[h=1]Tensions Are High, Extremists Are Expected to Attend. Here's What to Know About the Pro-Gun Rally in Richmond, Virginia [/h]What to Know About the Pro-Gun Rally in Richmond | Time
Officials in Richmond, Va., are taking security precautions as threats of violence from extremist groups are set to overshadow the traditional Lobby Day event where activists meet with state legislators to advocate for a wide range of policy changes.

This year’s Lobby Day on Monday, Jan. 20 comes amid Democratic legislators — who have majority in both the state’s House and Senate following 2019 elections — pushing through gun control measures that many gun proponents disagree with. These measures include background checks on all gun sales, a restriction of sales’ frequency, and allowing localities to ban firearms at public events.

Thousands of pro-gun rights protestors are expected to demonstrate in front of the Capitol building on Monday, and officials have learned of “credible” threats to public safety from out-of-state militias and hate groups.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's some things to keep in mind. First of all, it's the anniversary of Martin Luther King day. It's not just a coincidence that this rally falls on MLK commemoration day. FBI has made several arrests of suspected neo-Nazis before the rally. The rally has attracted the attention of an on-line extremist group called 'the base' which is the english translation of al-Qaeda. People are coming to this rally with weapons and explosives, prepared to cause trouble. The governor has banned all weapons, so it's going to be a total mess and it will make Charlottesville look like a Mr. Rogers tea party.

Trump has stoked up passions for this gun-rights activist rally with a tweet.

My hope is that Virginia learned from the mishandling of Charlottesville and has put into place measures to keep its citizens and politicians safe and to quell any threats to either.

And **** the president for fanning the flames.

Gun nuts are primarily one issue people. They live and die by their extremism on that issue.

Trump has "stoked?"

You mean stating the truth is now "stoking" violence?

The confirmation bias is strong in some.

There are 95 counties and 39 independent cities in Virginia, and the vast majority of those counties have declared themselves "Second Amendment Sanctuary" locales. That means they intend to refuse to enforce such un-Constitutional laws.

IMO they will rally in force, ANTIFAS and unwanted right-wing groups will also attend (no matter what Trump says or doesn't say), and someone will try to start trouble.

Eventually any laws passed will go through the Courts and up to SCOTUS. I intend to vote for Trump again, as IMHO if he wins he will then be able to appoint up to two more Justices. That would give 2nd-Amendment supporters seven votes re-confirming our 2nd Amendment rights.

tRump knows, or should know, that in the days leading up to a heated political rally that will be infested by extremists with not just loaded guns but potentially explosives at well, that word choice matters. tRump yet again chose his words...poorly.

But then again, that loose cannon has never been good at choosing his words carefully.

In this one -- Antifa will be marching WITH the other protestors. It looks as though everyone is concerned about not losing their rights.

Antifa Seven Hills, based in Richmond, are opposing the slew of gun bills introduced by the newly Democratic Legislature since November, because they say those types of laws are used primarily to criminalize poor people, minorities, and leftists — and to bolster law enforcement’s power.

Absolutely Trump is stoking violence, there's no question about that. Remember Michael Cohen's warning for Trump defenders? Mr. Trump did not directly tell me to lie to Congress. That’s not how he operates.

"In conversations we had during the campaign, at the same time I was actively negotiating in Russia for him, he would look me in the eye and tell me there’s no business in Russia and then go out and lie to the American people by saying the same thing. In his way, he was telling me to lie."

It's the same technique he's using via twitter for these neo-Nazis, white supremacist gun activists. Here's his veiled threat, right here..... "That's what happens when you vote for Democrats, they will take your guns away." If you can't see that's not a dog-whistle encouraging violence, then you're blind and in denial of truth.

And isn't this all so very exciting? Terrible things may happen, and some people are hopeful that they will. :(

No "dog whistle." Democrats ARE trying to take away 2nd Amendment rights. As clearly being shown in Virginia.

Despite clear rulings in the Supreme Court regarding bogus State laws under District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010), Democrats keep trying to limit those rights by hook or crook.

It's the death of a thousand cuts. Start with one type of so-called "reasonable gun control" after much hype about actually rare instances of "bad use," then move on to the next type using the same tactics.

Discount the tens if not hundreds of millions of Americans who do not use guns for bad purposes, by pointing to the miniscule number who do as justification for more and more limiting if not eventually outright disarming of the whole populace.

THOSE are the real "dog-whistles" used by your side of the effort.

There does seem to be a sense of giddy anticipation.

That bothers me regardless of which side of the aisle it's coming from.

Pro-gun, anti-gun, whatever, I firmly believe that people have the right to peacefully demonstrate for their cause. But the minute they even suggest that they will resort to violence if they don't get their way, they become a problem. And certainly not one to become giddy about.

I do not understand why anyone needs a gun in the US. Self defence? The US is one of the most heavily policed countries in the western world. They are among the best police in the world. City Police, transit police parks board police, armed sherrifs, State Police, FBI, DEA etc.
Invasion? Who? Canada, Mexico? The US has the greatest military power the world has ever seen. No one could invade the USA.
With all the shootings in the US, it is time the people decided the 2A is not a good idea in the 21st Century.
People talk about a new civil war in the US. Imagine what that would be like with all the citizens packing firearms.
Come on people. You are Americans. You are better than this. You are a wonderful generous nation. It is time for you to heal.

This is the people vs. the government. Your comparison to Charlottesville makes no sense.

Tear up the anti-gun laws. Problem solved.

If the Virginia legislature wasn't passing unconstitutional laws, there wouldn't even be a rally, much less violence. But, as long as Virginia insists on passing these unconstitutional laws, they can't bitch if there's violence.

Clearly it's a dog whistle, it's a call for violence.

The call for violence was made by the politicians who are going to vote in favor of these anti-gun laws. The violence will be directed at domestic enemies of The Constitution.

Repeal the 2nd amendment and make possession of a firearm a criminal offence (40 years in prison). Save thousands of lives a year.

Gun nuts are primarily one issue people. They live and die by their extremism on that issue.

so are those fueling the hatred. lets all hope for a peaceful outcome instead of extremists on both sides escalating into violence.

The first responsibility any government either local or federal, is to protect citizens. A one day weapons ban based on credible fears of gun violence won't kill gun rights activists or anyone else for that matter. Governor Northam has credible information that neither you nor anyone else has privilege to that indicates there is a threat to the safety of private citizens. It's his prerogative, his right and his responsibility to ban guns for the demonstration.

You left a couple of words out of the above...
The first responsibility any government either local or federal, is to protect citizens' CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

Protection of life and limb come before ANYTHING

Protection of life and limb come before ANYTHING

Then you are for the government protecting the guns rights of its citizens then?

Good.

The first responsibility of the government is to obey the law. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Do away with the proposed anti-gun laws and there would be no protest against the proposed anti-gun laws.

Northam doesn't jack ****. He's lying about having intel about threats so he can justify violating The Constitution. If not for his anti-gun agenda, there would be no rally. If there's violence, 100% of the blame belongs to the anti-gun pieces of **** in the Virginia state government.

Protection of life and limb come before ANYTHING

No, it doesn't. That's the excuse that every tin pot dictator has used to justify stripping the people of their rights.
