Chuck Todd Blasted for Citing 'Brown Shirt' Quote on Bernie Bros

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd was called out by the Sanders campaign and blasted by other online critics for reading a conservative columnist’s quote that analogized the candidate’s “Bernie Bro” supporters to a “digital brown shirt brigade.”

On Monday’s Meet the Press Daily, Todd was discussing the state of the 2020 Democratic primary when he a cited column at The Bulwark by Jonathan V. Last entitled “Bernie Bros and the Internet of Beefs,” that had as it sub headline: “What if Bernie Sanders’ internet mobs are an asset, and not a liability?” Last argued that there is a moral difference between Sanders and Trump supporters, but that their alleged vicious online attacks are tactically the same.

The contempt the Mainstream Media has for Bernie's voting base is palpable. I couldn't imagine how terrible, and how miserable of a life that Chuck Todd leaves to see a voting base actually be enthusiastic about a candidate and immediately thinking they're Nazis.

Good point. Those ole hard core socialist regimes that Bernie has been a cheerleader for are absolute teddy bears. :roll: Venezuela, Cuba, the Soviet Union, none of them have human rights records that are remotely similar to history's horrific abusers.

When Trump talks about how the Unite The Right idiots in Charlottesville were great folks, he rightfully gets that hung around his neck. Bernie will have the same happen to him - but not with a few nice words about idiots marching with tikki torches, but about some of recent history's worst human-rights-atrocity-committing brutally murderous dictatorships. The difference, politically, is that Trump and his base are used to taking that kind of heat ("racist!" is an accusation that - thanks to overuse - has almost lost meaning). Bernie and his bros, are not. The OP is pretty tame, compared to what he is vulnerable to.

Bernie Bros don't know Bernie is being used by the right and Russia to help Trump win.

I'm not sure why this would be a surprise to Sanders' supporters for the Media to turn up the heat on a populist presidential candidate. :mrgreen:

No. No one made Bernie defend or celebrate those regimes. He chose to do that himself. He has no one to blame but himself when (if he gets the nomination) that association is hung around his neck.

Bernie and his people have only ever played the role of happy-insurgent in a field where no one wanted to really criticize their ideals, their connections, or their base. He's not ever really been raked over.... And it's not going to be pretty when (if) it happens.

Maybe they are ready for what is coming, should he won the nomination. But I doubt it.
 
One thing Bernie says that I agree with is the corporations receiving welfare on the taxpayers' dime. It is just wrong. But members of both parties vote for things because the lobbyists courting them that will fill their coffers with funds toward their next election.
