amounted to a rebuke of governors’ recent pleas for more robust federal intervention amid the rapidly spreading outbreak, which they warn will soon overwhelm local health care systems if hospital beds, face masks and other necessities are not soon furnished in significantly greater numbers.

He is a wartime President. He is at war against the blue states.

He's correct.

There was a poll about which government you trust to deal with the coronavirus

Federal 45%
Local 65%
State 75%

So nobody trusts the fed.

He is a wartime President. He is at war against the blue states.

Indeed.

Trump Told Governors to Buy Own Virus Supplies, Then Outbid Them
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker told Trump during a video conference on Thursday that his state three times lost out to the federal government on purchases of critical supplies, creating an awkward moment during the made-for-TV event at Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington.

Three weeks ago, the states weren't doing anything...the CDC and HHS were doing all the work. That has changed. Now it's the states and local areas doing the work...as they should.

Besides, who would know better what each state or each local hospital needs? The local government or the Feds? The bureaucracy is in place at the state level...why add another layer that will only slow things down?

As I said...Trump is correct.

If he can't figure out an umbrella, it stands to reason that he doesn't get shipping or managing a pandemic. Probably best to leave it to ambitious governors. Sounds like he inadvertently got something right.

The State of Washington is building new temporary hospital facilities on their own.

If the fed government isn't responsible for helping out states, then why did he bother to declare a state of emergency. Today, it was dem. Chuck Schumer who had to convince Trump to use his new powers to command industry to produce PPE gear. I could go on, but it will do no good with any Trump supporters.

Trump says lots of things. Meanwhile the supplies in our hospitals are dwindling.

So what do expect to happen, the white house start manufacturing medical supplies? We have been telling lefties for over 40 years to stop exporting our manufacturing to other countries, now suddenly the left is panic buying toilet paper and expecting magical medical supply factories to start up overnight. It's not going to happen.

Trump demonstrates his incompetency with mixed messaging.

Nobody said the Fed won't help out states.

And Trump hasn't commanded anyone to produce anything...yet. (unless you know something I don't...please provide a link)

Please...stop the spinning and nonsense.

Yes, actually. Why authorize the Defense Production Act if you’re not going to use it? Hospitals are setting up sewing stations for people to sew masks. But the President can’t direct companies to manufacture supplies?

We have been telling lefties for over 40 years to stop exporting our manufacturing to other countries
Nonsense. The right — especially under this president — is all too happy to allow companies to send jobs over seas and avoid us taxes and regulations.

now suddenly the left is panic buying toilet paper and expecting magical medical supply factories to start up overnight. It's not going to happen.
Riiiight. Only ‘lefties’ are panicking. I guess that’s why my MAGA family and friends in Texas can’t find toilet paper.

And yet, Trump gives himself a '10'. Could he be wrong?

Well after you righties worked so hard making it possible for workers to join unions and strike for higher wages, we had no choice but to move all those jobs.

He's correct.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Shipping clerk is not a delegated power.

Yeah, Obama distributing all those test kits across state lines surely violated the constitution.
