Republicans Set Up 3 Fall Guys for Trump

November 7, 2019 at 9:48 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 107 Comments

“House Republicans’ latest plan to shield President Trump from impeachment is to focus on at least three deputies — Ambassador Gordon Sondland, Rudy Giuliani, and possibly acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney — who they say could have acted on their own to influence Ukraine policy,” the Washington Post reports.

“All three occupy a special place in the Ukraine narrative as the people in most direct contact with Trump. As Republicans argue that most of the testimony against Trump is based on faulty secondhand information, they are sowing doubts about whether Sondland, Giuliani and Mulvaney were actually representing the president or freelancing to pursue their own agendas. The GOP is effectively offering up the three to be fall guys.”

Well it would be SOP for trump, however only a fool would believe that trump was not pulling the strings, particularly after the call...

Been saying from day 1 Rudy was the fall guy.

Maybe they did know nothing maybe they didn't, but all roads lead to Rudy. All Presidents seem to have their in-house foil/thorn in their side. For Trump it is Rudy. For Obama it was Valerie Jarrett. For W., it was his VP.

Anyone and everyone who works for Trump can/should expect to be the fall guy. If it comes down to it Trump will sell his own children down the river. He is loyal to know one.

And if he wasn't he's an idiot for not knowing this was going on; it looks bad either way. I think Trump knew and had a "just get it done" mentality thinking this would be no different than pulling some strings in a business deal.

Trump would sell out his own wife and kids if it meant him not getting charged with a crime.

The one good thing that has come from a Trump presidency is that anyone in Trump's circle now knows they better cover their asses at ALL TIMES because while Trump requires complete loyalty to Donald Trump, Trump is loyal to ABSOLUTELY NO ONE but HIMSELF.

Hopefully that will cause any one with a brain to NEVER do business with Trump who is a liar and a cheat.

House Republicans should try coordinating with the White House. The White House is shielding Mulvaney using executive privilege, admitting that far from being a rogue operator, what Mulvaney did he did at the President's behest. Meanwhile, Trump released notes of himself telling Zelensky that Rudy was his man in Ukraine. And Sondland was on the phone with the President at critical junctures of the scheme.

"Everybody but Trump did it" is laughable on its face.

It's a big reason why IMO he needs to be impeached. He's never transitioned from corrupt owner of a business where he's the literal dictator of his fiefdom and what he says must be done in a world where corruption is fine, to POTUS.

Sometimes he seems genuinely confused that's it's not a one man show. His admiration of dictators is real, as is his contempt for laws, or congress, or the courts, that constrain him in any way.

It's a concern I had the moment the arguments that him being a businessman meant he was automatically qualified for POTUS. I can see the shared skill sets if a businessperson managed a corporation where their ability to manage complex group dynamics was really tested and had proven success. Trump doesn't have that level of experience since his businesses haven't been structured that way. All of this is evident in the way he communicates and behaves in terms of policy implementation.
