Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced an investigation into the case of a 7-year-old whose mother plans to transition him to a girl against his father’s wishes.

Abbott tweeted that the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is looking into details of James Younger’s case. A judge is expected to make a final verdict in the court case Thursday.

Jeff Younger said his son is happy being a boy and does not desire to be a girl, according to The Texan. James Younger’s pediatrician mother, Anne Georgulas, as well as counselors and therapists who testified on her behalf, told the court that the 7-year-old is transgender and had expressed to each of them that he wished he were a girl.

A Texas jury decided Monday that Jeff Younger cannot stop James Younger’s social gender transition to a girl. A social transition refers to when a person begins to publicly conform to the opposite gender, according to Planned Parenthood.

Georgulas said her child’s gender identity should be affirmed by wearing dresses, being treated as a girl and being called “Luna,” according to The Texan.

The jury decided Monday that Georgulas should receive sole managing guardianship of James Younger and his twin brother Jude Younger.

Conservatives spoke out on Twitter in defense of Jeff Younger and his desire to prevent Georgulas from transitioning James Younger following the Monday verdict. Neither Jeff Younger nor his legal representation responded to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Every conservative on Twitter should be tweeting about the James Younger case today. If you’re a conservative and you’re not using your platform to draw attention to a case like this, what the hell are you doing,” conservative commentator Matt Walsh tweeted Tuesday with the hashtag “#ProtectJamesYounger.”

Georgulas’ legal representation, Texas lawyers Jessica Hall Janicek and Laura Hayes, told the DCNF in a statement Wednesday that a “completely distorted and untrue version of events in this case has been circling the media.”

“It has resulted in threats, harassment, and even vandalism of my client’s property,” the lawyers told the DCNF. “The pleadings in this case are available online, including, but not limited to, the Court’s prior annulment proceedings and the numerous findings of fraud that the Court made in this case against Mr. Younger.”

The lawyers said their client “is being viciously attacked and threatened by complete strangers based on false and untrue statements.”

“That is unacceptable,” they added. “We respectfully request that before the media reports on this case, a thorough investigation is completed into the actual facts and truth of the situation.”

Absolutely justified. 7 years old is far too young for a decision like that. I totally, 100% support this kid acting like any gender that makes him happy, but transitioning is a serious decision that only a legal adult can make for her or himself.
 
This crap is getting ridiculous.

7 years old is way too young to be making this kind of irreversible decision for a kid. Mom has some serious issues.

Good grief. Why do people leap to conclusions, without even trying to get the facts, in so many threads about the same thing no less?

There are no medical interventions whatsoever for this child at this time. There is no "transition" happening whatsoever. They won't even consider that until the start of puberty.

No one is forcing this child to do anything. The child started showing signs of gender dysphoria, so the mother went to therapists. At the trial, multiple therapists indicated that the best approach was to take the child's own preferences seriously. A Texas jury even sided with the mother, recommending full custody.

Abbott is just grandstanding for the gradually dwindling Red Hats.

She's doing no such thing. The mother is working with therapists, and following their recommendations. There is no medical intervention whatsoever happening at this time. Yeesh.

Actually mom wants to put him on Puberty blockers beginning at age 8 or 9 yrs old

You could probably tell a 3 year old that they are a dog and they might eventually believe it.

Are there any data protection laws in Texas? I know that if a politician was aware of an ongoing child protection investigation, it would be a serious criminal offence for them to publish the details on social media (and no, the fact the custody case has been reported doesn’t change that).

This isn't about Republicans or Democrats; it's about the welfare of a child. And I'm glad that Governor Abbott has stepped up.

No, she doesn't. That was made very clear in court.

Janicek and Hayes have also made a point to emphasize that the mother is not seeking a medical transition, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones — a treatment that Younger is concerned will be given in the near future.

Puberty blockers are used to block the production of testosterone or estrogen to delay or prevent the development of secondary sex characteristics (e.g. facial hair, voice, breasts, etc.).

Cross-sex hormone therapy is used next to administer testosterone to females or estrogen to males in an attempt to induce the development of secondary sex characteristics of their opposite biological sex. Transgender individuals must continue this treatment for life.

Dr. Daniel Shumer, an endocrinologist (a doctor specializing in hormones) called by the mother’s lawyers to testify, said that puberty blockers are used “to buy some time” for those at the start of puberty so that they and their parents can decide if a full medical transition should be made.

Shumer said that puberty blockers are only ever first used at the beginning of puberty, which for boys is marked by the “Tanner stages of sexual development” and not age. He said that on average, this occurs around age 11 ½ for boys.

Although Janicek and Hayes argued that the mother did not intend to use puberty blockers prior to puberty, no one has stated that she would not be open to using them when James begins puberty.

"Odeneal has also repeatedly contended that Georgulas does intend to pursue a medical gender transition for James, citing medical records that note James would be referred to doctors at the GENecis clinic for puberty suppression once he reached eight or nine years old."
