Shields and Brooks on Trump’s Syria ‘blunder,’ impeachment outlook

Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks join Judy Woodruff to discuss the week’s political news, including how the impeachment inquiry is affecting President Trump's support among Republicans, fallout from Trump's handling of northern Syria and the military advance by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the changing dynamics of the 2020 presidential race

Kind of a shame the show went to absolute hell after the addicted maniac left and Jackass arrived. It's like when Limbaugh was good on Oxy. Remember when TV was good?

Now that you've assuaged my id and ego, I'd be willing to pay the subject a moment. What's your take on the material in the OP?

I like to watch these two because they seem to be just regular guys discussing the week's news. I agree with a lot they have to say, and it was good to be reminded that some republicans were more in support of impeachment and had trouble defending everything Trump was saying and doing on a daily basis. They are slow to go against him though, because they are selfishly putting their political careers in the republican party over country.

I agree that what Trump did in Turkey was harmful to our national interests and the honor and trust of the United States, it seemed to benefit Russia and Turkey more than our country. I would rather not see standing armies in so many other areas of the world and would like to see our troops come home, but the abrupt way it was done, to me, was shameful. I wonder if Trump has more loyalty to Russia, Saudi Arabia, China, etc. I agree with them that Trump is out of control and needs to be reeled in.

I also think Mayor Pete and Amy Klobuchar did well in the debate, I missed the previous one, I was out of town. I initially felt that Biden would be the best candidate to win against Trump, because he's not as far left as Sanders and Warren and that turns off a lot of voters, IMO. But, I have to say, his performances in the debates are definitely lacking and he appears to be weaker than I first thought. I've never been a really politically minded person, although I do vote and try to research the issues and candidates beforehand. This is the first political forum I've ever joined, and I'm basically here to learn, hear different views of real people, and share any info I come across that may interest others.

Brooks and Shields? I get better world politics insights from Cheech and Chong.

Well, we all have the freedom to choose where we get our political insights from, I like to use various MSM like Fox and NBC, and also alternative sources. If you feel you get better insights from Cheech and Chong, then good for you. Personally I enjoyed a couple of their comedy movies decades ago, and don't look to them as a source for political commentary. I think Chong may be a Trump supporter, maybe that's why they're your go to?

God damn, kids! Get of my lawn!!

At least 1 new thread per day should be started for each American's opinion on Trump.

Thomas Chong did hard time for weed possession. We need to support outspoken people like him and the Democracy protesters in Hong Kong. I don't care what the NBA thinks.
