Gov. Gretchen Whitmer calls out comments about her 'curves': 'Way out of line'

She didn't criticize the people who wrote the gross tweets, just the Fox News person who reported on them. Just bashing Fox with anything that comes to hand.

Fox2 Detroit is not Fox News. Fox News is Fox News.

It was a pretty stupid article. Why would anyone care what internet trolls are saying about her outfit and her breasts?

We are talking about sexual-harrasment, cat-calling, that sort of thing. We are not broadly talking about how much worse women have it than men. Unless you were sexually harrassed by your sisters, and have had to deal with being objectified by women all your life, I fail to see how your post truly relates to what's being said.

Also, am I detecting a bit of . . . history, here? That seemed a bit more animated than the usual contemptous sarcasm that people like to throw around at each other up in here.

No history with me when it comes to him. Honestly, I usually just scroll by his posts, kind of like I did this one. You notice I responded to everybody but him?

I don't waste time talking to people who can't be reasoned with, and his obvious anger and venom at women in that post showed me everything I needed to know about him.

Female politicians are infinitely more likely to have their looks commented on than male politicians. It isn’t difficult to see that sexism is the cause of it.

True, but in this case I'm not knocking her curves; just her fashion sense. She could've worn a better fitting dress.

That...kind of makes my point.

Could the reason be because professional men have one thing to wear, a fitted suit and pants? Where a woman has infinitely more choices and more opportunities to wear something to be commented on? Or no.. It has to just be sexist that women might get more comments.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld bit:

“The idea behind the tuxedo is the woman’s point of view that men are all the same; so we might as well dress them that way. That’s why a wedding is like the joining together of a beautiful, glowing bride and some guy. The tuxedo is a wedding safety device, created by women because they know that men are undependable. So in case the groom chickens out, everybody just takes one step over, and she marries the next guy.”

So I guess she should dress in sack cloth because some people aren't smart enough to comment on her policies or time in office, and instead focusing on how she dresses.

****ing typical. Same kind of people blame women who get raped for wearing short skirts.

"Blame the victim" mentality.

Yeah, maybe she should just wear a potato sack. If you have certain proportions it's going to be hard wearing clothes that aren't going to accentuate those areas lest they be so baggy it may as well be a sack. I don't know, these things weird me out because I was brought up to have respect for women so saying the things some folks did in that FOX story makes me sad. To me every woman is someone's mother, sister, wife etc. and so I treat them the same way I'd want the women close to me treated. I bore my daughter with talks about not responding to cat calls and giving time to men who show you respect. I hope it sinks in!

I'm on record many times speaking out about the disgusting nature of SJWs and when people are just whining for sake of whining. I hate fake race cards and crap like that.

However, I gotta call this one out. She is right. She is there as a public official. Her dress was not inappropriate. She looked tasteful and didn't behave badly. She should have been treated as anyone else would have been. Call her out on her remarks or whatever, but focusing on her body and acting like she asked for it by wearing a dress is just disgusting.

Makes it harder to criticize those who throw these sexist and racist terms around like it's a real argument when you MAKE it a real argument.

I hope this dies off soon and she can decide how she wants to deal with the local media. I think she should drop it for sake of keeping things going, but she has a right to be bothered and maybe strike back.

This chick is pissed because her local Fox News channel ran a story CRITICAL of people making social comments about her appearance? That sounds like your typical idiot leftist shrieking FOX NEWS!!! FOX NEWS!!!!

And speaking of the ****heads that would make negative comments about her appearance...thank goodness there are no ****ing retards that would make negative comments about the physical appearance of the current president. Right?

I don't find it sexist, and fully believe that if a male governor with a large private area wore really tight pants showing off his package, it too would have been just as hot a topic of conversation.

They have found that when hot woman reporters provide news, men are less likely to pay attention to the news and more to the girl. Nothing different here.

That's sexist.

She didn't criticize the people who wrote the gross tweets, just the Fox News person who reported on them. Just bashing Fox with anything that comes to hand.

That's sexist.

I'll be adding her to my whack rolodex. Thanks!

That's incel.

Great start, guys.

That is correct.

I'm sure it will sink in! :)

Everyone knows commenting on a politician's appearance is out of line.*

*unless they're conservative, especially conservative men, in which case commenting on their appearances is encouraged. See: the approximate 56.4 billion articles, posts, comments, and Tweets on president Trump's appearance.

If you think this phenomenon applies equally to men and women, you’re clearly not actually a woman.

I don’t. Republicans are far more likely to engage in this behavior.

The honorable governor should be flattered that anyone even gives her the time of the day.

The Honorable Governor was delivering the important State of the State address. Why would she not be given the time of the day?

your husband has apparently commented on her to you. Possibly even online if he is online. Most guys are pigs. Many women are too, they just don't get flak about commenting on guys bodys. I've certainly heard many comments from girls I've hung out with and would be surprised if you hadn't when in a group of your female friends.

Do you understand the difference between private conversation and public comment?
