Senate Confirms Judge Who Attacked Roe v. Wade, Called Being Transgender 'A Delusion' | HuffPost

WASHINGTON ― The Senate voted Wednesday to confirm Matthew Kacsmaryk to a lifetime federal judgeship despite his record of hostility toward LGBTQ rights and abortion rights.

The Senate voted 52-46 to put Kacsmaryk, 42, onto the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Every Democrat present voted no. Every Republican present but one, Susan Collins (Maine), voted yes.

This is why elections matter. The power hungry GOP, bereft of human decency, are just doing what they've done for decades - trying to turn back the clock to the 1950's.

No - most of the blame for this goes to the Dem establishment that "shouldered out" Bernie in favor of the hildebeast and to the Dems who were angry about it and/or who didn't vote or voted 3rd party.

Again, elections matter!

As the man said, they have consequences.

Only liberals are decent. Is that the message? :lamo

How is that not obvious, given the facts. How cruel, bigoted, inhuman and greedy does the GOP have to be for you to notice? Really.

Do tell. List their acts against humanity then tell me why you haven’t notified the authorities!

Actually no changing the rules of the senate to allow for this has consequences.
that is what the issue is. Reid change the rules and now the shotgun is pointed in the other direction.

although i find this disturbing.

Keisling said in a statement shared with NBC News. “Our country needs fair-minded judges free of irrational prejudices against marginalized people.”

that is not the job of a judge.
a job of a judge is to determine whether something i constitutional or not constitutional.

which is based upon the constitution itself.

Literally yes. Conservative ideology is based on inflicting harm on one's perceived enemies.

Being a bigot isn't a crime.

The senate wipe-out of 2014 continues to matter more than any other factor in USSA politics. That was mcconnell’s 2nd dalliance with putin, after REDMAP 2010.

Okay, this is also the direct result of ex-democratic majority leader Senator Harry Reid's first use of the nuclear option. That also matters. Without Reid's precedence setting use it still would have required 60 votes for cloture. This is a prime example of what happens when the party in power, in this case the Democratic controlled senate strips power and rights away from the minority party.

Without Reid first use of the nuclear option, setting the precedence for a short term political gain the election of Trump wouldn't have mattered at all in the selection of judges. You can be as mad as all get out at Trump and the GOP controlled senate as you want. But the real culprit here, the one to blame is Reid.

Even the current Democratic minority leader Senator Schumer who urged and egged Reid on to use the nuclear option now says that was the biggest mistake the Democrats had made since Schumer had become a senator. How ironic that the party that supposedly believes in minority rights was the party that stripped away the minority party rights in the senate just because they could and had the power to do so.

And yes, elections do have consequence as do the selection of candidates by the two major parties. Let's hope the democrats learned that lesson and come up with a very good one this time around. Candidates do matter.

I'm making a donation to Collins' campaign now. Good for her. It's nice to see a smart Republican left in the Senate.

I'm not trying to influence your decision but she did vote to confirm Kavanaugh . I suspect she voted against Kacsmaryk because her seat is up for reelection in November and she's got a tough election coming up. She's tanking in the polls.

Sara Gideon, Maine's Democratic House Speaker, To Run For Senator Susan Collins' Seat | HuffPost

A Critical Insights poll last month shows her approval rating in Maine has dipped 10 percentage points since her Kavanaugh vote in October and now sits at 41%, with 42% disapproval In the weeks following Kavanaugh’s confirmation, two separate crowdfunding initiatives raised millions of dollars for a potential Democratic challenger to Collins, which should provide whoever wins the primary with a significant financial boost. One of the funds has already pulled in $3.8 million, while the senator’s 2014 challenger spent only $2.4 million over the course of the entire race.

She did vote against the GOP's draconian attempt to repeal the ACA, so that's something, I guess!

I was mad about the Kavanaugh vote.

Texas; right-wing world; who cares.

Yeah, me too. At this point, as lawless as the GOP has become I just feel we really need to take back the Senate and that any Democrat would be better than any GOP'er.

I'm voting for all the Democrats on my 2020 ballot with the exception of my governor. I want to send a message to the GOP. Not all Republicans are stupid and buy into the Trump/McConnell idiocy.

While his choice of wording in some of his statements are rather bizarre I don't see what is causing such outrage over the guy.

Didn't RBG have the same criticism on RvW?

there has been nothing wrong with Kavanaugh he has been an excellent judge so far and as ginsburg pointed out the other day.
all of his clerks are female for the first time. So i don't know what you are mad about.

the man was falsely accused of crimes he didn't commit. we don't hold people accountable for that in this country at least we
didn't use to.

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Let us hope that, Kavanaugh's female clerks won't suffer the same fate as Anita Hill suffered.

I guess you don't know what unfounded allegations are.
it was all made up and the people that did assault ford came forward.

it was their party and no one that dealt with Kavanaugh.

I guess you don't believe in innocent until proven guilty.
Kavanaugh has never assault or raped anyone in his life.

the fact that you still believe these lies is amazing.
see we don't keep people from jobs on baseless
unfounded sexual assault claims.

if he did sexually assault women you would think that
one of his 1000's of female clerks over the past 20 years
would have come forward but nope. they all defended him
and his actions.

PS two of the accusers are up on perjury charges for lying.

PPS not opinion just facts.
