Missouri Lawmaker Cites 'Consensual Rapes' as House Passes Abortion Bill

He claims he misspoke, and I'd readily accept that if he clarified what he was trying to say. But in context I can't decide what on earth sort of concept would fit into that discussion and not still be monstrous.

He claims he meant to say "consensual OR rapes" but that doesn't fit the context.

"Consensual Rape?" Really? I have one word for that lawmaker: oxymoron.

If it's consensual, it's not a rape, you dumb****.

But good to see the GOP is back to covering for rapists.
As someone who lives in Missouri, Barry Hovis is an idiot. And by that, I mean I can believe he misspoke and just said something stupid because, again, he's an idiot.

Well, the "moron" part definitely applies.

Dumbasses aren’t exclusively in the GOP.

Yeah, but the lefts dumbasses are just dumbasses, they are far less amorally venal than the rights dumbasses.

And who can forget former Sen. Claire McCaskill's opponent in 2012, Todd Akin, saying that women rarely ended up pregnant in a "legitimate rape?"

This is your GOP today... what happens in a woman’s body is a State matter, rape ends up being acceptable (so much for morals,) a pregnancy from rape ends up being “God’s gift,” the father who committed the rape can end up with rights and means to continue to harm the mother, and any miscarriage is a potential matter for law enforcement.

Ideological lunatics, the lot of them. If this nonsense does not wake up Independents to look to anyone but Republicans nothing will.

Misery is an f'd up state. That's where that Senatorial candidate, years ago talked about "legitimate rape", insinuating that women lie about being attacked.

A certain percentage do. I can think of several scenarios where a woman (or even a man for that matter) would have motive to lie about being raped.

I'm not even going to..

I can't.. I can't...

The GOP has now fell on the sword of turning the southern states into Syria, Qatar, Mexico, and nicuragua.

Pathetic. Truly ****ing pathetic.

These third world **** holes are apparently something trump and the right wing aspire too.

In the #MeToo era, consent is retroactively revocable, dumb****.

No, that's just what rapists tell themselves afterwards.

No, that's just what rapists tell themselves afterwards.

Your statement and retroactively revocable consent are not mutually exclusive. Both are concurrently possible.

If one wants to rape responsibly then one should wear a condom said no one ever.

Some people look to be offended.

How is it that I was a member of a regionally successful band for four years, playing venues all over the Midwest, crowds up to ten thousand people, innumerable girls night after night after night, and at least a half century of relationships, one night stands, friends with benefits and ultimately, two marriages...and yet I've never once been accused of ANYTHING improper, not even sexual assault or harassment, much less rape?
I've been slapped in the face once or twice and had a drink or two thrown in my face a few times, and that's about it.
(And I probably had it/them coming...maybe...)

No knock on the door with some kid standing there saying I'm their Daddy, no STD's, no rape charges.
And yet some lawmaker, who is ostensibly some sort of "role model", feels compelled to make excuses for men who can't control themselves when a woman says "NO"?

Women, especially today, have for the most part figured it out when it comes to dealing with men who don't have proper manners and a proper upbringing. They're not about to take your crap anymore, so you better bring your best or they're not interested. And when you get right down to it, procreation and marriage or not, it is still "the mating game" in most respects, even if it's only for the sheer pleasure of it.
And because it IS the mating game, I don't see any reason why women shouldn't keep their standards up.

It's supposed to make us want to be better men, all except for the guys who count on flying somewhere else to get the cheap seats, or who engage in fantasies where they imagine themselves being in the cheap seats.
Due to the anonymity of this forum, those guys can "be anyone they want to pretend to be"...as long as there are people gullible enough to buy the baloney they're cooking up.

So you're going with the consensual rape thing? Is it because a Republican said it, so it must be true?
