Black hockey player subjected to racial taunts during Quebec's NAHL game

I’d rather get hit by a linebacker than have to block a shot from Shea Weber... and when it comes to physical hits, those in hockey are more frequent, and at a higher speed.

And hockey players play 82 regular season games, and those in the playoff have a bunch more... football... a weekly thing, and basketball... tall guys running around in shorts. Yeah, they set picks and throw elbows, but you don’t see those guys breaking bones, losing chicklets, and playing with fractures.

I’d love to catch you in open ice with your head up, or down. My guess is they’d be carting your lame, soft ass off the ice.

Not questioning the toughness of play...Rugby is tough...But pointless...Neither sport qualifies as "major league"....But tell us how tough you are......Sure

Rugby pointless? What's the point of baseball? Or hey, how's this for a recipe for a boring sport- 20, maybe 45 seconds of game play followed by two or three minutes spent deciding what to do in the next 20, maybe 45 seconds. Do that three times, kick the ball and do it all again in the other direction. End of the season play a national championship game that makes about half the viewers sleep through 162 of the most expensive commercials on the planet.

To some perhaps...Still Baseball rakes in Billions yearly.....Over 30 Million Tickets sold....Rugby?....Not so much

What is it with all the stories of Racism coming out of Canada recently?

Oh, we're just talking about the USA. Okay, rugby doesn't attract many Americans.
Should though. The Rugby 7's is in Vancouver this weekend. The last tournament was in Las Vegas and the Yanks beat New Zealand for the gold. I think even Americans could get behind 7's if they took a look.
As for hockey, I think it started going downhill when they started changing the game to try to attract Americans. Hockey doesn't need to be in Miami and Dallas and Las Vegas. It was just fine when it was Canada and a handful of northern American cities.

Yeah, right? You'd think Canadians were mere mortal humans or something instead of a nation of Jiminy Crickets sitting on America's shoulder.

Hockey TV ratings in the US are beyond terrible...Outside of their hardcore fans...Most of America doesn't care

And I should care about that, or your opinion...why?

I totally agree.....My comments were poorly written...I didn't mean to slam rugby or it's participants

Well you felt the need reply...So you do care....The incident is probably more about crazed "Hockey Culture" than racism , still the comments are shameful...I've seen and heard worse in Europe at football matches...

No worrys. I was trying to be humourous, but I'm kinda serious about Rugby 7's. If you see it on your TV schedule check it out. Lotta good action, fast-paced and really athletic. There's a good tournament on this weekend in Vancouver that should be available on cable. The Americans seem to have come out of nowhere to be a powerhouse in the 7's version of the game.

I always thought of them as heroes sitting on the shoulders of the Super Hero American shoulder... but to learn that they are so racist?

You don't know the half. Why do you think the New Zealanders did so badly in the Vancouver 7's tournament? Gotta lotta nerve calling yourselves 'all-black' and coming to Canada. Of course we had to make sure they fell on their faces. Got real lucky just finishing fifth and getting safey out of the country.

WE are the all blacks because we always wear all black clothing...

I have never heard of anything like this in the United States. You may have one racist person in the crowd but not a whole bunch like this. Individual racism is way down here in the states. There are some hillbilly far right groups that have formed since Obama started his divisive racism. More hate groups are forming spawned by the hatred from the left. There are maybe a few hundred hardcore Nazis but they are harmless idiots....Why would you support a group that did such vile things and got their butts kicked in WW2.

What happened at this hockey game is disturbing. Canada needs a heavy dose of healing and love right now.

  • Least Racist Countries 2019
  • Does Economic Freedom Foster Tolerance? (2013) -- It seems, among other things, wealthy country citizens are, in general, to some degree racist against immigrants from less wealthy places.
    • Anglo and Latin countries most tolerant.
People in the survey were most likely to embrace a racially diverse neighbor in the United Kingdom and its Anglo former colonies (the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) and in Latin America. The only real exceptions were oil-rich Venezuela, where income inequality sometimes breaks along racial lines, and the Dominican Republic, perhaps because of its adjacency to troubled Haiti. Scandinavian countries also scored high.
    • India and Jordan by far the least tolerant.
In only two of 81 surveyed countries, more than 40% of respondents said they would not want a neighbor of a different race. This included 43.5% of Indians and 51.4% of Jordanian.
    • The Middle East not so tolerant.
Immigration is also a big issue in this region, particularly in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which often absorb economic migrants from poorer neighbors.
    • Wide, interesting variation across Europe.
Immigration and national identity are big, touchy issues in much of Europe, where racial make-ups are changing. Though you might expect the richer, better-educated Western European nations to be more tolerant than those in Eastern Europe, that's not exactly the case. France appeared to be one of the least racially tolerant countries on the continent, with 22.7% saying they didn't want a neighbor of another race. Former Soviet states such as Belarus and Latvia scored as more tolerant than much of Europe. Many in the Balkans, perhaps after years of ethnicity-tinged wars, expressed lower racial tolerance.
    • Pakistan, remarkably tolerant, also an outlier.
Although the country has a number of factors that coincide with racial intolerance -– sectarian violence, its location in the least-tolerant region of the world, low economic and human development indices –- only 6.5% of Pakistanis objected to a neighbor of a different race. This would appear to suggest Pakistanis are more racially tolerant than even the Germans or the Dutch.
  • The UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner Reports
Country visits are undertaken only at the invitation of Governments. ... During such country visits, the Special Rapporteur meets with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local authorities, civil society organisations, academics, as well as communities and individual victims of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

Note: DP members can read the various reports. I'm not detailing them. Canada's last visit was in 2003 and the US' was 1994.

Running joke @ German breweries; how is American beer similar to making love on a boat? They both are ****ing near water!

There is plenty of good American beer. Budweiser is not one of them. It’s like a facsimile of a Pilsner. But my personal favorite beer is Modelo.

Risking derailing the thread; there are some Sam Adams offeringsthat I like Summer Ale/Cherry Wheat are standouts. My “daily swill” is Shock Top recently. The only Mexican offering I like is Pacifico. Went to Ensenada and the ‘clubs’ serve Tecate, really panther urine!
