Doesn't halt the administration's latest assault on Medicaid (that likely falls to the courts), but the House officially registered its opposition today.

House votes to condemn Trump Medicaid block grant policy
The House on Tuesday passed a resolution officially condemning the Trump administration’s new Medicaid block grant plan.

The non-binding resolution won’t have much practical effect. It passed on a mostly party line vote of 224-189 and will almost certainly see no time in the GOP-controlled Senate.
Democrats argue the administration doesn’t have the authority to approve such drastic changes, and Medicaid advocates say the changes would hurt low-income people and invite states to cut costs and reduce coverage.

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas), one of the sponsors of the resolution, said the resolution is meant to “shine a light” on the administration’s attempts to gut the Affordable Care Act.

“They’ve been talking about these block grants in Texas for a while … everybody knows these are harmful,” Veasey said.

The vote represents the latest effort from Democrats attempting to put Republicans in a bind on health care.

Actually the vote represents the latest effort from the democrats to just stomp their feet and act like scolded children.

So.. tomayto - tomahto

You mean protect access to health care for the poor from this administration.

You mean protect access to health care for the poor from this administration.

Right wingers are akin to battered wives who say "you just don't know him like I do" They continuously vote for politicians licking their chops, actively working at dissolving Medicaid, Social Security benefits and basic temporary lifeline assistance programs like SNAP. The GOP has successfully mastered the art of the Vulcan mind trick.

Protect health care that apparently needs to still be adjusted, or completely rebuilt if it's to get any better?

Mind you, we still don't know exactly what all the administration wanted to do with the whole of this build for health care and the democrats decided to say "No" on precedent alone. Damning who it might actually help.

Yes, that seems like a very grownup way for a bunch of elected officials to act.

You may not pay attention to the administration’s positions on Medicaid, but many of us do. No one who’s paid attention to health policy in the Trump era is in the dark on what they’re trying to do.

So is this another one of those "I can see it, but you can't" claims?

If so, I'll have you know that I'm fully qualified to prescribe you something to help deal with these periodic delusions.

Question: Why he cuts?

Are you talking about the $920 billion Trump proposed to cut from Medicaid in his budget yesterday? Or are you unable to see that, too? Or are you just still not picking up on the pattern connecting all of these attacks on Medicaid?

Is fox blaming Democrats for the latest Republican effort to take health care away from poor people yet?

More like "everybody can see it but you won't".

So that's a none answer.. Once more.

Why the cuts?

Because he just does what republican donors have been conditioning conservatives to want for decades?

So I can just do the same as you again and claim just as much of democrats.
Which then could be thrown into what kind of unsavory people donate to both parties, and just what that might mean for the parties as a whole..

You're not really starting with a strong concept here.

How does a non binding resolution condemnation of Trump protect anyone from anything?

More pouty foot stomping.

If conservatives were sincere about assisting seniors and people with disabilities in need, they should join the effort to update the extremely inadequate (SSI) program. It’s means-tested and financed from general revenue, separate and apart from Social Security. Unlike Social Security, SSI’s goal is to alleviate the poverty of impoverished seniors and people with disabilities.
In addition, if conservative policymakers and advocates really cared and want to strengthen Social Security’s protections, they should join those who are fighting to expand benefits for everyone. Those benefits are extremely modest by virtually any standard.

Hmm... do you want expanded benefits for everyone or only expanded means-tested benefits for the elderly and disabled?

Important to note
The block grant will apply to the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion population’s “able-bodied” people. Advocates argue this gives an incentive for GOP governors in expansion states to roll back benefits and spending.

Anyone who is covered by traditional state Medicaid programs, disabled or eligible for long-term care is excluded. Other low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly adults, and people with disabilities will also be excluded.
Not saying it is right or wrong, just presenting some facts.

Ok if I were Trump I would immediately call a press conference, walk out on the stage with a copy of the House Resolution, tear it up in little pieces, laugh, and then walk away. I am petty like that.

House votes to condemn Trump Medicaid block grant policy

I don't understand.

Is the fear that local folks hate local folks and only the Federal Government can be trusted to care for local folks?

Judging by all of the insurance commissioners around the countries on state payrolls, it seems like Insurance is a state's rights issue.

Here in Indiana, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) seems to work pretty well and was engineered locally based on Medicaid. The people that I know that have used it were very well pleased by it.

Does a block grant automatically disqualify people who need it? I just don't see the need for a condemnation.

As you point out, states already tailor their Medicaid programs to meet local needs. That’s why Medicaid isn’t one program, it’s 51 state-based programs. The goal of cutting off federal matching funds is not to give Medicaid to the states (they already have it), it’s to choke off the program to force rollbacks of enrollment and coverage.

Because that juicy permanent tax cut that was given to the upper crust has to be paid for.

Nice guess, but seeing as the tax cuts actually gave back to more than just the "upper crust" as you put it. It pretty much blows a hole in that theory.
