Florida officer guilty of negligence for shooting caretaker

Your views are clear - you're simply arguing with yourself here. :)

My views are clear as is your inability to provide the quote were I said all celebrities, politicians and police officers are bad people. I'm not arguing with you son, I'm bringing to light the inadequacies of your arguments. Care to try and fail again?

Young, Decorated NC Officer Ended Shooting Rampage - Law Officer

Armed with a .40-caliber Glock pistol, he entered the building to confront Robert Stewart, 45, in the hallway. Garner fired his weapon once, hitting Stewart in the chest, even though Garner had already been shot three times in his foot and leg.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deoutyn Neil Gardner - a community resource officer at Columbine High School was the first to arrive, around 11:24 AM. …

From the sidelines, news cameras could easily pick up the sign one student held up desperately pleading for aid for dying Coach William "Dave" Sanders. He had been shot around 11:30 AM and students had been calling 911 repeatedly from that time for help. They were promised by dispatchers that help was on the way. But it wasn't. …

The SWAT team finally reached the critically injured Coach Dave Sanders at around 2:40, over three hours after Sanders was shot. …

"While the world cheered as they watched television images of children escaping unharmed from the school, the two SWAT deputies with Sanders decided to move him closer to an exit route. After waiting for what they estimated to be 20 to 30 minutes, they decided a paramedic was not coming or could not get in, and that they would need to evacuate the wounded teacher themselves or at least move him closer to an exit. …

Before they could move him from the storage room, a Denver paramedic arrived in the room. …

He advised the deputies that there was no pulse and, therefore, nothing more they could do. Dave Sanders had died."

Fear motivated the Columbine rescuers to abandon or ignore the victims while taking extraordinary steps to shield themselves from possible danger. That fear was not exhibited by Justin Garner in Carthage 10 years later, thank God, or many more elderly patients at the rest home would also have been brutally murdered during the delay.

if your job was to work among the dregs of society each day, don't you think that would extract a significant mental toll over time?
one of my former scouts is now a police officer with a severe special needs child, a demanding spouse, and a recent assignment to deploy (again) to the middle east
he's actually looking forward to it in order to get away from what he endures daily, both at home and on the job

Sad but true. I say again, 100+ years of enforcing poor public policy has hurt society at large, and especially the police.

We are fools for not demanding change in policy.

LEAP Law Enforcement Against Prohibition has been trying for 15 years or more, with little success. Those who profit from prohibition greatly defend the status quo.

Indeed they are, at least to the clear-headed; your comments speak for themselves. :) Heal thyself, bra. You first.

It’s no excuse. If you can no longer objectively do the job without abusing your power then you need to find another job. No one has the right to be a police officer. We do have a right not to be abused by the government.

The fact is the people who end up getting abused by the police, guess what? We mortals also work with the dregs of society. We live with them and actually work WITH them every day. We have special needs children. We have demanding spouses. We also get deployed. We also look forward to things to get away.

None of that is a good excuse. It’s definitely not for us mortals. And it damn well shouldn’t be for those who should be held to a higher standard.

in an ideal world, with lots of capable people lining up to work among the dregs of society, your view would prevail

however, in the real world, good people get worn down being in the low trenches, performing the drudge work for society every day
