Coronavirus triggers swift bipartisan backlash against Trump

The abiding truth is that none of that matters for two reasons:

1) The CDC doesn’t need any money to exercise common sense. Money doesn’t solve for the fact that their implementation of containment protocols has been and continues to be a comedy of errors.

2) It need this money to implement its pandemic contingency except that contingency plan has several predicates that aren’t satisfied anyway. For example, it needs a stockpile of at least 20 million doses of pre-developed vaccine. The CDC has no real plan for managing a pandemic involving a novel virus like this one.

1) The "comedy of errors" couldn't possibly be a result of firing competent people and hiring of those who swear loyalty to Trump - now could it?

2) from post #5 "The CDC is working on a new test to screen for the coronavirus, but according to New York magazine, problems with the test's development resulted in only three out of 100 public-health labs being equipped to screen for the virus. Moreover, each test costs as much as $250, and the Health and Human Services Department is already running out of money to finance an adequate response to the outbreak.

One of the problems with fighting virus-caused diseases - the viruses mutate quickly, storing 25 million doses of "pre-developed vaccine" may be a waste of storage space and funding. I have read that due to the rapid development of the CVD-19 virus, vaccines may not be available for a year or more.

1) Absolutely not. The errors being made are mostly a lack of common sense on the part of people who should know better at both the federal and local level.

2) You missed the point. The CDC has no adequate response plan to implement for a novel virus. The only pandemic contingency it has ever developed relies upon a scenario involving a known virus for which we already have a vaccine and a large enough stockpile of it to inoculate a minimum of 20 million people. And let’s keep in mind the fact that the only treatment on offer for this virus in America is literally Tylenol and chicken soup. If you’re looking for money just to figure out how to test for it then it’s already too late and it doesn’t matter if the CDC has all the money ever printed.

Are you ready to close the border, now?

Borders stop the corona virus? Who knew?

In fact, from what I have read not one case in the US has been traced back to someone illegally crossing the border from Mexico. So far, it appears to have been introduced to the US by people flying into the US.

Unfortunately, politicians are going to weaponize the coronavirus "crisis" for political gain and the facts you've enumerated will be ignored.

Bloomy already has ads on the air touting his imaginary response to the non-crisis.

The # is more than 15. The CDC confirmed 60.

POTUS is more concerned about the Dow's numbers than the potential for the spreading of the virus across Europe, Middle East, Asia and Europe.

I was surprised when I read the names of a couple of the Senators criticising the Administration's response - or lack of response - to the spread of the virus.

Half of the Adminstration's request for funding comes from other health-related programs. It seems to be a growing practice for Trump - take money from an approved budget item and move it to some other issue. Those tax cuts are doing great - aren't they.

That's how budgeting works sometimes -- you shift money to where you need it most.

In this case, if you pause to think about it, it makes a lot of sense. If you are shifting resources (scientists, labs, etc) from something that isn't an immediate threat (ebola) to something that is (coronavirus), it makes sense to recategorize the funds you are spending on those resources.

A secured border stops infected people from crossing the border, causing CV to spread more and possibly overwhelming our healthcare system.

When will this corona virus hit us? Can you name a month?

Is Shelby trying to sandbag Trump?

Yeah...Trump needs to do more...but not use the disease containment facility in Alabama to do it.

Anyway, everyone should calm down and let Trump and his administration do their jobs. They've been doing well so far.

Shelby is in his 80's. He ain't gonna cotton to no Chinese diseases that target old people in his state.

Sorry, but when someone like that has to go on air and publicly kiss Trump's ass, he loses all credibility.

Azar - DISMISSED!

True enough - I'm old enough to remember Trump and the GOP savaging Obama for months during the Ebola CRISIS!!! leading up to the midterms, and then the day after the election, the CRISIS!!! suddenly abated.

Trump gave them some ammo this evening, when the virus spreads like we know it already has. At least his team was more realistic that Trump, which is a good sign.

Apparently to you one soldier in Korea = already here.

You need better sources of news. From today.

Coronavirus: 1st case of ‘community spread’ coronavirus being treated in Sacramento County

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A new case of the novel coronavirus confirmed in Northern California is possibly the first instance in the U.S. of community spread, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

The Solano County patient “had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual,” according to the California Department of Public Health. The patient is being treated in Sacramento County.

So it's likely he's the first of at least several in that area. The CDC wouldn't test him for several days because he had no known contacts and so the treatment team didn't have the right precautions in place. Hopefully none of the healthcare workers got sick, but what's concerning is no one knows how he caught it, or who he might have infected before getting really sick.

A secured border stops infected people from crossing the border, causing CV to spread more and possibly overwhelming our healthcare system.

But it doesn't, because we can't know they're infected unless they are showing symptoms, and the incubation period is up to two weeks or more.

Trump was criticized for stopping people from coming here from China by these same fools. Trump most likely saved us from a pandemic. These are the same fools who wanted to bring Eboli to our country. Weren't these the same fool who want open borders to bring plagues to us an a regular basis. Unbelievable. As far as the money goes start with what Trump asked for and if and when we need more then give it to him.

All the more reason to seal the border.

Thanks, NOW can Nancy Pelosi cause us to panic?

PS I am 550 miles from Sacramento

Are you seeking a wholesale panic in this country? I listened to Trump. He is doing it reasonably.

Another opportunity to try to freak people out.

Germs

If it's not guns

It's the weather

Now we can panic people about germs

See that's the cool thing about all these items, they're going nowhere and can ALWAYS serve to get people all worked up & yelling at each other

ABOUT NOTHING LOL

Germs are part of life on Planet earth

The weather is part of life on planet earth

Guns are part of life in America, and really planet earth... they are a human invention that is going nowhere

Unless the weather or germs remove humans of course ; )

By Tweeting it will be over as soon as the weather warms up? Yeah that's presidential.

Exactly. Trump has been trying to secure our border since he ran for office. He is so far ahead of the left it is pathetic.

Really you understand that Americans and other white people travel around the world as well, right?
