Pelosi and Graham team up to oppose Trump's Syria decision

ISIS just saw us fold like a cheap suit ...

Perhaps, but it was always a matter of when (not if) just as AQ and the Taliban see it in Afghanistan. Radical Islam (including sect on sect violence) has been around for centuries and will remain regardless of how much regional whack-a-mole the US military is willing to play.

I think you're reaching for straws here, arguing ideology & theory, rather than seeing the carnage and immediate disaster this has become.

Well, isn't this an interesting development and alliance? Some, might even call it an unholy alliance!

I'm a bit surprised by the forcefulness of Graham's statement. Not surprised by Pelosi here, but I'm not sure what Graham's angle is? As a vet, perhaps he's acting altruistically. One can hope.

BTW - I find Axios to be an excellent resource for quickly getting the day's important news in a relatively brief form, and seemingly free of any overt bias.

Graham actually has a moral fiber in his body! Who knew?

What did we learn, from Al Queda? That you fight them "there", so you don't have to fight them "here".

We had 3000 casualties from the last battle we fought on our soil. Which is why we took the fight to them. To protect our homeland. I suspect you're not thinking this through.

The last "battle" was against about 20 terrorists "armed" with box cutters, already inside the US, who were able to pilot commercial aircraft into buildings. We now have about 50K federal airport nannies to (help?) counter such a plot. Our troops playing whack-a-mole "over there" (for the last 19 years) has not reduced the need for those 50K federal airport nannies one bit, if anything, it has likely enraged the terrorists further.

I don't see anything in the quotes from either Pelosi or Graham about "overturn President Trump's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria". They both speak about sanctions...which, btw, Trump has already spoken about doing.

To me, this is what's going on here...

Trump: We will devastate Turkey's economy by way of sanctions and other measures.

Nancy and Lindsey: We call on Trump to enact sanctions!!!

Axios: Pelosi and Graham "discuss bipartisan efforts to overturn President Trump's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria".

Trump-hating useful idiots: YOU TELL HIM, NANCY AND LINDSEY!!"

Unbiased people: Huh??? :doh

I suppose that sanctions do indicate a concern for the situation, but I don't think they're an appropriate or effective action. They take a long time to work. This is a problem that will be decided quickly, not in the years it will take sanctions to have an effect.

1. Nancy disagrees with you. She is calling for sanctions.

2. Sanctions have worked very quickly. Trump initiated sanctions against Turkey and Erdogan immediately called Trump and asked the US to mediate negotiations between Turkey and the Kurds.

3. This problem IS being decided quickly. The Kurds have made a deal with Assad for protection and Russian soldiers are now patrolling the area between the Turks and the Syrians.

And all this has happened in just days since Trump pulled out and left everything up to the people in the area...Turkey, Syria, the Kurds and the Russians.

Graham had better tread lightly. If he pisses Trump off, Trump will have him primaried. Once the SC primary is over, Graham will have a lot more discretion to say whatever his voters want to hear.

What this demonstrates is what many already know--there is no meaningful difference between Dems and Repubs, ESPECIALLY when it comes to profits for their sugar daddies in the defense industry. Both parties like war, the longer the better.
