Negotiators reach deal ‘in principle’ to avert shutdown

    UPDATE

Democratic and Republican negotiators have reached "an agreement in principle" on a spending bill that would avert a government shutdown.

"We reached an agreement in principle between us on all the homeland security and the other six bills," said Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.).

Alright - not a lot to work with in terms of details, but the news has been flying across the net & cable. So, I thought I'd post something to share the good news!

And for reference: It's 9:03 EST, and the news broke around 25 minutes ago, as can be seen by the 8:40 EST timestamp on the Political update.

    Predictions, anyone?

I'll believe it when it get's passed by Congress and signed by Trump. Until then....

So, now that a bipartisan agreement has been reached in Congress, the next step is to send it to the Oval Office.
If we get subjected to another "Coulter Veto" once again, this once again becomes Trump's tar baby.

Congress has agreed to not allow the government to be shut down, the ball is now in Donald Trump's corner.

My gut says it will get done. Neither party has the stomach for another shutdown, particularly the Repubs. I suspect McConnel will do anything to punt, and wash his hands.

They better have something for Trump to sign before Klan Koulter sees it.

The agreement "in principle" was reached to end the last partial shutdown by passing a three week CR. My prediction is that another "brief" CR will be passed so that and agreement "in detail" can be passed by the House and Senate.

Trump cannot veto it. It will be his political demise.

As I've been saying from the day he reopened the government three weeks ago, if he gets a bill he will sign it and either:

    1] Claim victory

    or,

    2] Declare an emergency

Recently he's apparently been looking at pilfering funds from other departments, so he may try and sneak that in there - too.

It ain't over til' it's over, Mr Chomsky.

Trump still has to sign on and if he doesn't, then things could get nasty inside the Republican party if overriding him becomes their only option to stop the madness.

I think Trump has been watching news reports on the fact that he appears to be caving, and that's why seems to have (once again) changed his mood towards digging his feet in on his demands, so don't put it past him to not pull the exact same stunt he did the last time - he doesn't learn, after all.

OTOH, he could just take the deal and declare he got his wall, which is what I lean towards at this point.

    Neither scenario will surprise me.

Interesting supposition, and it's possible. But I really think Congress - both parties - want to put this to bed and be done with Trump.
