Negotiators reach deal ‘in principle’ to avert shutdown

She failed on her promise to NOT fund the wall. No different then you libs said Trump caved when he opened up the government. It sure seems to me that Trump got something done that no president or congress person in decades was able to do. Get a package that covers all the needs of border security. Now Trump has a big package for border security that was never done before him. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I see it she caved on her promise to not fund the wall. She said no funding for the wall, now she'll approve funding the wall. That is a cave if I ever saw one. We can call her a liar and that you can't believe a word she says. As for winners vs losers, Trump won for the country and he is not done yet, not by a long shot. For once a president took on border security in a real way and look at the total package. That package came about only because of Trump.

As I'm sure you know there are all kinds of ways to get money in the government.

Have it your way. Just know that Trump lost 10-15% of the funding he could have gotten pre-shutdown, so I hope it was worth it to you in order to "catch" Pelosi in a "lie."

Obviously Trump is overjoyed. That's why he's been tweeting nonstop about it since the announcement of his monumental policy victory.

When you define "compete" as being willing to have four or five adults (plus their kids) sharing a rented 3 BR, 2 BA (doublewide mobile/modular) home then you will see my point. Your anecdote points out that trying to live the "American dream" is all but impossible without two full-time incomes (of at least $16/hour) per household. Trying to buy a home, much less have added money for hobbies, in your neighborhood with an annual household income of under $40K (about what an average painter makes) is not likely to happen.

I understand that and agree. I was a good bit more ignorant of the costs of scale involved, but I did give the neighbor a chance to counter, and he cut 5%. I hated that situation, since even at that point I kind of liked the guy. I was hiring a handyman with helpers as opposed to a pro and some helpers, that much was clear. I worried a bit about how it would end up, but it was fine.

We used the same guy for other stuff, and years later we had him remodel our entire master bedroom / bath. He did that well, though he realized he had bitten off more than he should have there. Too much customization, I think.

Since you do handyman work I'll see if I can dig up pics of that bed / bath. He put a hell of a lot of work into that job.

From what I see, it looks like the same historical funding as usual, no different than last year, or under Obama or Bush - with nothing new.

No. It's very much part of the issue.

In his first term, with a united majority in congress, Trump asked for nothing for a wall. Nor again in the second year. Now, he has lost his majority in the house, which till recently he seemed to ignore.
Covered that long ago. Trump wanted to get wall funding in first year but some how Paul Ryan talked him out of including it in proposal. The second year Ryan had announced his retirement and had no leverage to get the money included.

But, since Kelly Ann Conway carved him a new one it has been $5.7 billion or nothing. It was $ 5 billion before that. A year ago it was one billion.
IN what documents and legislation?

So what? The word "wall" had taken on such poisonous connotations using it was foolish. So what?

So the question arises, exactly what is he building, out of what and where? For two years it has been ignored, not even any surveying, soil tests, drawings or a report on the conditions. HE has no idea whether they are drilling into rock or digging in sand.
There's been studies up the ying yang. Remember we've already built sections of the barriers.

The one billion $ figure, the lack of any research clearly paint this for exactly what it is.....an invented issue to drive his little brown shirts into a frenzy.
LOL, and that opinion is in no way slanted due to your animosity towards Trump, right?

Exactly. All he does is speak in grand generalities to his followers, but he never submitted a detailed plan or specific itemized budget concerning what it is he wants to build, nor detailed exactly where he wants to build it, nor has he even done any feasibility studies!

It's not my way, I'm just the messenger, Pelosi caved.

My understanding is he will be hitting the Blue State's emergency funds, particularly California's.

Though I could see his also hitting the military funds might cause some Red State troubles.
How much is that? I don't see how it could be anywhere close to enough to build much of anything

She meant there'll never be the many ten's of billions you'd need to make the wall. With a billion you might be able to get a couple of miles. I find it sad but hilarious that you guys are trying to find a win in this.
What I read is that the language in the bill allows for the building of barriers but they must be of a type that has already been built in the area.

IOW, not the Big Beautiful Wall trump has been pushing for

Wait till they find out the compromise deal is less for him than the deal he shut down over AND, they get more - a limit on the beds in a facility.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and Trump has best at it.

The die-hards will never figure it out; they'll be placated by his claiming he'll get the money other ways.

Alright - not a lot to work with in terms of details, but the news has been flying across the net & cable. So, I thought I'd post something to share the good news!

And for reference: It's 9:03 EST, and the news broke around 25 minutes ago, as can be seen by the 8:40 EST timestamp on the Political update.

Predictions, anyone?

I predict Trump will sign it if the agreement gives him the funding for the wall he has promised the American people he will make sure gets built. And people wonder why Congress has never before allowed conservative Americans to see good things getting done. Trump has found a way to put a stop to that stonewalling foolishness from the leftist commies.

That sounds like Pelosi, I have to read it to find out what's in it. You libs talk trash about Trump and your leaders are worse than he ever was. Obama was a chronic liar, hated Jews, he was racist, his RED LINE was a total embarrassment to this country. Christ I could fill pages of Obama's failures. And you speak about Trump not laying out this or that, and if asked Pelosi what was in Obamacare she would say I've not read it yet. Give me a break. I notice you never want to talk about policy, you libs go around and nip at peoples pant legs to get attention. But when it comes to policy you run and hide.

Words.

Words, and more words and more words without even so much as a quote or a reference.

I seriously doubt you actually know any of the **** you have posted. Further, you are speaking for the most dishonest president, and most dishonest group of Americans known to mankind,

As say again and again and again, you want to question what I say come armed with reality and some actual proof.

There are consequences for lying all the time and this post is as much bull**** as "Mexico will pay for it"

It interests me to no end that Trump NEVER cited ANY justification for a wall three years ago, it has only come up now that he realizes he HAS to have the wall or Kelly-Ann Conway will be angry with him.

Two years the bastards had FULL control of both houses and NEVER saw fit to address a problem of "national security" until now is either bull**** or Trump and his cronies are the most incompetent assholes to ever be in government; they should be impeached for NOT addressing this threat to NATIONAL SECURITY then.

If its a real emergency then he is at fault for allowing it to grow and fester under his watch. Incompetent baby!

Runs like a hostage negotiation really doesn't it? See what I did last time to those 80,000 families? I can do it again. Nice country you got here, wouldn't want to see anything happen to it...why don't you just give me the 5 billion for my wall?
And that is why Pelosi gave him less after the shutdown, than before! ;)

Except that there is a huge question whether a president can divert funds that congress earmarked for another purpose. Trump is acting like he can, no problem, but a piece in the Guardian by an American guest writer suggests Trump will have a better chance at the national emergency claim, so I think Baby Huey is playing games again, misdirection, sleight of hand...

My advice (it's free - you get what you paid for):

Don't hire your neighbors for construction and other jobs. The reason? If you have a problem with your contractor, you lose a contractor. If you have a problem with your neighbor, you lose your neighbor. Don't mix business with pleasure.

I wonder how many Trumpkins are getting tired of winning?

Oh, I didn't say Trump would be successful in finding the money. I just said he'd placate his followers by telling them he would!

I don't think his followers, especially Kelly-Ann will be at all placated by 'trying'..for the Trumpheads there will have to be a real wall or else

Emergency? Are you aware illegal border crossings are currently less than 25% of their historical level of two decades ago?

Surely you mean Ann Coulter and not Kellyanne Conway?

No, the RW media heads will not. But I believe many hardcore Trumpers will. Check out Brietbart's comment areas to get a pulse on this. Quite a few are buying what Trump's selling, convincing each other Trump is finding the money as we speak!

Actually I thought it was lower than that.

A majority estimated at over 60% come in by visa and overstay. Of the rest, most come through a crossing with faked ID's. The 100's of laborers Trump hired to build his golf courses all flew in from Guatemala - a certain village that was only supply him with lost of cheap labor.

I have said since the late 1060's that the US does NOT want a solution to illegals. Two reasons, one they would lose a 'wedge issue' separating them from the other guy and 2, because the economy of the US demands it. It has been buoyed by cheap labor for over a century, if the influx suddenly stopped, America's economy would collapse.

We have no walls. Anyone claiming asylum hears "Welcome to Canada, line up over there for free clothing and food, a housing representative will be with you soon." We have more legal aliens per capita than US and almost no illegals, and it isn't because there aren't any jobs. Trump Tower in Vancouver was built with temporary foreign labor, where an employer documents a shortage, is then allowed to import people.

The US has the very same system, only too many employers want to make a few cents more per hour so they hire illegals. Stop the hiring, the problem ends.

No argument from me.

It was an awkward situation we kind of blindly walked into, and in the end I'm kind of glad I had a logical way to opt out of using his services.

The talking heads - Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh - have blasted the compromise.
