When ever the government tightens it belt and tries to reign in spending anybody who received money is going to "suffer". Who is really going to be affected? Looks like those who aren't willing and are able to find work for themselves or at least say they are trying by filling out an application once a week. How many people will it effect? Not very many. And our society will benefit as whole from it. How effected are those people gonna be, well if most of them fill out applications then they wont be effected at all, the ones that don't will see their amount of food supply lowered. But its not like they are going to starve. They still will have plenty food.

Perhaps they can afford to cut food stamps because there are 3.6 million fewer food stamp recipients...because more people than ever today are WORKING.

That would only be the case if blacks were specifically targeted for cuts. The reality is that there are 3.6 million fewer food stamp recipients...and no identification that the cuts will prevent service to those that still need it.

And what I find amazing are the mind tricks that the GOP use on these folks to get them to vote for politicians who continue to stack the deck against them, constantly kicking them. I find that fascinating. It's like an an abused wife staying with her husband.

Maybe you missed the memo that the rule change applies only to able-bodied people with no dependents. So perhaps you’d like to explain why you think society should subsidize the existence of people, with no dependents, capable of work but who refuse to do so.

Well it disadvantages anyone poor, happy now? Trump hates all poor people, is that the position we're supposed to take? Hardly a ringing endorsement either is it. It's also probably true, but it does affect minorities, and he did ask them what they have to lose.

According to the Pew study cited above the percentage of African Americans who use food stamps is double that of whites (hispanics are at about 40% more), which should come as no surprise because they are economically less well off (also from the study, not my apparently dark racist soul). Therefore when Trump asked poor communities, particularly black communities, ;What have you got to lose?' Now we know the answer - a measure of economic support and food security.

So let's discuss the policy instead of calling each other names. I didn't 'bring race into this' because race and economics cannot really be separated anyway as long as there remains deep disparity along ethnic divisions.

The only losers from this arbitrary policy would be impoverished communities in republican strongholds like middle of nowhere Appalachia and Ohio where employment opportunities are non-existent besides running a meth lab. It'll hurt those people way more than a few city dwellers trying to live high on the hog off 4 bucks a day.

I agree with you. Blacks aren't the only ones on welfare. So many of those redneck trailer trash people who voted for Trump are on welfare, too.

I think that we can all agree that there are some people who are gaming the system.

They want food stamps so that they can spend their money on other items, such as cars, clothing, trips.

If I am not mistaken, food stamps were intended only for the truly needy.

I do not have the answer, but there must be some way to get food stamps to those who truly need them but to deny food stamps to those people who are lying.

Here in California, for example, some people claim that they are disabled so that they can park their cars in special reserved spaces. Because California is such a liberal state, there is no attempt to crack down on these liars. And the same goes for people who claim that their dogs are needed for emotional support, so they walk into stores where the staff are afraid to confront them.

I don’t care where they are. There shouldn’t be 3.7 million people who have no impediment but refuse to work collecting taxpayer funded benefits.

Can we calm down a bit and acknowledge: that a disproportionate number number of black people are among the very poor, a disproportionate number of super rich folks are white, that republicans and democrats tend to favor the people who tend to vote for them and finance their campaigns? Race plays a role, but while we will discuss race constantly, class is forbidden as a topic, cause that’s sooo European.
