House votes to kill impeachment effort against Trump | TheHill
95 votes to vote to impeach is all the Democrats could muster. I wonder if this will take the wind out of the sails of the "squad" or if they'll simply take the vote count as a challenge.
The Senate will never convict.
The Democrats aren't going to use impeachment as a toy like what the GOP did to Clinton. The slow burn of gathering evidence worked spectacularly against Nixon and it will work well against Trump.
However, it is particularly sad that because of the abuse of the impeachment process in the 90s, we can virtually no longer use the process when it actually becomes necessary because the the political fallout would be catastrophic.
In other words, the most potent power in the Constitution to check a rogue president is all but null and void. That should concern every American.

With a Senate majority of GOP Trump enablers, impeachment is a dead-end street.
Much better to beat Trump in the 2020 election and then indict him.
Why would you conclude this means anything when the modern GOP would never vote to convict; hell, when they ex-communicate anyone who doesn't actively worship Trump?
It hasn't been killed, it's been tabled, so it's not entirely dead - the divisive topic of impeachment as been put on ice - for the time being. This isn't the first time that Al Green has pushed to impeach Trump since 2017, and forced several votes on impeachment in the last session of Congress. Nearly 60 Democrats backed an earlier version of Green's measure in December 2017, which was successfully killed by Republican leaders at the time.
I stand with Nancy Pelosi on this, there are six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that Trump may have engaged in. Plus, Robert Mueller will tell the American public, with his own words, the facts surrounding ten different instances of possible obstruction of justice. It will be a road map leading to even more Congressional hearings.

There was a time when the nation's leaders worked to place the nation on the paths leading to greatness for both the nation's individuals and the nation itself.
The Democrat-Socialists now dream only of infighting, dividing the people, backstabbing, lies for effect and hate filled invectives to accomplish short term advantage and political intrigues.
Jefferson weeps.
What exactly is the purpose behind opposing better incomes, more personal wealth, more jobs and greater freedom to pursue happiness?
"The Squad" is the perfect, crystallized example of the deceit, hatred, dishonesty and vile profanity that is the Democrat-Socialist Party today.
We're lucky they came along when they did. When the Congressional Colonoscopy begins, we have been shown where the scope should be inserted.
Are all these investigations pure oversight, congress doing its job or are they a very partisan political vendetta against Trump, political revenge for losing an election in 2016? I'd believe the oversight if it wasn't for the Democrats setting out to destroy Trump beginning the day after the election. Right now impeachment is purely a one party affair, Democrats overwhelmingly favor impeachment 65-18, Republicans oppose impeachment 11-82, independents are closer, but oppose impeachment by a good 14 point margin, 43-29. Thus making impeachment a one party affair much like Bill Clinton's was back in the late 1990's. Question 8

Impeachment today would very much look like a one party partisan vendetta. Pelosi was correct in having it voted down if she and the democrats want to attract the independent vote. Trump won the white house by winning independents over Hillary Clinton. If impeachment looks like a vendetta against Trump, the same thing could happen in 2020. Pelosi knows this, that it could backfire on them.
All these investigations have been blocked. It's blatant obstructionism right in the face of Congress whose obligation is to keep a check on the powers of the president.
Except that Bill Clinton committed actual crimes, for which there was clear evidence. He eventually entered a plea bargain and surrendered his law license. He actually did what the articles of impeachment accused him of, and the senate Democrats voted not to remove him for political reasons. It's THAT action that set the bar for political abuse of the impeachment process, and the fallout from that that makes this so contentious.
Everyone knew it wouldn't pass. Do you know what the bill said? It was to have the House vote to impeach Trump in the next few days. Why would most Democrats support that? They have a few ongoing investigations. They are waiting on the Mueller testimony. Did you really think they were going to cast votes to impeach right now - especially when they would have to send it immediately to the Republican controlled Senate for the "trial"?
95 votes to vote to impeach this week is all they could muster. This actually shows that most of the Democrats aren't as stupid as the Republicans who voted 60+ times to repeal the ACA knowing there was no chance at all of that happening.
I think we spent the last two and a half years listening all day every day to Democrats and their propaganda wing telling us that Trump should be impeached for all kinds of stuff. They "know" he's been involved with sexual abuse, financial crimes, money laundering, campaign finance fraud, kidnapping, abuse of power, spying for our enemies, obstruction of justice and murder. If they've got all that dope then hang the ****er! It's beyond high time for the Democrats to **** or get off the pot....unless they've been saying all this crap just to string their idiot base along.
The idiot base? Yes, we know Trump supporters are the idiot base for sure.
We listened to the Republicans spend how many years talking about Hillary Clinton's crimes and hauling her down to testify, and hosting hearing after hearing about them. I remember all those posts from you complaining about that. Or do I?
I'd suggest that, based on the ample evidence of Clinton getting preferential treatment in the "investigations", those complaints were completely warranted.
Oh, so the Republicans were giving her special preferential treatment in the Benghazi and e-mail never ending investigations? Interesting. Tell me more.
I think you know how all that worked. You're not so blind.
I'm not blind at all.
Did you complain about their never-ending investigations into Clinton or not? i don't recall you doing it. But I know you're not a hypocrite, so you must have.
I complained about the impotence of the GOP at that time and have found that it extends to today. Those hearings sketched out the existence of an entrenched political class and the events since 2008 have colored in a lot of those lines.
The bolded sentence actually answers your own question. 'The squad' is fighting exactly for those things. They're fighting for better wages, equal opportunity and greater freedom to pursue happiness, but it's for the minorities and people of the Muslim religion that they're fighting for. Get off your white-privilege high horse and understand that people of color absolutely do not have the same rights as you. No, Jefferson doesn't 'weep', it's Abraham Lincoln that would be ashamed of how deeply our nation is still divided along racial lines. He would weep to see the hatred, racism and inequalities this country still holds nearly 150 years after his assassination. Everything that Lincoln stood for has been crapped on by Trump. Yes, there's equality in this country but only for white people or people that look more like you do. It excludes woman who speak up, it excludes women who curse or wear the hijab. It excludes women that demand they have the same rights as some white dude in a politics forum.
Women, and in particular women of different ethnicity and origins are fighting against the old white establishment in Washington and you don't like it, well, that's too bad for you, this is reality and this is progress.

How sad for you that you are this out of touch.
The lot in life for minorities in the USA is better today than it ever has been. Under Trump's leadership, more minorities are making more money and enjoying greater personal wealth than at any point in the history of the Republic.
In his address last night, Trump noted that 60% of the new jobs in the country under Trump have been filled by women.
There is better economic opportunity for ALL AMERICANS in general and for Women and Minorities in particular.
If you would listen to what Trump actually says as opposed to what the Never Trump hate mongers say he said, you might gain a better understanding of what is happening.
In the real world, there is more opportunity for ALL AMERICANS than there has ever been.
It's a little amusing that so many are protesting things that no longer happen in situations that no longer exist.
Why do people manufacture fantasies of misery when all they need do to be happy is take advantage of the real world in which they live.
Do you have any real world examples of things that have gotten worse for anyone as a result of Trump policies that benefit everyone?
