Chicago Violence: At Least 3 Killed, 7 Injured in Weekend Shootings

At least three people have been killed and seven others have sustained injuries in shootings across the city of Chicago so far this weekend, according to police.

At approximately 10:35 a.m. in the 3100 block of West Fulton, a 33-year-old man was walking northbound when an unknown offender ran up from behind the victim and shot him, according to Chicago police. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the spine and hip and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The Liberal will never address the psychotic behavior going on right in their backyard. They care more about the votes of these thugs than they do about the innocent lives being needlessly taken. And Chicago has spilled so much blood over the last 40 years I'm surprised the city isn't abandoned.

And before I hear the moans about gun control Chicago has some of the strictest policies on procuring a legal firearm, and yet the gun violence and overall crime rates are record numbers, annually.

I agree with you. It appears no one wants to get into this conversation because there really is no answer to stopping the shootings and killings in Chicago (or Baltimore, or St. Louis or L.A. or Oakland or Detroit, etc., etc. etc.). It's not gun control. It's not gun confiscation. What worked in New York City under Giuliani and Bloomberg (Stop and Frisk) is anathema to a city under Democrat control with an all-black city hall and board of supervisors. I think the futuristic movie "RoboCop" was right on target. No wonder big cities are having problems hiring new cops.

I'm betting most gang members don't vote. Every time a right winger goes on a rant about Chicago, we know Twump and the GOP had a bad day at the office. It's one of the go-to deflections.

And putting a picture of an African American in one's avatar doesn't cancel out the use of dog-whistle terms like 'thugs'.

Are you saying the OP isn't factual? Or, are you saying "right wingers" should not care when people are murdered -- if they're black?

I've been hearing about this issue for years now and there is some truth to the idea that the media (for the most part) ignores when black people are killed. Is that fair to blacks?

In my community, all the "thugs" are lily white. Attitudes like yours are part of the problem, not part of the solution, and as long as you're content to let certain groups of Americans die in silence -- they will continue to die.

When you start giving two ****s about gun crime in Republican controlled cities like Oklahoma City Oklahoma and Jacksonville Florida then you’ll have a leg to stand on. People are shot in those cities nearly every day.

Neither.

I'm saying all we ever heard about since Obama had been a senator from illinois is how horrible Chicago is and how it's full of 'thugs'. Back in '08 it was the dreaded "Chicago Political Machine TM". After Obama won they could be a bit more blatant and try to somehow hang all the street crime on him. Those consistently using that word give the game away. It's a whipping boy for the Right, frequently trucked out to vaguely support their stance on guns or remind us who the 'thugs' are. Yawn, we get it: Chicago has a gang problem.

In any case I was there for three days in November and never even saw a 'thug' or a gun.

The access to firearms is there. The current cost for a Firearm Owner Identification Card in Chicago is $10.00. Hardly prohibitive in the monetary sense. The restrictions from getting a FOID card are if an individual has a conviction for a felony or for an act of domestic violence, a conviction for assault or battery within the last five years, or being the subject of an order of protection.

Now, why I don't approve of having to get an FOID card (or restricting it to those who have served their time), those wanting a firearm have access to them. So obviously guns are not the answer to the violent crime. So again, try again.

The state with the highest rates of gun violence is Alaska, and It's also very easy to get guns there.

It also has a very low poverty rate and a low proportion of black residents.

Very interesting -- I was too. Three days this past November. I didn't see a gun or thug either - I was housed in a nice part of the city and enjoyed peaceful strolls around Lake Michigan.

But, back on topic -- I found that there is resistance to talking about gang crime from the Left, and I think it does inner-city dwellers a great disservice. I've often thought we need some sort of positive program that could be used to turn around misguided youth who are not yet hardened criminals. I think it should be a voluntary program, whereby a kid who gets in trouble for the first time could be sent to live with a family elsewhere in the US - a family who's been approved to Foster Care standards - a family who's willing to take the time necessary to try and show the child a different (better) side of life. In return, the family could earn tax breaks or something. It seems to me that these children only fall into gangs out of peer pressure, and removing them from the immediate situation might save many lives.

It's just an idea -- but one I think has some merit. I also think the parents of these young kids would be grateful if their children were to get an opportunity like that.
