A Republican effort to subpoena records about Joe Biden and his son Hunter could be derailed amid concerns from at least one GOP senator that the push appears politically motivated. The Senate Homeland Security Committee is set to vote next Wednesday on a subpoena for records from a Democratic public relations firm related to the panel’s investigation of conflict-of-interest allegations against the Bidens.

But Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), a member of the panel, has hinted that he could vote against issuing the subpoena, noting the committee’s investigation might look political in nature given Biden’s resurgence and the increasing likelihood that he’ll become the Democratic presidential nominee.

“There’s no question the appearance is not good,” Romney told reporters, adding that he is still “considering” his vote.

Republicans hold a slim 8-6 majority, and if just one GOP senator joins all Democrats, it would mean a 7-7 tie that would result in a failure to issue the subpoena.

Get a different committee to work on it.

Of course it's political. It's also mafia like.

Poor Mitt, once a GOP candidate for President, now set to be torn apart by his own party because he refuses to kowtow in front of the alter of Trump.

whats the matter....

if there is nothing to hide.....

isnt that what a LOT of you say about Trump and all the investigations surrounding him?

seems like whats good for the goose is good for the gander....

The fact that he may be the democratic nominee (or the president) has nothing to do with it, right?

i mean, its not political in any way....its just doing what is right....

isnt that what all of you were saying just a mere few months ago.....

Mitt Romney has absolutely nothing on the line, he's not indebted to Trump for anything, he has no fear and he's a man of integrity. So what's to think about? He'll do the right thing.

Be prepared, the knives will be out now. Joe Biden knows exactly what's coming his way, so does the entire democratic congress. They aren't intimidated.

Where was Romney's outrage when the Democrats were conducting their political investigations?

So you admit the whole Burisma thing is political. That's good. Step one to shaking off the conspiracy theory.

Romney is an opportunist. i will say that his Netflix documentary gave me a slightly softer view of him, but not soft enough that i'd give him a big hug and a handshake after he showed up at my job to tell me that we were all fired so that his company could drink the assets before closing it all down.

Interesting. Very, interesting.

Looks like Romney can have his John McCain moment. It just amazes me that only 1 out of 53 senators actually grew balls when they were young. They are the slimiest, spineless, worthless bunch of senators in American history.

Isn't everyone an opportunist? i can't remember anytime in my life I turned down a decent opportunity. Perhaps Romney is concerned about America's appearance and his own legacy.

And I'll add this. Why if Trump is so superior to everyone, is he worried about Biden? It's clear he is scared to death. Had Biden fell out of the primary, we would not be hearing any of this.

That's not what I admitted.
Try not to speak for other people.

i don't have much sympathy for Gordon Geckos even if they put forward a facade of opposing the latest Gordon Gecko.

100% correct!

Keep on Truthing.

You see to a cult member like her, The Trump investigations, which were based on actual real events happening, are a hoax. But the Burisma Biden thing, which is based off of a Russian CT, is real, because trump says so.

Too obvious. Trump's been afraid of Biden for a long time.

Some people still haven't realized Romney argued Trump is guilty and the charges were proven. They haven't realized Romney wasn't kicked out of the Trump cult because he thought Trump was guilty; a lot of cult members in the Senate thought similarly but refused to vote like Romney. Romney was kicked out because he voted and didn't just pay lip service to moderates like Collins.

Once these simple facts of life are realized, arguing Romney should care about anyone's views on the politics of the investigation becomes a gaslighting exercise. Romney never saw the investigations as political cause he concluded Trump had in fact committed a crime - a crime proven by Democrats during the trial.

Don't fall for the idiocy.

No. Anything Romney makes my skin crawl.
Ashamed to say I voted for him.

The documentary might make you feel better about it. I still think he's an opportunistic Gordon Gecko, but he was better in private, IMO. Either way, that's the limit of my defense of Gordon for the night.
