In other words, the funding isn't going to help the Kurds and it's doubtful it will help other ethnic minorities either.
What the heck is wrong with this picture?. We still have over a 1000 troops in Syria. Trump removed a friggen few dozen right on the border of Turkey. Did you see that caravan from Turkey headed to the Syrian border? Would you rather had Trump keep a few dozen troops on the border to confront Turkey?
For months Trump has been asking countries in the EU to collect the foreign ISIS fighters imprisoned in Syria that came from their countries and deal with them. They would not.
And as far as the Kurds go, yes they assisted us in defeating the califate of ISIS. But.....I suggest you read up on the Kurds. Kurds align themselves with those who will assist them in their goal to conquer land they believe belongs to Kurdistan. Those they have aligned themselves in the past are genuine foes of the U.S.. The Kurds for decades caused a lot of bloody battles.
We have given the Kurds training, weapons to defend themselves along with massive supplies of humanitarian aid. In Iraq, the Kurds mostly live in three provinces in the north. We have protected them too. But you will find Kurds living inside of Turkey too. Another thing about Kurds they are overwhelmingly of the Islam faith but some are Sunni and some are Shia and that is a conflict in itself.
Turkey sees radical Kurds as a terrorist group because for decades they fought the Turkey government resulting
in one bloodbath after another. PKK also known as The Kurdistan Workers' Party. It is a far-left militant and political organization based in Turkey and Iraq. Since 1984 the PKK has been involved in an armed conflict with the Turkish state, with the initial aim of achieving an independent Kurdish state, later changing it to a demand for equal rights and Kurdish autonomy in Turkey.
Trump desiring to get out of that Hellhole is the right thing to do.
The EU not wanting to claim their own homegrown terrorists emptying the jails they were being held in northeastern Syria.... shame on them. But what's new? The EU time and time again shows what a feckless bunch they are. Heck they can't pay their fair share for NATO. None of them have an adequate military to protect their own borders. When we call on them for a coalition to fight for something that is a threat to us, their contributions are so anemic it is shameful. If we place strong sanctions on countries that are crapping on us, the EU continues to do business with them as usual. It is time to fork those porkies and their own fam damilies.
You understand the type of troops still there? Do you think Turkey would have moved in if Trump said NO.
50 million is chump change
If it is not enough to your liking, start passing the bucket in Australia and add to the cause.
I thought you yanks talked billions.
Pony up to the cause dear ally or zip it.
Under Trump there will not be 250,000 troops dispersed unless Congress has made a declaration of war.
What is with you NeoCons?
Turkey a NATO ally was hellbent on invading Syria. Trump removed a few dozen troops from the border. What in Sam Hill would you want him to do?
This part of the world has seen nothing but endless wars for many centuries. Our military wasn't designed/created to police the world.
While you talk allies, I suggest you read up on the history of the Kurds. They didn't enter into this conflict because of ISIS, they had personal reasons in seeing it as a way to regain part of Syria they feel belongs to Kurdistan
In other words, the funding isn't going to help the Kurds and it's doubtful it will help other ethnic minorities either.
 Trump makes up foreign policy on the fly, leaving U.S. foreign policy sclerotic to our deep detriment; doubling down on Obama's fecklessness that already cost so much. Saying what he will and will not do is as valuable as the air it takes to do so.
While it's entertaining that you somehow think that's a slur, no, regular Conservative. That's why I clash so much with the Trump administration, as he is not.
I think, however, that what you meant to say is: "What is it with you Conservatives and Military professionals with years of experience in exactly this area of U.S. foreign policy?"
But I have a question: What is it with Trump Fans cheering when their guy does the same foolish, feckless, crap that they lambasted Obama for?
I remember General Votel when he had to call General Mazloum in early 2018 and tell him the U.S. was going to be pulling out of Syria, before Trump changed his mind - again - and simply limited our ability to operate based on an imaginary number that sounded good in his head. It was - he said - the hardest, (and most shameful) thing he'd ever had to do in his entire military career. I remember looking across the table at our "allies" when Obama changed his mind on the Red Line in Syria.
Not abandon the Kurds, and sure as hell not do it as a spur of the moment decision during a phone call with the brutal thug Erdogan because an autocrat wanted him to.
We had joint patrol areas and agreed upon deconfliction zones. Sticking to those would have been fine, and would have headed this off.
But, Trump seems to have a soft spot for Autocrats. Opposition to China's abuses in Hong Kong and their reach into shutting down speech in the U.S. is united people as varied as Ted Cruz and AOC... but not Trump. Nope. He thinks the crackdown in Tianamen was "strong".
Most of the world has seen nothing but war for centuries - the history of warfare is the history of the human species. Our military is built to achieve U.S. foreign policy aims; and it did so - thanks to the Kurds - in this instance with a shockingly low investment of men and materiel. ISIS was a nation-state, with a Billion Dollar a Year Budget and global reach. And - thanks to the Kurds - we were able to beat them with a couple of thousand dudes. We fought and won a bigger war than we did in 2004-2009, and we did it with a fraction of the troops thanks to the Kurds.
Yup. Not least because we promised them that, if they shed the blood for us in our stead to defeat ISIS (and the battles they fought on our behalf were bigger than the battles we fought a decade prior), we would help to protect and support them from reprisal by the brutal dictatorships bent on abusing them.
And then we decided that we would just toss those promises away, because the United States is a worthless ally, because our President is willing to make us into a liar on a whim. Good luck finding any allies to do the bloody work for us in the future. When whatever the next iteration of ISIS pops up (and, it will) we will spend more blood then dealing with it then because we wanted to believe we could just dip out now.
It's as obstinately short-sighted and feckless as the Obama administration, and that's about the worst description available to offer.
It's throwing money at a problem that has gotten significantly worse since the Turkish invasion regardless of who it's supposed to help. This money might have been more helpful without the ensuing chaos that's going on now that Turkey is shelling Kurdish areas and forcing civilians to flee.
Actually, Erdogan in an interview stated he had been told no by Trump for months and that he wasn't waiting any longer. I'll see if I can find it on video.

Do you really think if Trump had a spine and said no, our troops will protect themselves he would have made the move? Trump and Erdogan are both bullies, Trumps just weaker.

Trump releases $50 million to protect ethnic and religious minorities in Syria | TheHill
Wait, to hear some DP posters say it, Trump is a murderer on board with the Kurish peoples' genocide because Oh, Putin and Turkey or some such outrage.
How could that be so when he sending 50 million dollars in relief?
Get real. Trump opened the flood gates on the Kurds. His horrifically stupid order to withdraw US troops has caused complete chaos, death, and destruction. Trump's profound ignorance has shocked the nation once again. Who benefits? Putin, Erdogan, and Assad.
Trump's yet to be released 50 million is an attempt to mitigate the international embarrassment his ****-up has caused ... Donald Trump, who else?
Syria is up for grabs, chaos reigns. Tens of thousands of people are fleeing Syria. Over one hundred thousand people have been and will be displaced. Who in Syria will distribute the 50 million? How will it be distributed and used? People are trying to survive and get the hell out of a growing **** storm!
Ironically, Trump's greenlight to Erdogan caused the murder of Hervin Khalaf, secretary general of the Future Syria Party. Turkish backed forces ambushed her car, killed her driver, captured Khalaf, tortured her and then killed her. The Future Syria Party is an organization working for democracy in Syria by attempting to bring Arabs, Kurds, and Christians together to establish peace and to rid Syria of Assad.
Because of Trump's betrayal of the Kurds Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces - you know, the people who were allied with the United States - have entered an agreement with the Syrian government (Assad) - who is backed by Russian and Iran, to fight the Turkish forces.
But, yeah, Trump allocated and announced 50 million for Syria. So all of the above and more is cool.

What really sickens me the most is reading and watching American ‘Veterans’ PISSING on the graves of 12,000 DEAD Kurdish Soldiers who died so USA soldiers wouldn’t have to die. USA — Ungrateful Sabotaging Ally. Good look with the ethnic cleanser RTE coming to the USA in a month.
For all the blood, sweat and tears the Kurds shed defeating Daesh, we take credit and then let all of the Daesh prisoners go free. But heh, Muhammad Bone Saw can pay for the 1,500 American mercenaries he just bought.
You can bet the Israelis aren’t feeling too comfortable, knowing we’ve sold out every ally and succumbed to every dictator. trump just completed bush’s ****ing up the Middle East last decade.
Your garbage of 3.6 million Syrian refugees having lived in the area that Erdogan now wants to turn into a buffer zone, shows (as you demonstrate virtually everywhere you enter here and as cannot be pointed out often enough) thatDriving out the terrorist PKK so the 3.6 million people who used to live in that area can return home is probably chaotic, but it is necessary. There are almost 7 million refugees outside of Syria and another 6 million displaced inside of Syria. 13 million people would like to go home. This is a start to fixing the massive problem caused by the inept foreign policy of Obama and his Secretary of State. More importantly, it is our NATO ally standing up against terrorists who want to spread the same chaos into their land.
