This from someone who would know. She worked as a close adviser to Trump during the 2016 campaign. She's known him for over 15 years. She was in the West Wing for over a year.
This makes perfect sense. By claiming the supporters were spontaneous when the blowback came, Trump can disavow them. If the backlash had not come, he'd be claiming credit.
Trump believes everything is about image and public relations. It's all about public perception. And, unfortunately he may be right. More than one author has claimed that military and cabinet positions were filled by a particular individual in large part because they "looked the part." Likewise, others have not been nominated or appointed because they were not the image Trump was looking for, regardless of their qualifications. Remember when Trump described the Chinese president's aides as "right out of central casting"? He said the same thing about his supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as well as general Mattis, his pick for secretary of defense.
It does not surprise me to learn that these so-called spontaneous crowd outbursts are actually choreographed by the Trump campaign. It is consistent with what we know Trump has said in the past. It fits with his "image and brand are everything" philosophy. And it is consistent that Trump supporters are being played for fools as always.
“At those rallies, these things are choreographed. There are section leaders who help to start the chants — so it was intentional and we know they did it so they would start the chants so he could test it,” she explained.
“That was no accident, it didn’t start spontaneously. He knew what they would be chanting,” she concluded. LINK
