My Democratic dream team would be Amy Klobuchar with Cory Booker as VP. A down-to-earth Moderate with a Charismatic progressive; win-win!
I've admired Klobuchar for a long time, ever since someone here told me I should take a look at her a couple of years back; I did, and I liked what I saw.
P.S. I'm not a Harris fan, and hope I'm not forced to vote for her, lol.
I was taken by Harris' coming-out. She came across as a blend of Obama-like with a heavy dose of Bernie policy facets. And she was a charmer! But as we see here, we don't know how Harris will wear in the long run.
So yeah, Amy Klobuchar looks pretty good to me. As Dems, I think we're all wrestling with the quandary of whether we need to embrace the new Left and prevail by liberal turnout & enthusiasm, or to tack more center and prevail by securing the largest sector of the country.
I've always believed in compromise, moderation, and broad appeal, as the way forward. But lately, I don't know. It seems like driving enthusiasm from the voices usually not heard on the edges, has been successful. And we saw Hillary's dismal failure, though I believe that was heavily caused by Hillary being a disliked candidate. Biden, even while of similar Dem cloth as HRC, would have likely prevailed.
So with all the anti-Trump sentiments about, I'm thinking a moderate like Klobuchar would take many of the Indie moderates that Trump needs, while (hopefully) still generating good Dem base turnout due to Trump hate. But that's a dangerous gambit, as the House Blue Wave came about by the many new and harder Left candidates that were successful. Of course that Blue Wave tact may turn-off some of the Indie moderates! It's quite the quandary, and the stakes are high!
But Klobuchar has two large & distinct things going for her:
1]
In terms of Electoral College analysis, she would play extremely well in the Midwestern states that Trump must win in order to prevail. These are the same states that while usually Dem, broke for Trump in the same manner of the old Regan Democrats. However, quite a few of these states' Dems seem to have flipped-back, as evidenced by the recent Blue Wave. I believe there's enough Trump disgust in these states to put them in the Dem column this coming election. Amy would pretty much make it a lock, IMO. If there's anything traditional and old-school Midwesterners despise, it's lies and bull****! Which leads me too ...
2]
Amy's pragmatic realism and honest words. My God, she would be the diametric opposite of Trump! The contrast would be startling! It would make for some great debates, I think. And it would be a referendum on whether the country wants to believe Trump's hyperbolic, combative, adversarial, bombastic pie-in-the-sky often delusional rhetoric. Or have we grown tired & weary of it, and want a dose of civil, unifying, pragmatic, factual reality?
Oh, my dream team? It's not formulated at all, but now I'm thinking of Klobuchar on top, with Sherrod Brown as VP. Or even perhaps vis-a-versa (switch their order). That would sew-up the Midwest for sure, and hopefully bring Ohio around too.
