A lot of Americans are hurting under the Trump administration, regardless of Trump's campaign promises.

‘He lied.’ Ohio voters struggle after Trump promised jobs

LORDSTOWN, Ohio — Voters in industrial northeast Ohio have not forgotten a particular promise President Donald Trump made when he visited the region soon after taking office. Manufacturing jobs are “all coming back,” Trump said. “Don’t move. Don’t sell your house.”

“He lied,” said Trish Amato, who worked at a General Motors plant in the area that stopped production earlier this year. “He told everybody it’s all coming back,” said Amato. “It’s not. It’s harder and harder to find a job.”

Amato, who voted for Trump in 2016 but is having misgivings about supporting him next year, is one of hundreds of workers at the Lordstown plant who lost their jobs, and in many cases sold their homes and left the region, since Trump’s speech in Youngstown in mid-2017.

Trump’s economic promises helped him carry Ohio in 2016, and the economy will be a major factor in next year’s presidential race. But as voters in this critical swing state state turn their attention to the 2020 election, many say they’re increasingly frustrated with Trump’s record on economic issues, including his trade policy and attacks on organized labor.

“We can’t go back in time to make [the economy] what it had been before,” Wilson said.

Yet Trump campaigned on a promise to do exactly that, Wilson said, creating unusually high expectations that have been hard to fulfill in office. “Trump came in and said, ‘I’m going to fix these things.’ And there was a belief that he would.”

The auto sector isn’t the only part of the Ohio economy facing uncertainty under Trump. The president’s trade war with China has hit the state’s agriculture industry hard, particularly farmers struggling under costly Chinese tariffs on U.S. soybeans and other goods.

“The largest crop that Ohio grows by acres is soy beans, and that’s the commodity that’s been hit the hardest by the trade wars initiated by President Trump,” said Joe Logan, the president of the Ohio Farmers Union.

There will only be a few Trump-to-Democratic-candidate voters in 2020. But PA-WI-MI were razor-thin in 2016, and that may be all the Democratic candidate needs.

Beta's lets seize guns is going to hurt whomever is the Democrat selection in that those states given the howling approval of that claim by Beta and few of the other members of the clown show actually denouncing it. True, some like Klobushar basically said it was ill-chosen (before the election but not after it) but as the Delaware Senator noted,The Democrat party is going to get crucified by Beta's confiscation wet dreams.

Plenty of slurs and absolutely no substance.
You are dismissed. :2wave:

Don't underestimate the dislike of trump, there is always the SC to uhold our right to bear arms.

Beta? Someone is in melt down mode.:lamo

And what exactly does that mean? That you are going to pretend I didn't write something? I realize you don't understand blue collar voters in these states. That moron from Texas helped Trump immeasurably with his silly hard on based on gun hatred and a need to get his pathetic status some press. But as Senator Coons (D-Delaware) noted, Beta's sewage is going to be used by pro rights advocates for years.

Hopefully the supremes will start reaming out anti gun state legislatures. Which will help Trump. However, a massive decision striking down most of the stupid state laws could actually hurt Trump, just as Heller hurt McCain

Speak for yourself. I am laughing at Beta's idiocy and what it is going to do to the anti gun party

We shall see, I think a change is coming and it is best to be ready for it. I sometimes miss the good old days but only parts if it.

4.3 million Obama 2012 voters simply sat 2016 out.

Lets get those people back and stop worrying about wishy-washy swing voters, who were ignorant to vote for Trump to begin with.

give us your best predictions of what changes are coming

Riiight, because Trump's pledge to overturn Roe, have more trade wars, build walls the majority don't want, overturn the ACA, separate migrant families, and the other thirty massively unpopular things he's done is going to be sooo popular in those states.

Not to mention the fact that the majority of the public wants new gun control measures, and Trump has pledged to support the very unpopular NRA.

Too glommy for this site, and never goes over well on this site. Plain and simple I am a long term Prepper. Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst.

Clinton told all of us after his idiotic gun ban in 94, that the voters really wanted that stupidity passed. A few months later, the Dems suffered a major ass-kicking in the 94 midterms-which Clinton admitted was due to his idiotic nonsense

None.

Don't worry.

Your side won a long time ago.

I think Casper's views are more in line with reality than yours. My side will win when the tenth amendment is enforced the way the founders intended

Or it may not be. The GOP base is going to be fired up over this impeachment nonsense. It is showing in his fundraising.

I suspect lots of those who sat out were blacks who voted for Obama purely for that reason. In Ohio, long time GOP congressman Steve Chabot lost a narrow race to a democrat, in 2008. I remember talking to Steve and he was confident he would beat the guy easily in 2010 because he figured lots of Obama voters wouldn't be at the polls in 2010 since Obama wasn't on the ticket. He was right. And in 2012, the district had changed and he won again even with those voters back at the polls.

Yeah, this post really speaks for itself.

You should actually check the polling data-which of course would take a bit more effort than trying to insinuate the liberal lazy route of "racism"

Normally, I'd be curious to figure out what you're on about ... but I'm not.

Now you're going back to 1994? JFC, you really need to wake-up.

Demographics have changed and so has public opinion, no matter how much you want to deny it.

same sort of polls in 94.

Current Ohio unemployment rate 4.1%.

Julian Castro wrong about job losses in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania | PolitiFact

The latest official release state-by-state employment trends is current through August 2019. Here’s what you get if you compare the August 2019 figures to the July 2019 figures:

Ohio: A gain of 3,700 jobs.

here’s the change for the full-year period between August 2018 and August 2019:
Ohio: A gain of 24,800 jobs.

So while Trump may lose some votes from those who lost their jobs, he'll no doubt, gain a lot more because of the good economy.
