I guess I'm the Meryl Streep of generals': Mattis jokes about Trump calling him overrated

1. I always love watching the gentle humor at the Al Smith dinners (shown on C-SPAN).

2. I am sorry that President Trump does not attend those dinners or the Washington correspondents' dinners.

3. Although I would be honored to vote for President Trump again, I acknowledge that he has no sense of humor and is very thin-skinned.

4. I believe, however, that General Mattis was wrong to (even humorously) poke fun at the President because (a) he was the Defense Secretary and owed that position to the person who appointed him and (b) even retired military should not be ridiculing the Commander-in-Chief.

5. I would not be surprised if General Mattis one day runs for president. Maybe that was why he spoke out.

I guess my opinion on that is what goes around comes around. Trump didn't show any respect for Mattis, or his service, and fired him in a way intended to be insulting and degrading to Mattis. Since then he's continued with a pattern of disrespecting Mattis and everyone else who doesn't toe the Trump line.

It might be nice to take the higher ground, but a President who doesn't respect others, disparages and insults them, isn't owed the respect he routinely fails to extend to others.

so you don't care that trump is incompetent, dishonest, thin skinned, a complete scumbag and is doing whatever Putin wants him to, its only about ideology. You realize that your complete lack of accountability is not only is the opposite of what conservatives pretend to stand for but also undermines democracy. Anyhoo, I have to ask, is deficit reduction a part of your ideology?

I do not think that the Dems should be too self-righteous regarding the Trump - Putin "friendship."

After all, it was the Dems who abandoned Chiang Kai-shek after World War II and became supportive of the Communist "agrarian reformers," who have now been the dictators of China for 70 years.

Furthermore, I do not think that any President of the United States of America should ever be publicly labeled a "sc*mb*g."

Regarding deficit reduction, I do not know enough about the topic to comment.

Have a nice day!

If only you had a shred of proof.

oh "American", see how you are unable to acknowledge that Mattis used trump's own words to make him look foolish. You know he did, its why you have to post some silly deflection. What drives you to do that?

Like you claiming that Trump is working for Putin without proof. Why don't you go back to that old thread where you blame Bush for the housing bubble? It's a joke.

You do realize that your imaginary “ something something Chiang Kai-shek both sides” narrative is just you admitting there is something nefarious about trump’s “friendship” with putin. So that's now two things that should preclude you from "proudly" voting for him.

Trump did speak at an Al Smith dinner several years ago and he was a total bringdown, Just lashing out erratically, as is his wont.

If only you had a shred of proof.

er uh “American”, here’s a shred. Trump believes Putin over American intelligence agencies

"I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it," Trump tweeted at the time. "Now it is time to move forward in working constructively with Russia!"

Trump has repeatedly said that he believes Putin’s claim that Russia did not interfere in the 2016 election, contradicting U.S. intelligence assessments.

Why don't you go back to that old thread where you blame Bush for the housing bubble? It's a joke.

I see my Bush Mortgage Bubble thread continues to live rent free in your head. It just seems that when a conservative really really really wants to believe something and the facts prove them wrong, they just get angry at the facts. And you’re still angry at the facts I posted that prove Bush is responsible for the Bush Mortgage Bubble. Anyhoo, when you’re finished cutting and running from this thread, you should swing by that thread and post “nuh uh” again. maybe this time it’ll work.

If only you had a shred of proof.

Russian troops now occupying the same patch of Northern Syria once occupied by US Special Forces two weeks ago slip by ya? It dont prove Trump is owned by Putin, but goes a long way in proving Trump dont know squat about Geo Politics. But then again, nor do most of his supporters.

Thanks again for your always interesting comments.

I disagree with them, but as a good American, I defend your right to express them.

I wish that Facebook and Twitter (both of which this computer illiterate "senior citizen" has never visited) believed as strongly as I do in the First Amendment.

Have a nice day!

Parser, your post has nothing to do with my post. My post was about two things you admit that completely disqualify trump from being considered a good president and yet you'd still proudly vote for him. Just an fyi, your join date, out of date conservative narratives (conservatives don't say " I defend your right to express them" anymore), your "Chiang Kai-shek" spiel (yea, Chiang Kai-shek is probably a bigger part of the Russian curriculum) and clearly stating "deficits" exceed your capability make me suspect you are not really who you say you are. But the good news is your complete and total deflection from my post is as conservative as it gets.
