Homeless Mom Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Using Friend'''s Address to Enroll Son in School

The mother was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny and served five years behind bars for the “stolen” education.

She was homeless and used her babysitters address to enrole her kid into the school 1 neighborhood over. Now shes doing 5 years in prison.

Maybe Trump should give her a pardon and recommend some local prosecutors get fired?

On Friday, actress Huffman was sentenced to 14 days behind bars for her role in the college admissions scandal, which included paying $15,000 to admissions consultant William “Rick” Singer and his nonprofit organization, Key Worldwide Foundation (“KWF”), who then facilitated cheating on Huffman’s daughter’s SAT test by having a proctor correct the teen’s answers after the fact.

Ouch! I think I heard of a similar story a few years back. Some laws defy logic.

The moral of the story? Be an actress.

A 19-year-old gamer who planned a hoax 911 call that resulted in a Kansas man's death was sentenced to 1.25 years in prison last week. This lady gets 5 years.

It's funny how the following detail gets overlooked:

This had nothing to do with registering her son for school.

This case is about the convictions for the sale of narcotics to an undercover police officer," the judge said. "I think you understand that because that is really the essence of what has gotten you into the predicament you find yourself today."
On the two counts of sale of narcotics, the judge then sentenced her to 12 years, suspended after she serves five years and followed by five years probation. The sentence is to run concurrently with a five-year sentence she received in the Norwalk case.
"When you are released, go back to doing an honest living and become a role model for your son," the judge added.
Tuesday's hearing ended a highly charged case that put a spotlight on the city's beleaguered school system and cries for changes in state legislation that makes it illegal for parents to send their children to schools in towns where they are not residents.
But support for McDowell dropped off after she was arrested by Bridgeport police in June and charged with selling marijuana and crack cocaine on two occasions to an undercover police officer outside her Dover Street home. Police said McDowell even interrupted her 6-year-old son's birthday to sell the drugs.
Assistant State's Attorney Michael DeJoseph had made strong efforts to separate the Norwalk case from the drug cases he was prosecuting.
In the end, both he and McDowell's lawyer, Darnell Crosland, said they were happy with the resolution of the cases.

Taxpayer money is at stake. There's none more protective of his tax dollars than a tax payer.

By enrolling in the wrong district where she isn't paying taxes, she's literally stealing tax dollars.

Does it rate 5 years?

She got off easy. She's a serial drug dealer and the 5 years was a probation revocation.

If she was truly homeless, she would have been covered by McKinney-Vento.

Yep. For all the political barbs Illinois gets, it's one thing they definitely got right - that's for sure!

This is a story that reeks of rich people saying you are entitled to a good education unless I have to pay for it.

It is amazing how us rich people want nothing but the best for all the disadvantaged in this country and every other country willing to walk into this country until they walk into our backyard.

At one time, the rich and poor shared the same neighborhoods, churches and schools.

Sounds hard to believe based on the information provided.

Open borders, closed school districts. Liberal neighborhood. The Hypocrisy is obnoxious.

Real mother of the year material

Probably ... when you sell drugs ...

Prosecutors have wide latitude when laying charges. Bringing this forwards was his/her choice.

Other options were available? Yes??

Tax payer money and resources isn't distributed evenly to all school districts. That contention came up in the article.

Earlier this year, The Washington Post reported that a new study showed white school districts received $23 billion more in government funding than nonwhite school districts in 2016, regardless of the fact that they had the same number of students.

No, getting off easy is getting 6 months for the rape of an unconscious girl, or 15 months for "swatting" an innocent person who winds up getting shot and killed. Funny how single white men can get such short sentences for violent crimes and a black mother with dependent children can get 5 years for a non violent crime.

We need to end the war on drugs. It is literally costing America too much. I can understand CPS taking the kids for her selling crack to try to pay the bills. But 5 years prison when shes not even a part of production of the drugs??

non-violent offenders should rarely be in prison

Hollywood has its own laws and morals. They want to tell us what we are allowed to do.
This is a shame. End of story.
