Virginia election results: Democrats just pulled off a huge win - Vox

After 20 years of Democrats being out of power in the Virginia House of Delegates, a blue wave has swept the state capitol in Richmond.

Democrats pulled off a major win on Tuesday night, taking both the state House and state Senate. This ensures a trifecta: Democrats will have a majority in both legislative chambers, and the party is led in the state by Gov. Ralph Northam. Decision Desk called both races as of 9:30 pm Tuesday.

Tuesday’s elections were further evidence that once-purple Virginia is trending more and more solidly blue. Republicans have not won a statewide political office since 2009, but had hung onto power in the state legislature in part due to past redistricting that a court deemed a racial gerrymander. (The court ordered districts redrawn ahead of the 2019 election.)

The good guys are back in charge. Time to redistrict against the criminal GOP and make it easier for people to vote. I love it when Democratic morals win out over GOP fascism!

Don't know anything about Virginia politics, but from reading what you posted, it appears this win by the Dems is the result of winning a court case. shrug... Y'all had better hope the other side doesn't win a future court case, since that seems to be the way to go in that state.

The “court case” they one (which you dismissed without actually knowing anything about it), was one of several brought in several states to challenge the GOP district map in each state.

These maps were all drawn as a concerted national effort by the RNC and its consultants to design electoral districts in states so that Democratic votes would be concentrated in small districts, or disspaited in large ones.

Thus, the GOP was able to control the Virginia General Assemply with 51 votes when they LOST by 200,000 votes in the last election.

The courts fixed that.

You mean the court case that ruled the Republicans illegally gerrymandered Virginia? Are you conceding the only way Republicans can win is by cheating our democracy?

Such drama. Virginia went for the dems last 3 presidential elections, its top 3 state offices are dems, and both its senators are dems. The only thing shocking is it took them this long to do it.

Feel free to gerrymander away. It won't make much difference because of the urban/rural divide in the state.

The democrats control the majority of the House seats. What exactly is this criminal act that will be cured by redistricting?
