Orlando Sentinel issues scathing op-ed announcing it won't endorse Donald Trump in 2020 election

President Trump is currently in Orlando readying the official launch of his 2020 campaign. The publication recognized that with more than a year until the election day, some may say it's too early to determine whether or not Trump has earned an endorsement.

However, the paper's editorial board wrote that "the chaos, the division, the schoolyard insults, the self-aggrandizement, the corruption, and especially the lies," over the last two and a half years were enough to decide than any other candidate would be better than Trump.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Florida has historically been a red state, but after the slim margin won by Ron DeSantis, it appears that Florida is turning purple.

Dream on...

Readers react to Orlando Sentinel’s ‘not Donald Trump’ 2020 endorsement

"Reaction is still pouring in from readers. It ranges from plans to cancel subscriptions to statements calling us “crazy” and “un-American.” There are supportive emails and tweets as well."

ETA: From the O/P's source
"In 2016, the publication endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, but said this year that if a Republican candidate like Mitt Romney or John Kasich were to emerge, they would "eagerly give them a look."

Of course! :lamo

Oh well. It's not like they were a driving force or even helped Trump in 2016, so it's a 'meh' story. Trump helped Trump get elected. As he said back in 2016, he doesn't need the guitars, the bands, nor the celebrities. He got himself elected with just the help of the American people. 100,000+ people are going to be close by the Amway Center, while 20,000 will be inside the arena, so who cares (other than the Left) if some media outlet isn't going to endorse over stupid reasons? I say good riddance. Just another reason on why Trump will win next year.

Listen to his speech at his rally tonight. Just keep track of the number of times he talks about policy, plans for infrastructure repair, how he's going to give Flint, Michigan safe drinking water, how to deal with the opioid epidemic, what new health care plan is going to replace the ACA, stuff like that. Then keep track of how many times he rages about immigrants, about fake news, about the wall or about Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren.

My point is, he tailors his rally speeches to suit his audience and they want to hear nothing but bashing of the press, bashing of Joe Biden, bashing of immigrants and bashing of our FBI and intelligence agencies --- 'the deep state' and 'fake news'. Forget about policies, forget about healthcare and infrastructure. He's got to keep the heaving masses satiated with his hatred.

Well I mean, that and a fundamentally broken electoral system that only ever seems to benefit the worst people.

Im shocked that a liberal papers editorial board in a liberal city is not endorsing Trump. Next thing you're gonna tell us is that water is wet.

Btw florida has been a purple state for a very long time. Its a main battleground state because it can swing either way. This is primarly due to 4 or 5 heavily populated districts that lean left. Orlando being one of them.

Indeed. I was surprised by his continued talk about Hillary Clinton despite his inaction in doing anything to bring her to justice based on his allegations. I'll reserve judgement until I see what more of his campaign rallies offer, but the one in Orlando wasn't that much different to what he's been doing throughout his presidency. The thing is it's pretty effective for his base; preaching to the choir doesn't seem to get old for them I suppose. I'm curious to hear what he has to say about new issues versus hearing Clinton bashing, fake news, and himself. I thought he would be talking about his plans for healthcare and some of the other big issues that are important.

His base never gets tired of hearing the same old stuff, it's all they have to cling to and they cling to it ferociously. This is what's going to distinguish him from a democratic candidate. They're going to be talking about issues that are more important to the majority of Americans like global warming, health care, minimum wage, immigration reform, women's rights, prescription drug costs. Hillary Clinton is not even in the running for the things that are important to Americans moving into 2020.

You would think they'd catch on by now how they're being manipulated and their hatred is being exploited by the 'rinse-and-repeat' strategy of 2015.

That "lock her up" hasn't gotten old yet is pretty interesting. I know my first question would be: "umm, well why haven't you locked her up? If she's as crooked as you say she is this should be easy peasy!"

Orlando still has a newspaper?

Errr...I watched the rally and...he touched on all those points, and more.
But keep fooling yourself. Democratic candidates get a whopping couple dozen people at their rallies. Trump's first saw tens of thousands.
Ya...how's that Green New Deal lookin' now?

It will be, once Barr is done with her. Enjoy the election season. I know I will.

And yes, he has 'drained the swamp' to an extent, there's much more draining that needs to be done. The thing is, he drained his own swamp, nobody else's. What a major doofus he is. I'm getting accustomed to the embarrassment he is to our country. It's comforting to hear from people in other parts of the world that don't blame all of us for electing this major imbecile. They know his base represents only 40% of stupid people that live in this country and not the rest of us. So, they're giving us a pass until 2020 anyway.

Really, does he have a plan for those things he 'touched on'? Did he actually say what his plan was to reform immigration, or how he intends to insure gender equality or global warming? What about our allies, how does he plan to reinforce our alliances around the globe? What was his plan for that, I'd love to hear what it is. I know that a democratic candidate like Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar or even Michael Bennet have a plan for each of these and not only do they have it they can spell out immediately in a few sentences precisely what that plan of theirs is and why it would work. Did Trump do that at his rally? All I heard was "lock her up" and "drain the swamp" and "the swamp is fighting back so viciously".

Speaking of the swamp he wants to drain, he owns the swamp. But, he has managed to drain some of the swamp of his own creation such as Tom Price, Scott Pruitt, Roger Ailes, Bill Shine, Ryan Zinke, recently Pat Shanahan and many, many others who have left in disgrace after pilfering vast amounts of taxpayer money.

Then there's another swamp, the ones that Trump nominated for vital administrative posts but were rejected in their Congressional hearings. Even they were too swampy for republicans in Congress to approve.

Andrew Puzder, a fast food executive nominated to Labor Secretary, withdrew his nomination in February 2017 after allegations of wage theft and domestic abuse surfaced.

Matthew Petersen was nominated to be a district court judge, and withdrew his nomination shortly after Senator Kennedy (R-LA) asked him if he had any courtroom experience. He didn’t.

Trump’s nominee for head of the Council on Environmental Quality, Kathleen Hartnett White, withdrew after she plagiarized her answers to the Senate and admitted she did “not have any kind of expertise or even much layman study of the ocean dynamics and the climate change issue.”

Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson has been accused by whistleblowers that worked under him for a hostile work environment, over-prescription of medication, and drinking on the job. Why didn’t you vet the man you nominated to take care of our veterans, Mr. President?

Then there's the lobbyist swamp. Over 350 individuals who’ve worked as lobbyists who currently work in the administration, have worked in it or have been nominated to serve in Trump’s administration. Cumulatively, they’ve represented more than 2,800 companies at one point or another, according to lobbying registration documents. Nearly 200 of them now served or have been nominated to serve in divisions of government that they once lobbied.

You are excused from any intelligent, productive rebuttal, it's not possible for you. (lemme)

I didn't hear "the swamp is fighting back so viciously". Sorry...
I did hear the chant "USA, USA..." several times. And ya know...during the Clinton, Bush and Obama years, that chant was received with a chuckle and a pat on the head. Today? People take it seriously. I also heard "Lock her up!" and "4 more years!" chanted in unison...of over 20,000 people.

As for the swamp...keep your pants on. Its-a-comin'.

And he is still campaigning against Hillary. These folks are still chanting “Lock her up”. If you missed his rally just go to Utube and google his 2016 campaign.

The swamp is here, been here for over 2 years.

Very intelligent comment, must have taken you a few minutes to find the clever gif you overuse.

Don't flatter yourself. I damn near spit my coffee on my screen as soon as I read it.
You ain't that hard to figure out I'm afraid.

Trump raises $24.8 million in less than 24 hours, RNC says - POLITICO

President Donald Trump raked in nearly $25 million in campaign contributions for his re-election effort in less than 24 hours, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee said Wednesday.

“@realDonaldTrump has raised a record breaking $24.8M in less than 24 hours for his re-election,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel wrote on Twitter, hours after the president formally launched his 2020 bid the previous evening with a rally in Orlando, Fla.

“The enthusiasm across the country for this President is unmatched and unlike anything we’ve ever seen! #trump2020 #KeepAmericaGreat,” McDaniel continued.
