Trump campaign punishes Don McGahn's law firm - POLITICO

'Why in the world would you want to put your enemy on the payroll?' said one adviser close to the White House.

The Trump campaign has hired its own in-house attorney for its 2020 reelection bid — shifting future business away from Jones Day, the law firm, that has represented Trump since his first run for president.

Campaign officials and advisers cast the decision to hire Nathan Groth — a former lawyer for the Republican National Committee and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker — as a money-saving move, supported by the businessman-turned-president who loves to cut costs.

But Trump is changing law firms to punish partner & ex-WH attorney Don McGahan. Petty is as petty does. Like a child on a playground, bullying others.

McGahn? The guy who may have single-handedly saved Trump from facing criminal charges?

The guy who refused to act like all the criminals Trump usually surrounded himself with, many of whom are going to jail for following Trump's directives, some of whom could still drag Trump's children down with them, if not Trump himself?

Of course Trump would want to find some way to punish him.

McGahn resigned as WH attorney after refusing Trumps order to fire AG Jeff Sessions (attempted obstruction).

Of course, at this point, losing Trump's business isn't that big of a deal.

He's a lead weight. Being free of him will attract a different, better clientele than being known as a business which carries his putrid water.

Based on the report, I think Trump should send McGahn some flowers and a thank you card. Punishing him is a message to rest of Trump's staff that if they have to choose between following a Trump order or following the law, they better not side with the law. It was already hard enough for Trump to get qualified people to join his administration. This will make it even tougher.

That's a good post Bob. That's why we let you hang around.

One of the reasons he has a hard time finding good lawyers is that he has a long term habit of not paying his bills.

Well, yeah. If you are going to become his PERSONAL lawyer you shouldn't count on getting paid. The White House lawyers and all official White House employees, however, get paid by Uncle Sam so that won't be a factor for them. But working for someone who is willing to ask you to break the law for him or suffer the consequences is something most law abiding citizens wouldn't tolerate.

I haven't finished the report but am reading it in bite size chunks whenever I get a chance. Anybody who is considering taking a position in the Trump administration needs to read the Mueller report so they know what they are getting into.

Would you retain a law firm that tried to **** you? I wouldn't.

Yeah, they become a target. The anti-Trumpers will come gunning for them. Sometimes, with the full authority of The United States government.

The establishment wants to send a clear message to the next dark horse that thinks he going to step out of the traces.

Typical. Just another enemy for another republican. They don't disappoint in seeking vengeance.

How you drew that conclusion from the facts at hand is anyone’s guess.

Trump drops a law firm? It’s the Never Trumpers at work!

It is really amazing how little you know about the things of which you speak.

I occasionally hold out hope for you, but those ideas are always dashed quickly.

You mad because your life is a dead end street, bro? :lamo

And more celebration from Trumpsters about Trump actually doing what they had aneurysms about when their fantasies told them Obama might possibly do something like what Trump does openly, flagrantly and often.

That is what the Mueller report does for us -- document a pattern of Trump frequently doing what Republicans would have called for impeachment over if Obama had done it even once.

Trump and all who support him are on record as being highly corrupt and having no respect for the rule of law, and basically being utter hypocrites if they ever again hint at impeachment of a leftwinger. Because even with all the precedents Trump is setting which tacitly give the next Democratic president license to practically anything, it is inconceivable to me that any future president would have the disrespect for the law and for the country that Trump has. So no future president, right or left, will come close to committing the offenses Trump has done. Never come close to violating their oath of office the way Trump has. So no future president will ever give any justification for Trumpsters to call for impeachment after the kinds of things Trumpsters are so delighted that Trump has done.

Trumpsters will regularly call for the impeachment of the next Democratic president anyway, but not because of any justification coming from the new president -- just because they are flaming hypocrites who put trolling and flame throwing over the good of the country, just like Trump does.

Or maybe he didn't feel comfortable with other lawyers at McGahan's firm? Avoid conflicts between his current lawyer and the previous one? Nah, just childishness.

"If we had known all it would take to get rid of him was following the law, we would have done it sooner!" ;)
