Democrat Andy Beshear just unseated Kentucky's Trump-loving governor Matt Bevin

Re: Democrat Andy Beshear just unseated Kentucky’s Trump-loving governor Matt Bevin

Something I didn't know: With KY, Dems have now flipped 9 statehouses under Trump. Nine! I honestly didn't realize it was that many.

I looks like it will be going into a recount. Bevins said if his opponent won he wishes him the best. But Bevins has not conceded.
With only 5,500 difference, I think the loser has to challenge it.

What part of the USA do you live in? being 25 miles from KY, our local news channels cater as much to NKy as they do Cincinnati.

I believe Beshear's father was a very popular governor a few years ago. Bevin's popularity was in the 30's just last month. The idea that this race is still too close to call at 49-49 says to me Trump's rally got the vote out.

While many of us find the KY race fascinating, the real election will be played out tonight, hidden from us all. Over the next few days, the votes will be registering in Mitch McConnell's mind. The vote counting will have nothing to do with Bevin, but will have to do with the Republican prospects in 2020, namely in the Senate.

Trump could not push Bevin over the top, even getting so desperate as to tell Kentuckians that Trump was on the ballot. Bevin tried to tie Beshear to impeachment. None of this worked. Trump failed. His political capital account perhaps like his real balance sheet, much smaller than he led us to believe.

Will Mitch McConnell start worrying about his own personal prospects in Kentucky? More globally, will he begin to wonder if retention of the Senate is more likely without Trump at the top of the ticket? McConnell is starting to see that Exit sign ahead. Its big and bold in its reflective tape. The exit (a Trumpless Republican ticket in 2020) would be easy as it is well teed up by his Democratic colleagues. Will he seriously think about taking it?

Bevin was down 10 points a few months ago. But for the libertarian (28K votes-way more than the margin) he most likely would have won

I ascribe to the thinking that if you can't draw the votes, you don't deserve to win.

A 3rd party taking some means your offering wasn't good enough for those voters, so if you lose as a result it's your fault.

Kentucky

Donald Trump 1,202,971 62.52%
Hillary Clinton 628,854 32.68%

I agree Chomsky. Kentucky does not have an automatic recount. But Bevin after all the votes are counted can first call for a final count of all the votes to insure they are accurate. If the votes continue to go down after that then he is justified in requesting a recount.

what exactly is the objective damage you speak of. I am hoping Trump replaces at least two more justices on the supreme court-maybe three since CT might well retire. That would be a good check against Democrats hatred of certain rights

Around 11,000 fact checked lies to the American populace and counting, and a quid pro quo with a foreign country to obtain/defame political adversaries for two examples. Unless, of course, you don't think lying to the American populace in mass quantities is objectively' a bad thing. If so, you retain the prerogative to state so on record here at DP.

the first GOP AG in 70 years (an African American, Cameron) apparently was the hand picked choice of Turtleman (no relation). And he won 58% of the vote. So KY is a mixed bag for either party-Beshear, the son of a popular former governor, was way up (Bevin really pissed off the teachers' unions) a few months ago-sometimes all of the polling results had Beshear double digits up.

Trump won Ky by 30 points in 2016, this is a very red state. This is a bad omen for repubs in 2020

NBC just called it for Beshear

And a Black Republican won Attorney General.

What exactly is the objective damage. All major politicians have lied or told half truths or broke promises (Read my lips, no new taxes, "you can keep your doctor" and "I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky)

first GOP winner in that office in over 70 years and the hand picked choice of M2

Well, under Trump, we have the first dem Senator in decades in AZ. And, after the next election...we will have 2 dem senators. People just don't like the fake appointed runner up loser senator McSally.

Think this could result in more R Senate votes for impeachment?

OK...So you're now on record as claiming when POTUS lies to the American populace, in your mind, that is not 'objectively damaging' to the Office of the Presidency, or the USA's international credibility at all....glad that is on record for possible future reference. Red herring/strawman also duly noted.

Well it looks like it's a very tight race, and Bevin is not conceding just yet. So we'll see how it develops, but if current projections hold, it does seem that the Dems will have flipped that seat. We'll see what they do with it. But it doesn't bode well for Trump to have a state that voted so overwhelming for him in the election not get the vote out for one of his candidates.

are you talking about the nation or the president? I care about the country. How have you been damaged?

According to NBC, Ky law states that only a judge can order a recount; therefore, Bevins will have to take it to court.

a local election expert was just interviewed and he claimed that Beshear was way ahead but Trump's rally made it close. On top of that, the dems lost the AGs office for the first time since TRUMAN was president. Bevin pissed off the teachers' unions big time and the libertarian took 28K of the votes-and this same expert noted that if Hicks was not in the race, Bevin would have won

I wouldn't see KY as predicting much of anything

CBS claims he has to request it. I have no idea which one is right . But it certainly is not automatic like it is in some other states when its this close, I have no idea how many absentee ballots are still uncounted-if any

Yeah, the Dems tried to blame third parties when Hillary lost too. But it's not the case. People need to vote for whom they believe are the best candidate and best represents their own platform. Kentucky is a big red state, and not even Trump could save Bevin. Regardless, it's still a disturbing trend for Trump's overall popularity.

Are you now going on record as not understanding POTUS= President of the United States, and 'American populace'= citizenry of our nation ? When the nation is damaged, the citizenry is 'objectively' damaged.

I know he was way up in the polls recently. But look at the results after a Trump campaign on Bevin's half it is now a statistical tie.

I on the other hand am very sorry to see what happened in Virginia tonight someplace Trump did not go. It looks like Republicans can hang it up on Virginia.

you are evading the question-what objective harm have you or the country suffered that you were complaining about

Yeah VA seems to be getting more and more leftwing.
