House Democratic leaders are walking back a planned vote Thursday that would officially endorse impeachment proceedings and say that the resolution would merely address the process of holding public hearings on the matter.



“This is not an impeachment resolution,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters Tuesday morning. “I don’t know what an impeachment resolution is.”


House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters Monday that the planned vote was “not an impeachment resolution.”

Nixon and Clinton impeachments started with crimes... Trump... no crime.

Seems they fear something and seek to extend their Soviet styled Kangaroo Court. From what I learned yesterday in the DP polls, this will please many Leftists.

Pelosi was trying to balance on a fence - giving both the 'impeach' and 'don't impeach' democrats something they could support. Apparently the moderate / establishment types got cold feet, and she lost the votes.

Big embarrassment for Pelosi. She's scrambling now.
 
Right wingers literally think you have to vote on an article of impeachment before you can legally investigate the alleged crime, it's ****ing bizarre.

It appears you have already exonerated Trump before the investigation is done. Remember, on this Ukraine scandal, there is no special counsel. The committees are doing all the heavy lifting. From what I am seeing, a bribery/extortion case is getting clearer and clearer every day. Abuse of power is impeachable.

I have a suggestion for all you conservative Trump worshipers, STFU until all the evidence is gathered and then you can attempt a worthwhile defense. It won't work, but it's worth a try to save your cult.

You should heed your own advice considering you’ve already made a judgement without knowing any more than the Trump supported for.

The smart money is on waiting to see the evidence Schiff’s committee presents, not leaked little snippets or uncorroborated statements.

What alleged crime? There is no crime. They are fishing and coming up with old boots. And, they are now looking like communists. At least the leadership of the Democrats. I say, keep on going because Trump will never be removed from office and will win by a landslide in 2020 with Republicans taking back the House and getting more representation in the Senate. Keep on looking like fools.

That will never happen. Schiff has nothing or we would already have had the impeachment vote. There is nothing. Shifty Schiff knows it. Nancy knows it and yet they keep trying to look like they are morally superior to everyone.

Abuse of Power and Obstruction if Justice to name just two, before it is said and done I have no doubt more will be added. Will the Senate convict, nope, they don't have the backbone, will the People have their say in 12 months, count on it.

I have no idea. I am not the OP. As of a few hours ago, it was still scheduled for 10:30 and is a vote to lay out the procedures going forward as opposed to anything having to do with Trump.

There's a link to the article in the OP. Democrat leaders are re-clarifying that this is NOT an impeachment resolution, but a vote on rules if an impeachment process takes place. Apparently some representatives in competitive districts got nervous.

Interestingly, the house majority leader 'doesn't know what an impeachment resolution is' - I'm surprised he hasn't looked into the process.

How did you arrive at that conclusion? Not only is the article misleading because nothing was ever "walked back" at all, but Pelosi has the votes. She's had them for weeks.

Abuse of power is an opinion, not a crime. Where did the obstruction of justice happen? Be specific beyond just levying a claim.

Read the article.

This was being promoted as a vote on an impeachment inquiry by the left. It's obviously an attempt to walk a fine line and make both establishment and the fringe left happy. The fringe left was calling it a move toward impeachment, and Republicans were excited to get Democrats on the record. Pelosi had to 'walk back' the comments, stating it was NOT an impeachment vote, because Democrats in competitive districts want to be able to say 'it's just about ensuring a fair process'.
