I was surprised when I read the names of a couple of the Senators criticising the Administration's response - or lack of response - to the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus triggers swift bipartisan backlash against Trump

The Trump administration confronted a new threat Tuesday in the mounting coronavirus crisis: a fierce bipartisan backlash amid contradictory statements from the federal government about the severity of the outbreak.

Administration officials sought to swat away concerns their emergency request for $2.5 billion to address the outbreak was inadequate, even as some Republicans joined Democrats in criticizing the amount — and slamming a lack of transparency around efforts to contain the disease on U.S. soil.
(. . .)
The Republican chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee at Azar's hearing accused the administration of making a “low ball” request.

“It could be an existential threat to a lot of people in this country,” warned Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.). “So money should not be an object. We should try to contain and eradicate this as much as we can, both in the U.S. and helping our friends all over the world.”

At the homeland security budget hearing, Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.) criticized Wolf for not providing enough information about risks from the outbreak. "You're supposed to keep us safe, and the American people deserve some straight answers on the coronavirus, and I'm not getting them from you,” Kennedy said.

Half of the Adminstration's request for funding comes from other health-related programs. It seems to be a growing practice for Trump - take money from an approved budget item and move it to some other issue. Those tax cuts are doing great - aren't they.

Amazing how it takes a medical emergency to get republicans (not many) to open their eyes to the habits of this WH. The admin has been lying to everyone about the coronavirus. All Trump is worried about is how the stock market is doing. He better wake up.

Is Shelby trying to sandbag Trump?

Yeah...Trump needs to do more...but not use the disease containment facility in Alabama to do it.

Anyway, everyone should calm down and let Trump and his administration do their jobs. They've been doing well so far.

So the concern is that the request for funding is too low?

Well which branch of government is responsible for taxation and allocation of taxes?

That's right; CONGRESS.

To paraphrase a joke by Bill Burr, "you see those other Congressmen around you, ask THEM to vote for more money than the Administration asked for."

That is all it takes.

Yeah, Congress is responsible for the allocation of funding - so why is Trump pulling funds from other programs where the funding was ALLOCATED?

Then there is the problem that some of the issues in regards to battling the coronavirus "CVD-19" are a result of past actions by the President
Trump spent the past 2 years slashing the government agencies responsible for handling the coronavirus outbreak

"China is working very, very hard," Trump told reporters at a business roundtable at the US embassy in New Delhi. "I have spoken to President Xi, and they are working very hard. If you know anything about him, I think he will be in pretty good shape. They have had a rough patch, but now it looks like they are getting it more and more under control. I think that is a problem that is going to go away."

Trump's comments are at odds with reality.
(. . .)
In 2018, for instance, the CDC cut 80% of its efforts to prevent global disease outbreaks because it was running out of money. Ultimately, the department went from working in 49 countries to just 10.

Here are some other actions the Trump administration undertook to dismantle government-spending programs related to fighting the spread of global diseases, according to Foreign Policy:

  • Shutting down the entire global-health-security unit of the National Security Council.
  • Eliminating the US government's $30 million Complex Crises Fund.
  • Reducing national health spending by $15 billion.
  • Consistently attacking Mark Green, the director of the US Agency for International Development.
The CDC is working on a new test to screen for the coronavirus, but according to New York magazine, problems with the test's development resulted in only three out of 100 public-health labs being equipped to screen for the virus. Moreover, each test costs as much as $250, and the Health and Human Services Department is already running out of money to finance an adequate response to the outbreak.

Yes. Im paying less taxes. The economy is growing faster than it was. More people are employed. The govt has more revenue than ever. Whats that got to do with Coronavirus?

Not listening to actual news I can see by your response.

Trump criticism is no surprise.
Congress has the power of the purse so I don’t understand the criticism other than its political.
Are you tell me after they use the 2.5 billion and need more, they can’t get the funding.

Unfortunately, politicians are going to weaponize the coronavirus "crisis" for political gain and the facts you've enumerated will be ignored.

Yes, politicians on both sides dont know how to do anything without first considering how to use it win elections. And so will the people. JUst look at the OP, bringing up unrelated talking points.

Are you ready to close the border, now?

I'm waiting for trump to get the money and then start claiming his wall is the only way to stop the spread so he can spend it on that instead.

The abiding truth is that none of that matters for two reasons:

1) The CDC doesn’t need any money to exercise common sense. Money doesn’t solve for the fact that their implementation of containment protocols has been and continues to be a comedy of errors.

2) It need this money to implement its pandemic contingency except that contingency plan has several predicates that aren’t satisfied anyway. For example, it needs a stockpile of at least 20 million doses of pre-developed vaccine. The CDC has no real plan for managing a pandemic involving a novel virus like this one.

This is the best response you could come up with.

I've just taking to making up preposterous things for trump to do.

Eventually I'll hit one and get to say "See! I told you!".

Gotta try to have some fun while that ****head craps all over the country and tells us it's raining.

And his supporters turn their heads up to get a taste.

Republicans will speak up to debate the issue in terms of it being a public health concern which requires policy actions. In this there will be differences of opinions, but they will not use this for personal politics-- it will be about getting the best things done for the good of the country i.e., patriotism.

Democrats just as with every other issue, will look to weaponize it politically without any true concern about the issue or the best answers/solutions or outcomes. Trump could wave a magic want and make the virus go away and everyone get a Christmas sock full of diamonds, and the dimocrats would still complain about it. Because dimocrats are only interested getting power and keeping power. The complete opposite of patriotism.

The horse already left the barn........

Has it? Thousands of CV infected central americans are flooding into the states desperate for medical care? Link?

Closing the borders needs to happen.

Closing the borders needs to happen.

No it doesn't.

Not until seriously pursuing those Americans who break the law by hiring them is done.

Then IF that doesn't work get back to me.

IOW, you don't give two ****s about the CV epidemic, you just want to cry about Trump. :lamo

And my attack was on Republican, who have NEVER gone after employers, even when they controlled the government.
