Trump Railed At Illegal Immigration But Now Owns The Worst Numbers In A Decade | HuffPost

For all you trump fans out there who think he's doing you anything but a disservice - think again!

WASHINGTON ― Three years after promising that he was the only candidate who could stop illegal immigration, President Donald Trump is instead overseeing a record surge of border crossings ― and critics say he has only himself to blame.

“It’s not going well for him, and it hasn’t been going well for a long time,” said Al Cardenas, a former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida who came to this country as a refugee from Cuba. “Things have gotten worse. And it’s on the back of the president.”

Sarah Pierce, an analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, said Trump’s “policies and rhetoric” both are driving Central Americans who have considered coming to the United States to do so sooner rather than later.

“They’re really creating an urgency among migrants to appear at the border as quickly as possible before the next hammer comes down,” she said.

Sorry...but no. It's not Trump's policies driving the surge. It's the opposition from Congress driving the surge.

Migrants are worried that opposition won't last.

Opposition to what, exactly? Opposition to putting people in cages? Thank goodness!

The "opposition" to draconian immigration policies has always existed, my friend. This didn't just "happen" when trump was elected.

Try again!

LOL!!

The US immigration policies are one of the most lenient in the world...and there are people who want to keep it that way. They are in Congress.

Yeah folks like you only want rich White Europeans to come to this country. Your ideology is a disgrace con. When old cons die off, the world will be a better place.

Good job.

When presented with a fact, trot out the broad brush.

Obama built those cages.

You really think that migrants are paying attention to Congress? Seriously Americans can't even ID the speaker of the House. Trumps latest policy of cutting off aid to these countries will spur even more to take the journey here.

The people talking to them are paying attention to Congress...and to Trump.

We've been through this before Mycos. Trump failed here, because he cannot lead nor rally his fellow legislators around him.

Obama managed to get 660 miles of fence built, while Trump is still struggling to do anything more than claim Obama's fence is his.

The proof is in the pudding. He can't figure-out how to get it done.

Glad to see HuffPo is admitting there is a crisis at the border.

There aren't a lot of people that have denied that there is a humanitarian crisis at the border. A lot of people disagree that it is a national emergency.

I believe Trump may even be doing this on purpose, to force a crisis.

In addition, he is doing his best to eliminate and hinder the placement of judges to efficiently adjudicate the migrants. Trump wants to stay in power, and watch for him to continue on the path of more emergency actions to deal with the problem he's causing. He's making self-fulfilling prophecies!

No Just because Trump lied does not make it true.
Well, that sadly infamous picture of the kids in cages, seen around the world, was indeed taken during the Obama administration.

Yes, it was. It was a different policy though not one to be used as punitive like Trumps.
