Montana man allegedly assaults 13-year-old boy for 'disrespecting' the national anthem - AOL News

A Montana man was charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a 13-year-old boy who he claimed was "disrespecting the national anthem," according to KPAX-TV.

Witnesses said Curt Brockway slammed the young boy to the ground, reportedly fracturing his skull, because he didn't take off his hat while the anthem was playing Saturday at the Mineral County Fair in Superior, Wash.

Why do people insist that one must display their "patriotism" at public events?

This guy is an azzho! I'll bet he's one of those with the mantra of "im a TRUE patriot."

Probably a trump supporter.

whoops, I just posted teh same story. Mods, please feel free to merge, thanks

Another insane person who thinks symbolism is more important than substance.

What an idiot.

Yup, and people who try to tell others what they should do are teh ultimate assholes. Mind your own business. If he doesn't want to remove his hat, so be it. People like that are just straight up a hole. Worry about your own **** behavior before trying to tell others what they should do

Curt James Brockway: Montana man, charged for allegedly throwing 13-year-old to the ground for not taking hat off during national anthem at event in Mineral County - CBS News
At an initial court appearance on Monday, prosecutors recommended his bail be set at $100,000, but a judge ruled that he can be released on his own recognizance, CBS affiliate KPAX reports.
.....
Brockway was convicted of a 2010 charge of assault with a weapon, the station reports. In that incident, Brockway pulled up to a parked vehicle, got out and pulled a gun on a family and stated he was going to kill them, according to KPAX. He was sentenced to 10 years with the Montana Department of Corrections, all of which were suspended.

I have a very hard time believing this reporting.

This ****er obviously needs to be locked up.

Anyone who thinks their job is to enforce patriotism in a free country can hit the road and find a nice little dictatorship.

Anyone who wants the flag or the national anthem respected is a Trump supporter, or just the crazy ones? Personally, I just want people of ALL political persuasions to CHILL THE **** OUT! Life is too short to be pissed off all the time.

Surely just a coincidence. /s

He didn't do his time, hasn't learned a thing.
Now why again is the OP grandstanding about patriots and not about 10 years for assault with a weapon being suspended?

Why am i grandstanding? This is about a man assaulting a kid for not being patriotic. Plain and simple. He wants everyone to be as patriotic as he is.
I get a sense that you are being a bit sympathetic towards this guy, no?
I have absolutely no say in what the law does to him. They never ask for my advice. ;0

A point of correction -- the man spoke to the boy about removing his hat during the national anthem. He assaulted the kid for cursing at him for doing so.

Not that words justify the man's actions, but it's probably best to teach kids not to curse out strangers at a public venue. They might be an ex-con with anger management issues.

Nope! the idiot was ultimately upset because the kid was not being patriotic. Disrespecting the flag/anthem = NOT being patriotic to him.

From the article (CBS):

According to the prosecutor, Curt James Brockway, 39, told a sheriff's deputy that he asked the child to remove his hat out of respect before the "Star Spangled Banner" was played at the Mineral County Fairgrounds in Superior on Saturday. He said the boy cursed at him before Brockway grabbed him by the neck and slammed him to the floor.

From the article (CBS):

You're playing semantics. It all started with the kid not showing the right about of patriotism.

Now, if the anthem was not being played and some random 13yr old kid ran up to him and started cussing for no reason, then yes, i would agree with you.

Looking at what the prosecutor said isn't really 'playing semantics'. It did start with the anthem, but escalated.

Why does one obviously deranged asshole get your attention? There are too many out there to count. He’ll get what’s coming to him and all will be forgotten.

wow! so defensive

Absolutely not. I am just question why Trump is in the mix. The guy assaulted a family many years prior. Sadly, he was given a second chance he didn't take.
I don't know him, but it seems he has severe anger issues and it saddens me to see that he was free to hurt a child.
