Definitely not. This century will still be a hydrocarbon century, though likely will transition in the second half increasingly to other energy sources. We do not know new technologies we do not yet know.

You mean like Obama asking how Trump was going to bring back jobs? With a magic wand? Well... Trump has, and he is trying to help the coal industry by undoing the reams of regulations the Green Reich instituted to put a bullet into the heart of coal.

Note the dates of the stories. Trump undoing the mess Obama left to kill coal is continually being undone... as the story from 3-weeks ago indicates. Of course... Democrats are hell bent on stopping the effort.

Trump has brought back jobs. Cut taxes and regulations. He has created an environment that is business friendly. Obama looks the mighty Socialist fool so many of us knew he was. Obama had no clue. Was in far above his pay grade as the clip illustrates.

I know what we will find in the next century if life continues as it is now. Dead solar farms and broken down wind generators littering the American countryside.

That's true even if we are fully powered by renewable sources, which will not happen. Obsolescence.

The second half of the century looks much more nuclear, which has not been addressed much in the thread.

A magic wand might have worked better. So far Trump is an utter failure in bring back coal.

Democrats might go for the Harry Reid nuclear option but only if it is forbidden to republicans. Democrats will never unite to support nuclear energy options, unless it is to support Iran's nuclear energy build up.

That's changing with the generation. Those under 30 do not have the same attitude toward nuclear that party leadership does. Nuclear power is extremely green and waste disposal issues are greatly exaggerated. It won't be soon, but there are still eight decades coming.

There is still a coal industry. Trump saved a lot of jobs. That counts as a win.

The fail was when Obama promised to kill the industry. That is not close to happening.

So Obama was successful in killing coal like he promised? Not even Trump can fix the mess Obama made? At least he is trying and that is more than greenie weenie democrats will ever do.

At least he tried and coal miners, their families, states whose economies rely heavily on coal and industries which use coal are all bound to be happy about that.

That's exactly the point. The government should have never been intervening in the first place to destroy coal. That's what the market is all about.

I find it very interesting that there has no push-back on these two graphs which show the real problem for coal mining employment. Of course, it is difficult to look at those graphs and blame it all on Obama.

NB: I earlier posted that coal mining employment peaked in 1910---I was wrong.

In 1920, when coal mining employment peaked, coal mining was done by men with picks and shovels living in mining towns. Today, most mining is done with heavy equipment and few workers. Worse for mining employment is that industries are moving away from coal, which is a bit more expensive.
