El Paso congresswoman says Trump is ‘not welcome’ in the city - MarketWatch


El Paso, Texas, a city in mourning after a gunman killed 21 people there on Saturday, needs support and prayers after the tragedy, local officials have said.

The city’s representative in the House, however, says it does not need a visit from President Trump.

Veronica Escobar, a Democratic congresswoman representing the Texas district that includes El Paso and the Walmart WMT, -2.64% store where the shooting took place, told the MSNBC show “Morning Joe” that Trump is “not welcome” in El Paso right now.

“Words have consequences,” she said on the show. “The president has made my community and my people the enemy. He has told the country that we are people to be feared, people to be hated.”

Hispanic people have become “dehumanized,” she said.

Nobody with common sense would want a lying, bullying, scumbag racist like Trump in their city at any time for any reason.
 
Hmm... Escobar saying "my community and my people" does not seem the least bit divisive to her. I bet if Trump had said "my country and my people" it would be called divisive, racist and/or xenophobic. When, exactly, did Trump disrespect the people of El Paso, TX by saying that those people should be feared and hated?

Exactly.
Lets face it, we are divided, and were divided long before Trump was elected. He is just a convenient scapegoat for those who want to say "my people" and "my country" all day long, but dare anyone else saying the same.

Not a peep of a follow-up question from MSDNC about who she meant by "my people" or when Trump ever mentioned the people from El Paso, TX as people to be feared or hated.

Well he said that criminals and gangsters are sneaking over the border and people took that to mean that he hates all Mexicans. And the left will never let go of that aspect.

Trump just took a dump on Baltimore as President of the United States because he was personally mad at a Representative of the United States.
Some people like poop, what can you do. If she's saying "we don't want you poopie-head's here based on your poppy behavior - I get that. Why don't you?

Democrat women are notoriously bad about turning tragedies into political assaults on republican politicians for political party purposes. They should be ashamed of themselves.

He says horrible things about Mexican immigrants at every rally since he came down the escalator. . El Paso is 80% Hispanic, most of them of Mexican heritage.

Hes not talking about migrants hes talking about people who avoid the checkpoints on purpose. They obviously have something to hide, not trying to assimilate, if they are evading outposts on purpose to sneak in.

Trump specifically addresses illegal immigrants many of which are not Mexican nationals yet enter the US illegally from Mexico at popular (easy to cross the border) locations. I agree that Trump is wrong when he states that "Mexico is sending them". The congressional district where I live is 61% Hispanic (many of Mexican heritage) but most of those Hispanics are US citizens (having lived in Texas for generations) or legal immigrants. I know that Escobar thinks she represents folks that Trump "fears and hates" but she has no rational basis for that view.
