House votes to kill impeachment effort against Trump

House votes to kill impeachment effort against Trump | TheHill

95 votes to vote to impeach is all the Democrats could muster. I wonder if this will take the wind out of the sails of the "squad" or if they'll simply take the vote count as a challenge.

To the contrary, the nickel head club is beside themselves with excitement they were able to muster 95 votes and believe it's only a matter of time before Trump is impeached.

My God Democratic Underground is good entertainment.

He is going to be impeached - Democratic Underground

It hasn't been killed, it's been tabled, so it's not entirely dead - the divisive topic of impeachment as been put on ice - for the time being. This isn't the first time that Al Green has pushed to impeach Trump since 2017, and forced several votes on impeachment in the last session of Congress. Nearly 60 Democrats backed an earlier version of Green's measure in December 2017, which was successfully killed by Republican leaders at the time.

I stand with Nancy Pelosi on this, there are six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that Trump may have engaged in. Plus, Robert Mueller will tell the American public, with his own words, the facts surrounding ten different instances of possible obstruction of justice. It will be a road map leading to even more Congressional hearings.

LOL. Be patient. It's right around the corner.

Yes as a matter of fact, I do. Trump has done absolutely nothing to help the average working family, as a matter of fact, his trade tariffs have forced the American consumer to pay 1.4 billion dollars every month purchasing such every day items as shampoo, laundry detergent and that washing machine to wash clothes in. Yes, 1.4 BILLION every month, that's what it's costing the US taxpayer thanks to Trump's tariffs.

Trump hasn't done one damned thing about fixing our crumbling infrastructure. He approved a 2 Trillion infrastructure package over 10 years from democrats but republican Congress rejected it because the Trump windfall tax cuts he gave to the super rich would have created an even great ballooned deficit if the infrastructure bill was passed, republicans didn't want to put it on our debt. Trump knew very well that his republicans would squash that bill even if he had agreed to 100 Trillion, it did not matter. So blame the damned republicans in Congress for NO infrastructure bill at all being passed.

He has decimated the farming industry with his tariffs and left farmers with vast bins filled with soybeans and other crops rotting away because there was no market for it. But he covered that with two multi-billion dollar bailouts for the farmers. What has he done to improving and elevating the condition of working families? Nothing at all. Nobody is better off, nobody is making more money, more are struggling with increased food costs and other goods.

Trump doesn't want you to understand that, so he runs around creating chaos and lighting fires with race and ethnicity at its core. He has done with 'the squad' which is literally putting those four women at high risk of physical harm. He's a president that uses whatever voice he has in a way to fuel hatred and divide our country. The American people will not tolerate that kind of hate from the president for another four years.

Record low unemployment, including African American. Wages rising fast. You just don't read the news, do you?

My life hasn't changed one bit except I pay more for food and my prescriptions. Has yours?

Anecdotal. By the way, yes, my life has changed for the better since Trump became president and I want it to continue that way.

All these investigations have been blocked. It's blatant obstructionism right in the face of Congress whose obligation is to keep a check on the powers of the president.

That depends in my opinion. Are the investigations legitimate oversight or for purely partisan political advantage with an election coming up? Of course democrats state they are legitimate, Republicans purely partisan in an attempt by the Democrats to destroy Trump and win an election.

As I stated earlier in one of my posts, I probably would have sided with the Democrats on legitimate oversight if they hadn't started out to destroy Trump the day after the election. Not even waiting until Trump took office tends in my mind to make these investigations more of a purely partisan nature.

So I've pretty much ignored the whole thing. Neither jumping on the protect and defend Trump wagon or the let's destroy Trump wagon. If and when impeachment time comes, we'll all know it. It won't be just Democrats clamoring for impeach like it is today, but the majority of independents will have climbed on board along with a good number of republicans.

I can't tell any difference in my life under Trump, Obama, G.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, G.H.W. Bush or any other president in my long life. Whomever was president hasn't change my life one way or the other. I do think if a president is of our political persuasion or of our party it does make us feel better. If we have a president of the other party and of a political persuasion we don't like, we feel worst. For me though, no change in my life at all.

In particular, the new tax law helped me out to the total of about $3500 last tax year and will continue to help me out unless Democrats muck it up for me.

Not only does Congress have the discretion to conduct investigations, they have an obligation to do so. There's not only one but there are a whole host of investigations being conducted by multiple congressional committees. The House Judiciary Committee, the House Oversight Committee, House Ways and Means Committee, House Intelligence Committee, the Senate Intelligence Committee, and the House Financial Services Committee have ongoing investigations that have had subpoenas refused, documents requested refused, and refusals of just about every person invited to testify before Congress. In addition to Congress, there's many other investigations ongoing.

In total, Trump faces at least 15 criminal or civil inquiries by nine federal, state and local agencies into his business, his charity, his campaign, his inaugural committee and his personal finances. And if that's not enough, at least 47 multistate lawsuits have been filed against the federal government since Donald Trump took office in January 2017.

Can you, in all good conscience, look at these numbers and proclaim that everyone is just "out to get him", or "have a bone to pick with Trump". How is it even conceivable in your mind that so many people can be so wrong?

How did it change for the better?

Among several things I saved about $3500 in taxes last year due to the new tax law and will continue to benefit from it. If Hillary had been elected it may have destroyed my life, as will happen if just about any Democrat running wins and is actually able to pass what they want to pass. My biggest concern in the minimum wage. I own my own business and pay my employees about $11 per hour and if the MW is raised to $15 per hour I will be history, as will many other small businesses. Much of that is because I own a service business, which is different than retail. In retail or restaurant you can raise your prices a few cents to cover the labor increase but in the service business when you have to pay your employees $4 more per hour you actually lose money if you only raise your customer's rates only $4 per hour. So, my customers would have to pay about $6 more per hour than they do now in order to raise my employees $4 per hour and then my employees would go from making $4 per hour more than minimum wage now to being minimum wage employees, unless I raise them like $8 per hour, which means I would have to raise my customer's rates up $12 per hour. My customers can barely afford things now so with that much of an increase, many will just decide they don't need the service at all. All of this gives the larger companies like Walmart and McDonalds a huge advantage over their competition because they can take a short term hit to knock their competitors out of business and then they will be able to raise their prices up later. So, the Walmarts and McDonalds of the country will wind up getting even richer than they are right now.

You realize that your 'tax break' has an expiration date, right? It's 2025, but the tax break the millionaires enjoy will never expire. You're fortunate, you made money this year but tax season, for some, came to a close on April 15, 2019, leaving many taxpayers surprised to find they had to pay more taxes than last year or received significantly fewer refund dollars from the Internal Revenue Service.

Oh, I know all about service businesses, I owned one with five locations. My employees were making $15 an hour ten years ago, that was the starting rate.

Good for you. I was talking about my overall life. Whoever was president really didn't effect that. The new tax law cost me somewhere between 500-1,000. But that's life.

You're wrong. First off, I don't believe Congress will allow the tax breaks to expire as even Democrats want to help the little guy. Second, the tax break that gave me the most advantage is one of the ones for businesses that does not expire. If Republicans are in charge, the tax breaks you refer to will be renewed. So what do you predict will happen if Democrats are in charge? Do you think they will let the little guy's tax breaks expire?

I mostly agree with you but I will say that I will not be happy living in a world where the law of the land is political correctness and SJW crap. Now a California town has passed a law to rename manhole covers so they are gender neutral. Good God. We've got a lot of problems in this country and the world and there are millions of homeless people in California and we have to waste our time renaming manhole covers. I mean even the term "man" can generally refer to humans and people as a whole so why do we have to pass a law ushering "maintenance" covers?

That is MAINTENANCE HOLES, you un-PC person you!

Actually, I've never understood why they were called "manhole" anyways. When you think about it, it sounds kinda gross. But anywho...what do you expect from Liberalfornia. It's like the uncle that the rest of the relatives keep alcohol away from.

Well you haven't been keeping up with the facts and the fact is YOUR tax breaks will expire in 2025 while the tax breaks for the rich will never expire. So yes, they will let the little guy's tax breaks expire, absolutely.

The law cuts corporate tax rates permanently and individual tax rates temporarily. It permanently removes the individual mandate, a key provision of the Affordable Care Act, which is likely to raise insurance premiums and significantly reduce the number of people with coverage. The highest earners are expected to benefit most from the law, while the lowest earners may actually pay more in taxes once most individual tax provisions expire after 2025.

Ultra partisanship is very possible especially since the Democrats set out to destroy him the day after the election. It's that fact that makes a lot of these Democratic led House investigations look like a partisan vendetta for losing an election. That really makes me wonder. As I stated, if the Democrats hadn't set out to destroy Trump the day after the election, I might believe you. It's the Democrats actions that leads me to my apprehension of their investigations.

The Democrats may be right, they may be wrong. It may be nothing more than political revenge for losing an election or there could be a ton of wrong doing. I don't know and I'm not going to jump on anyone's bad wagon for purely partisan reasons. I'll wait and see, time will tell. But as now, I'm ignoring them, the investigations due to past actions by the democrats.

LOL, stupidity. I'm so old I'm beyond redemption in the political correct society. I still start off my letters Dear Sir and still use he and his for everyone. I agree we have so many real problems in this country that changing the name of a manhole cover isn't going to solve a single one of them. Purely idiotic.

There was a $16 Billion bill passed to help the Farmers affected by the Trade battles.

Do you have a link that says I'm paying more for everything I buy due to the trade wars? When you Google the impact of increased energy prices, the articles seem to disappear completely after 2017.

Trump has been begging the Congress to do something. ANYTHING! The day before he was to meet with the Democrat Socialists to discuss infrastructure, the A-holes scheduled to meet said they wanted to impeach him.

When i was in sales and about to meet with a person in a negotiation, slandering the negotiating partner was not a part of my strategy. Democrat Socialists seems to operate differently.

You might have heard that Trump cannot appropriate funds. Only the Congress can do that. Your issues with the infrastructure are on the do-nothing Congress.

When Trump makes any comment, his OPPONENTS scream, "RACIST!". Read or listen to what he says and you get an entirely different story. Use the most recent uproar about The Squad.

The lying propagandists in the media are lying to you, creating a narrative that has no relation to the real world.

Regarding your cost of living, in the real world, the CPI does not reflect the lies told to you by the people that you seem to respect enough to repeat here.

The bolded sentence actually answers your own question. 'The squad' is fighting exactly for those things. They're fighting for better wages, equal opportunity and greater freedom to pursue happiness, but it's for the minorities and people of the Muslim religion that they're fighting for. Get off your white-privilege high horse and understand that people of color absolutely do not have the same rights as you. No, Jefferson doesn't 'weep', it's Abraham Lincoln that would be ashamed of how deeply our nation is still divided along racial lines. He would weep to see the hatred, racism and inequalities this country still holds nearly 150 years after his assassination. Everything that Lincoln stood for has been crapped on by Trump. Yes, there's equality in this country but only for white people or people that look more like you do. It excludes woman who speak up, it excludes women who curse or wear the hijab. It excludes women that demand they have the same rights as some white dude in a politics forum.

Women, and in particular women of different ethnicity and origins are fighting against the old white establishment in Washington and you don't like it, well, that's too bad for you, this is reality and this is progress.

That entire post is nonsense. You are injecting race and gender into a discussion that has nothing to do with either. The opposition to these four is based upon their IDEAS, not what they look like. There is no way that you don't know that, yet you persist in spreading that particular lie. How come? I suspect it is because you cant argue FOR their ideas directly. Were the 'squad' made up of 4 white male socialist loons from Massachusetts, they would be receiving the exact same criticisms. So stop spreading the liberal lies

You're only fooling yourself when you deny that their appearance influences your judgement.

No, you are lying about it. According to you, if these were 4 socialist radical white males from Mass, I would support them? Is that a joke?

Let's hope they are done with the hate and prejudice and will finally start to work with the president to secure our border, enforce our laws, and make way for law abiding people to immigrate to our country. We need law abiding from all over the world instead of these lawless losers people from just 1 or 2 countries trying to circumvent our immigration policies. Once that crisis has been stopped and people around the world realize that lying and claiming asylum is not how to come to this country we can move on to infrastructure and better trade deals with other countries. Plus what good is a federal minimum wage when you have 10's of millions of illegal working for cash, circumventing our laws, and not paying their fair share of taxes.
