A British family on vacation accidentally drove into the U.S. They’ve spent days detained with their

Dude, this isn't the 1950's anymore... I use technology less than just about anybody I know and even I know about Google Maps/Directions... not to mention just a plain old map.

What time warp are you in? Maps?

Aside: The tourists were pulled over in BC and ended up in PA? I get that right?

What's the big deal? They came into the country illegally and were arrested. We arrest illegal immigrants all the time.

Do you think they deserved special treatment?

You can always immigrate, if you hate us so much.

The OPer is white and his message is raging that white Brits were not treated to Democratic Party special white privilege treatment. If they were in charge, the Democratic officials would understand that white people are never to be treated like those other people.

From the start thru today, it is the Democratic Party that is the party of racism and social divisions.

I took home a doe I road killed once. Only a front quarter was busted up.

I liked that part too... "gee officer, an animal went in front of us right at this specific intersection that MADE US turn onto a different road and that we did not know where it lead, but we continued driving down the road anyway"... What the ****?

Well, ya never know. It is rutting season for deer...;)

Yeah, Google Maps App. I hit that then speak the destination and it plots out the best course and the chick voice tells me when to turn where, how long it will take and how far away it is... Is that old, or something? I just started using it this last January when I was in California.

I think so... unless it was some dirt road in the forest I find it hard to believe that they crossed the border without knowing it.

Something is "off" with this story. It's too light on details and too heavy on politics.

Does not pass the smell test. Just sayin'...

It might have been a tad more believable without the superfluous hyperbolic proclamations throughout every single sentence coming from the "mother".

Waze it!

“.......recalculating.”

And she called it freezing and filthy... but nobody has commented on the picture of the place that I posted... Henry was here for a bit too... but bailed.

How is that different from google maps?

It does not seem to have the 2D/3D function OR the map to satellite image function.

It's crowd sourced and I find it's very informative about traffic jams and accidents and the like. I also find it quite responsive to alterations in routes, again because of the crowd sourcing.

I'd like to know how she knows what a dead dog smells like.

CBP officials disputed the family’s version of events and said the Connors were spotted via video surveillance “slowly and deliberately driving through a ditch onto Boundary Road in Blaine, Washington” between parallel roadways on the U.S. and Canadian sides. The roads are not connected by cross streets, and the only legal way to traverse between the countries is at staffed border stations throughout the region. Cambria could not immediately be reached Tuesday for comment.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the case, said the family — four adults and three small children — were in possession of $16,000 in cash at the time of their arrest. “Attempts were made to return the individuals to Canada, however, Canada refused to allow their return and two attempts to contact the United Kingdom consulate were unsuccessful,” the CBP statement read. The CBP official said it was not clear why Canada refused to let the family back into the country. At that point, the official said, “by law and procedure we have to turn them over to ICE,” referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

That was 4 years ago. Before Donald Trump was elected and decided that 3 month old babies deserve to go to jail. Reports on that facility since then have consistently been that conditions are inhumane and it’s worth noting that Governor of Pennsylvania found those reports credible enough to try and revoke their state license.

I am asking questions because I am pretty ignorant of technology, in general. So... doesn't Google Maps/Directions do that too? I see the green traffic and red traffic lines on the map right now... Is Waze a carpooling thing? I see that on there a few times.

Can you share the reports that state such?

Well that certainly destroys some narratives here.

I haven't used Google maps for several years, so pardon me if I'm not sure of their current technology. Waze gets real-time input from people on the road and I just find that Waze is reliable to "trouble shoot" when there's an accident or delay. I also like the announcements that there's an accident, or obstacle or police etc.

Sure, why don’t we start at the top: rape.

“Within weeks, Sharkey began touching and kissing the woman. When she refused to reciprocate, Sharkey threatened her with deportation.

In July 2014, Sharkey began forcing E.D. to have sex, once in a communal restroom where they were seen by a 7-year-old girl, and on another occasion in a room where a detainee witnessed part of the assault. Staff at the center became aware of the situation, but failed to protect E.D. from Sharkey’s assaults, court papers allege.

Instead, the center’s staff retaliated against E.D. by denying her and her son privileges and instituting a restrictive clothing policy that caused other detainees to shun her. When Sharkey’s conduct was investigated, E.D. initially denied sexual contact because she feared deportation. She ultimately reported the assaults when she was appointed an immigration lawyer, court papers say.

In his deposition, Sharkey testified that his sexual contact with E.D. was “a joke” among staff members in their daily meetings and that one staff member texted a photo of E.D. in her underwear to Sharkey while he was on vacation.“

This facility has been notorious for a long time.

All good... thanks for the new option.

Something is definitely up with these people. I suppose it's barely in the realm of possibility that they really were just on the wrong road and that the $16,000 cash was planted and the video surveillance + Canada refusal to allow return lies, but the likelihood is preeeeeeeetty small.

I got tired of reading about this one incident of one employee doing something wrong... and some supervisors didn't do much of anything... but it also sounds like a he said/she said incident. The main criticism seems to be that ICE used the place to detain people... that it is not a prison. How does that make the photo that I showed invalid? How does that make the place filthy and freezing? How does that prove that the people were not travelling with $16,000 in cash after they illegal crossed the border... that Canada does not want the illegal immigrants back... that the British Consulate is not responding to them?
