Coronavirus triggers swift bipartisan backlash against Trump

I was surprised when I read the names of a couple of the Senators criticising the Administration's response - or lack of response - to the spread of the virus.

Half of the Adminstration's request for funding comes from other health-related programs. It seems to be a growing practice for Trump - take money from an approved budget item and move it to some other issue. Those tax cuts are doing great - aren't they.

Face it, the ONLY thing that will cure Coronavirus is universal health care and something like 400 Trillion dollars in medical funding. If every American simply wraps themselves is sheets of $100 bills the world will be saved...but only by Democrats because these days even viruses are political.

Parroting Trump beautifully and dutifully.

(Not) stunning to see how no conservative or twump fellatrix understands how gov't works, what twump has actually done or how funding things happens.

Are you seeking a wholesale panic in this country? I listened to Trump. He is doing it reasonably.

No, but the experts are all telling us an outbreak in this country is inevitable. I'd rather be realistic than pin my hopes on the impossible.

Oh come off it. Every freaking year we have another "End Of The World" virus in the news. This one is merely the flavor of the month and making it a political issue is typical propaganda.

I don't think anyone expert in pandemics would agree with your analysis there - that it's "merely the flavor of the month." The world reaction to it is also completely inconsistent with your summary as well.

Apparently to you one soldier in Korea = already here.

As others have mentioned, you really should try to keep up with the news. I know that your opinion is that all of the Lamestream Librul Media does nothing but lie and it's only the real Americans like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity to are telling the TRUTH, but you really do need to get out of your bubble

'Simply inadequate' number of test kits so far

The United States has 60 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said.
  • 42 are former passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, the site of a recent outbreak and quarantine.
  • 3 are Americans recently repatriated from Wuhan, China, the center of the outbreak.
  • 1 patient at UC Davis Medical Center contracted the illness through unknown means.

Most of the other 14 patients either had recently been to China or are a spouse of someone who recently returned from China.

There's been a strain on testing capabilities since novel coronavirus was first detected in the United States last month.

Bureaucracy at its finest
The UC Davis patient was transferred from another California hospital February 19 with a suspected viral infection, the university hospital's letter said.

UC Davis said it requested CDC testing for Covid-19, the formal name of the virus, because neither Sacramento County nor the California Department of Public Health were conducting testing.

"Since the patient did not fit the existing CDC criteria for Covid-19, a test was not immediately administered," the letter says. "UC Davis Health does not control the testing process."

Anyway, everyone should calm down and let Trump and his administration do their jobs. They've been doing well so far.

Hahahahahaha oh, ****.

If this follows the same model as China - it will probably be worse, because China is actually trying to stop it, and we're not - 14 people you know (however distantly) in real life will die from this.

Everyone else on the planet is taking it seriously.

Trump has no idea what to do and is making things worse.

You need better sources of news. From today.

Coronavirus: 1st case of ‘community spread’ coronavirus being treated in Sacramento County

So it's likely he's the first of at least several in that area. The CDC wouldn't test him for several days because he had no known contacts and so the treatment team didn't have the right precautions in place. Hopefully none of the healthcare workers got sick, but what's concerning is no one knows how he caught it, or who he might have infected before getting really sick.

I discovered today that the patient, actually a woman, originally checked into a hospital less that a mile from where I live. At that point, she was sick enough to require a tube down her throat for oxygen.

I can see a political strategy in Trump naming Pence as the point man for the virus containment. If Pence fails, which seems likely, Trump can throw him under the bus and pick a more interesting running mate.

That's comforting to know your community has infected people, and you don't know who they are! Best of luck. My brother in law is also in that area, and he's pretty vulnerable to sickness, has a lot of chronic health problems, so I'm hoping it's not widespread.

Now you're making stuff up. What End of the World virus did we have last year? Really? Every year?

I am told that this is a normal "cold".

It doesn't look like a normal cold.

I find it interesting this person has no connection to China or knows anyone that does. Could the virus already be here and we've been misdiagnosing it? That kind of thing is not unusual when doctors are new to a pathogen or parasite.

In the aquaculture feild we had virus that was supposed to wipe out fish in the Great Lakes region and APHIS took drastic steps to stop it's spread. Turns out it's probably been here for at least 20 years, and only killed fish when they were stressed by other things such as environmental stresses, which occurred the year of the alleged outbreak. We haven't had a fish kill in at least 15 years.

while i doubt that any backlash is truly "bipartisan," shouldn't being an obnoxious public idiot for decades have triggered a backlash before now? asking for a friend.

I suffer terribly when I get a "normal cold." I'd rather have the flu than a cold believe it or not.

Well, some cuts have to made somewhere to pay for all of those family trips abroad and golf weekends. It's all a matter of priorities.
